Exceptional quality manor with private pool in the Dordogne near MONPAZIE

Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016
Spacious,comfortable & peaceful. Sleeps 9 + 2 cots

The manor is set in 100 peaceful acres at the end of a long avenue, but only 1.5 km from Monpazier, considered to be the best preserved bastide village.

Light and spacious double aspect reception rooms lead onto terraces and a delightful garden with wonderful views. Internally the rooms have been tastefully decorated with exposed stone walls and flagstone floors downstairs, wooden floors and high ceilings upstairs and feature fireplaces. All are comfortably furnished. Satellite TV, DVD & stereo are provided and WIFI is also available. A grand piano is available by special arrangement.

There are 4 large en suite bedrooms. They all have beautiful views and are light and airy.

Outside, the manor garden offers space and furniture for dining and relaxing or for playing games. The large private swimming pool is in a secure garden next to the house with a decking area, sun loungers and umbrellas. The pool is heated from mid-June to mid-September.

Guests are welcome to stroll through the meadows. The property is suitable for extended families or groups of friends and is available for shorter breaks outside of the main holidays.

Domaine des Faures: 1673 is the date in the stone above the entrance while one section is known to be even older. The property was once a very important domaine with links to Chateau Biron and is steeped in history. Such is the very special ambiance of the place, that previous residents from the 1930's and 1940's have returned to go down memory lane. The estate was once a bastide farm with some of the stone walls still standing and others still waiting repair. A secret room in the attic hid soldiers and refugees during the last war. The very special quality of Les Faures needs to be experienced and past guests have all commented on how restorative and enjoyable their holiday has been. Out of the main holiday season the owners will organise specialist tours and bookings are at present being taken for the spring Chateaux, Gardens & Cuisine tour.

Location: Les Faures is ideally situated for visiting the bustling markets, wandering through picturesque villages and enjoying the tourist attractions of the Dordogne. Just 35 min from Bergerac airport it is 1.5 km from Monpazier the famous bastide village with its restaurants, shops and bank. Monpazier can be seen from the rear terrace and Chateau Biron can be seen from the top field. Sarlat, with its history and St. Emilion, with its wines are equidistant with the Dordogne river and valley being not far away. Villereal, Belves and Beaumont are close with Cahors being not too far away.

Activities: The Dordogne region excels in offering a variety of activities and the owners offer different tours out of the main holiday season.Bookings are at present being taken for the spring 2012 Chateaux, Garden & Cuisine tour. Cyclists and walkers enjoy the quiet roads near Les Faures while canoeists love messing about on the river. Painters and photographers relish the landscape and opportunities the architecture provides. Historians love exploring the chateaux such as Chateau Losse, Fenelon & Lanquais to name but three. There are also the world famous caves at Lascaux with the superb paintings and museum. `Designers revel in the antique and flea markets. The area is also famed for its food and wine and is a gourmands delight. The owners will organise wine courses & cooking courses for those who wish. Garden lovers can visit both the large and famous such as Marquessac & D'Eringnac and more secret and private such as Sardy &

Cadiot.

Lovely, comfortable country house

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week in this very comfortable house. It is in a lovely country setting. There was more than enough room for the 7 of us to spread out. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable and the kitchen terrific. We ended up eating all our meals in the kitchen because it was large and cozy at the same time. The grounds were charming with several comfortable areas to sit outside. Unfortunately we were too late in the season to enjoy either the pool or the outside eating areas. The entire property is very private but close enough to Monpazier so that we could get fresh croissants from the bakery every morning. Also this is a good location to visit much of Dordogne. The owner was very helpful getting us settled in and making sure that we had everything we needed. He lives on the property and so was available much of the time. We all were sorry to leave and hope we can go back again. I would highly.recommend this house

Delightful country house

  • 5 of 5

This house was extremely comfortable in a lovely setting in the country outside Monpazier.. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us to spread out. The house was well equipped with a large kitchen where we ate our meals, despite a lovely dining room. The owner was very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. The four bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We were close enough to Monpazier to enjoy fresh croissants from the .bakery every morning. The outside grounds were lovely and there were several great sitting areas. I would love to return to this house again and would highly recommend it to friends and relatives.

Beautiful house, great location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful week staying at Domaine des Faures. We (2 kids) and our friends (2 kids) all agreed that we could not have asked for more from the house, the grounds or Ray and Jacinta.

The house itself is beautiful and has been really thoughtfully fitted out to a high standard. The layout was perfect for 2 families - one family took the 2 rooms on one side of the house and the other family took the 2 on the other side. All the bedrooms had on-suite bathrooms which was brilliant for the kids. The weather was good while we were staying but if you were unlucky with the weather, there is plenty of living space downstairs that is divided up in a way that means you're not all living on top of each other.

The pool was lovely. The steps down into it were great for the kids getting in and out independently. It felt really secure so we didn't worry about the kids roaming around the garden.

We had a lovely, relaxing week and Ray and Jacinta were so helpful before and during our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

A beautiful property - highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a fantastic week at Domaine des Faures and have nothing but good things to say about the house and its owners, Ray and Jacinta. We are a family of 5 (children ages 8, 5 and 2) and rented it as self-catering property.

During the summer months, Ray and Jacinta rent out the whole of the main house and live in another building on the grounds, making themselves available as needed. We found that they struck exactly the right balance of being around to hand over keys and answer questions but were not at all "in the way." They were a great source of local knowledge and made the effort to help us discover the best ways to enjoy the area with small children. It was a pleasure meeting them.

The house itself is absolutely gorgeous, clean, beautifully decorated and spacious, and we weren't lacking for anything we needed during a week's holiday. Ray even came by mid-week with extra outdoor toys for the kids and gave them a ride on the lawn mower, which they loved! The pool is lovely (it's only a shame the weather didn't cooperate for us), the grounds are picturesque and peaceful, and it's an easy drive to Monpazier, which we did in the mornings for bread at the bakery.

In terms of the area - there is plenty to visit and do. We enjoyed the market in Issigeac, the caves at Pech Merle (quite a long drive away), horse riding at Bride du Cazal (make sure to call and book ahead of time) and visiting Chateau Biron. Monpazier is, of course, absolutely lovely. Nearby Villereal has a good-sized supermarket and an unassuming but VERY good pizza restaurant - perfect for tired and hungry kids!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and area.
