Overview

About the property

Letter Box Cottage is a 'chocolate box' Grade II listed thatched retreat for all seasons. Curl up in front of the fire in the living room and in summer leave the front door open and look out on to the cottage garden or wander out to the private patio with its contemporary summer house and private seating area to relax for an hour or two.

From Letter Box Cottage it is easy to access both Cotswolds (Broadway, Burford, Bibury, The Slaughters, Stow-on-the-Wold and Cheltenham) as well as Shakespeare country (Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Kenilworth). The National Trust's Hidcote Manor Garden is a short walk across the fields.

The cottage has a beamed living room with open fire, beamed dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Bedroom 1 with a double bed and en-suite shower room, wash hand basin and toilet. Bedroom 2 with two single beds and a family bathroom with bath, wash hand basin and toilet.

About Julia

We live on a family farm half a mile away from Letter Box Cottage and the farm has been in the family since 1919 so as you can imagine we know quite alot about the area by now! Letter Box Cottage was bought for when we hang up our wellies but that has not happened yet ..... so enjoy it as we both do.

Julia purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Julia chose Mickleton

When I saw the cottage was for sale I just fell in love with it. The thatched roof with the door in the middle and windows either side just looked as if a child would draw this type of house. The Victorian letter box that is inset into the wall gave it its name. It needed very sympathetic renovation and has retained all the original features whilst having all the creature comforts.

What makes this cottage unique

Charming cottage garden, beams in most rooms, open fire and quirky fire seat and large inglenook.

Fabulous stay at Letterbox Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A very enjoyable stay at letterbox cottage. Great location close to all the main attractions - Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden and the slaughters. Very picturesque cottage with a very comfy bed! Would certainly recommend to friends

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the property. Everything was very clean, appliances worked well, beds were comfortable, and we appreciated the rustic charm of the lovely cottage! Julia was easy to reach and communicate with. Definitely recommend!

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every aspect of the cottage and the location. Nice touch with the welcome package and the open fire was so cosy. If I had to make one slight complaint, the double bed is too near the window, when getting up in limited light, I cracked my head twice on the low slanting ceiling !

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage and fantastic location. Clean and everything worked.

The only observation is teh folder of information is a collection of manufacturers instructions rather than 'get you going' simple specific notes, the lever arch folder is in poor condition and irritatingly kept falling apart! The local interest leaflets were simply left in a tray - it would have been good to have some bespoke 'top tips' on the locale. This is the only negative/constructive comment I have other than they built houses smaller years ago and tall people need to remember to duck down a lot! In summary a great place to stay and didn't disappoint!

Idyllic cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

Spent three nights here at red letter box cottage and fell in love with it as soon as we arrived.

Made the most of the open log fire every night which was already stacked with wood ready to go 😁

Perfect setting and location with lots of nice walks and villages close by. Really enjoyed the Ebrington arms a mile up the road with nice food and local ales.

Had a few visits from a friendly local cat.

Have no complaints at all and will definitely be back 😁

Thank you

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed Letter Box Cottage and the North Cotswolds. Only sorry our paths kept crossing and I didn’t meet you and Amanda in person, however there is always a next time. Thank you.

Lovely quiet cottage

  • 5 of 5

3 if us stayed here to have a getaway at New Year and we couldn’t have found a better place if we tried . Plenty to do during the day and a cosy lounge with open fire to come back to in the evenings . It was a shame we couldn’t have stayed longer.

Hidcote Boyce is a hamlet 3 miles from Chipping Campden known as the 'prettiest High Street in the Cotswolds'. Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon are a short drive away. Warwick Castle, Burford Wildlife Park and Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park are great days out for children. Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe and nearby Hales Abbey are recommended. Blenheim Palace in Woodstock and Woodstock itself makes for an interesting day out. This area is famous for the Arts and Crafts movement as well as delightful gardens. Each year in June Skuttlebrook Wake is held in Chipping Campden and there are also various farmers markets and events throughout the year.
