Grand Galician Villa with private pool.

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
For a slice of real Spanish life.

Voted a top 50 European Rental Villa by the Sunday Times Travel section.

This outstanding old stone house renovation seamlessly mixes original stone wall features with a contemporary living space. Its outstanding feature is its enormous atrium living/dining/kitchen area with massive open fireplace and bar area. It also has four double bedrooms, a huge main bathroom, an upstairs shower room and downstairs w-c as well as a mezzanine space and games room with classic bar 'pool' table.

It's situated in the tiny village of Roo in the coastal area of Ria de Muros y Noia. The Ria winds its way inland for 40km, harbouring pristine white sandy beaches occupied only by the locals before and after siestas. The villa is blessed with fantastic countryside views and is a five minute drive to the local beach. It has a huge garden space, which has three levels; a BBQ area, a private 10m x 5m pool and a 'games' area for boules and the like. The night lighting in the garden completes the magical appearance of this wonderful villa.

About the Owner

Originally from The South East of England - we moved to Galicia in 2005 in search of an affordable renovation project - Maria had family here and at the time there were plenty of opportunities - great old stone houses that had fallen in to disrepair. The original idea was to renovate and sell and return to the UK - but I fell in love with the Ría de Muros y Noia - a spectacular and unique coastal estuary lined with incredible white-sandy beaches and we are still here! We now spend our time renovating properties for other people.

Dear Rupert & Maria

Thank you for all your hard work and hospitality in putting together this beautiful house. We enjoyed it, the rain and the shine! And touristing around Santiago. We loved the beach at Carnota, hiking in the woods, the market at Noia, the warm neighbours, walking to the village for a glass of wine or groceries, eating peppers in Padron, driving to Portugal for a day, visiting local cathedrals and being welcomed in the church at the end of the day to hear choir practise – beautiful.

A Galician wonder

  • 5 of 5

As I mounted the grass steps and rounded the corner towards the entrance my heart burst with delight at the magical scene that greeted...lush vegetation framing twin spires of a neighbouring church in a singular manner that was at once disorientating ( seeming so South American) and wondrous...and so it began, a five day experience of a fascinating house and garden nestled in a curious village on real deal strip of Galicia that just kept giving...the dawn chorus, fulsome babble of nearby river (although not quite what it seems on inspection!) gorgeous beaches at Carnota, fantastic dining at Muros...house is great especially for hide and seek!! Definitely recommend it

Beautiful house; stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Casa Piloto. It was a very easy and comfortable place for all 7 of us to be together but also to have space to be apart at times. The pool provided us with hours of pleasure each day and our three year old grandson learned many new water skills! The location and views are stunning and GoGalicia's excellent guide to the region was a brilliant resource. We would wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful 'home from home' to families or groups of friends. Thank you Rupert and Maria!

Wonderful restoration

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time, the area is as lovely as the house and its view. We have rented many villas and this is truthfully one of the most beautiful and well restored.

Because the immediate surroundings are so nice, we spent most of the time there, going for long walks in the woods, which are well worth exploring. The swimming pool and pool table were well used, so was the boules green (bumpy but fun!)

Our stay at Casa Piloto

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in Casa Piloto. The interior is fantastic and castle-like - full of atmosphere, while being very comfortable and spacious. All the rooms are beautifully furnished, with a real attention to detail, and the large downstairs bathroom feels particularly oppulent. Our children made very good use of the lovely swimming pool and the pool table. There are some very attractive beaches within about half an hour's drive from the house; our favourite was probably Carnota beach because of the wonderful lagoon. Noia (the nearest town) is definitely worth visiting, especially if you are there for the mediaeval fair, and has some good restaurants, a market and a nice children's playground in the centre. We often went in to Noia for dinner, when we weren't eating at the local, very good pizzeria or having a barbecue. We would also recommend a trip or two to Santiago to savour the architecture and the atmosphere, and a visit to the fishing port of Muros. More locally, the fiesta at Outes was a lot of fun, with fairground rides and dancing in the evening, and delicious sardines served in the park after the St Christopher's Day parade. Overall, we really liked both the house and the area and found everyone friendly and welcoming. I´m sure we´ll be recommending this area and this house to our friends.

fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Like everyone else in the book to date, we had a great time in Casa Piloto. Pool seems to have been a theme for us – afternoons in the fantastic swimming pool and early evening on the pool table with intense family battles! Did manage to drag teenage daughter out of the house on some occasions

Many great beaches within easy driving distance and lots of lovely restaurants around, one and shop within walking distance.

Huge thanks to Rupert and Maria who provided much help and information without ever intruding - they have done a fabulous job with the house which achieves a perfect balance between luxury and comfort.

Location

From the Owner

Casa Piloto was left unused for 30 years after a house fire - our dog actually found the property - it was completely overgrown but still, despite the neglect, its stonewalls protected its structure. It had wonderful potential and enormous spaces to work with combined with beautiful valley views and easy access to the Ría. It became a real labour of love!

This renovated Grand old stone Villa sits in the forests beside the amazing Ria de Muros and Noia. Just 3kms from the pristine, white sandy beaches of the Ria. The two small towns of Noia and Muros are nearby for evening strolls, meals and fiestas. The historic city of Santiago de Compostela is just a 30minute drive away. Mountain hiking, swimming, horse riding, go-karting, tennis and golfing activities are all within an easy drive from the villa.

But, its own private pool, BBQ area, private boules area and stunning views interrupted only by the sounds of the river and sightings of eagles may well persuade you to stay at the villa for the duration of your stay!

Facilities

From the Owner

Location, location, location! The Rìa de Muros y Noia remains one of the few undeveloped regions in Spain - its original, authentic and life goes on here as it has for generations. The proximity of Casa Piloto to the beaches and the stunning forest and mountain scenery set it apart and give it a unique serenity, it's a place to breath deeply and enjoy nature at its best, a place to unwind and get back in tune with yourself.
