This historic house is in the medieval village of Roquebrune, situated in the bay of Monaco on the Mediterranean, Roquebrune is dominated by the ruins of a 10th century castle, now partly restored, and at its entrance is the house where the Guardian of the castle once lived. One of the oldest houses in the village, it has now been restored and renovated by its artist owners, retaining its medieval charm. The Guardian House is available for your holiday. The air-conditioned house can accommodate a couple or a family with young children. On 3 floors it has 2 bedrooms, one with WC, fully equipped eat-in kitchen with large fridge/freezer and dishwasher, fully furnished lounge with digital TV and DVD, large bathroom with bath/shower and WC, laundry with dryer - plus views of the castle to the sea. The house is on a small piazza with only 2 other houses, and a table and chairs are provided for you to dine in the evening al fresco in your almost private courtyard.

While Roquebrune provides lots of opportunities to explore a medieval village, with its winding streets and quaint cul de sacs, it also boasts a 1000 year old olive tree, magnificent views of sea and/or mountains at every turn, and excellent restaurants. If you are prepared for plenty of steps, you can walk to the beach at Roquebrune or Golfe Bleu, down into neighbouring Menton with its wonderful gardens, typical Provencal shops and lots of restaurants, to the top of Mont Gros or the medieval village of Gorbio - or drive down to the beach and meander around 'the Cap' where you can admire the fabulous villas which line the path, and perhaps visit the ancient olive orchard or the quaint little zoo. These spots are also accessible by public transport.

Just beyond Menton is Italy, with its vibrant markets in Ventimiglia and San Remo, excellent restaurants, museums and Roman ruins, and the 'lost' state of Seborga. Villages dotted on the hillsides provide hours of interesting meandering. Alternately, 5 min away is Monaco - accessible by bus or car and offering all sorts of activities. Best known for its casino and exclusive shopping, it also has excellent museums, theatre and concerts, cinema, sporting facilities, gardens, zoo, restaurants and night clubs. Have coffee on the terrace of the Cafe de Paris in Casino Square.

Other places of interest for fascinating day trips include historic Eze, cosmopolitan Nice and its well known Promenade Anglais, Grasse for its famous perfumeries, and St Paul de Vence for its interesting art galleries and shops. Laghet, le Trophée de Alpes and the Tete de Chien at La Turbie are more local treats.

There are many scenic drives and always good food to be found in the many restaurants and auberges en route.

For those interested in mountain pursuits, this area is perfect. Just 20 min away is Sospel, at the southern end of the Mercantour National Park. The drive through the park to Tende travels through stunning scenery and amazing geological formations, while passing the fascinating villages of La Brigge, Saorge and Briel-sur Roya.

Of course in glorious Riviera weather you can always just relax... enjoy the many cafes and beaches, parks and gardens for which the area is renown.

Roquebrune vieux village is a medieval perched village (village perché) dominated by a 10th century castle, overlooking the bay of Monaco. The village is framed by the foothills of the Alpes Maritimes and the Mediterranean, with views out to Corsica on a clear day. Part of the commune of Roquebrune Cap Martin, the vieux village has retained its medieval charm, with traffic -free narrow lanes and alleys, many little more than tunnels through the rock, all leading to the castle. There is free car parking just a short walk from the property, and the village can be accessed by public transport from Monaco and Menton. Roquebrune village is situated on the famous Grande Corniche, just minutes away from the beaches, shops, casinos and facilities of Monaco and Menton and La Turbie's Roman ruins. A 10 min drive along the waterfront will bring you to Italy while a 20 min drive takes you into the Alpine national park. The cosmopolitan city of Nice is just a €1 bus ride away.

A deposit of 50% is required to confirm your booking, with the balance to be paid one month before your holiday.
