Guestbook comments from the owner

Seventeen of us arrived at Killaghy Castle for a two week stay. Maria was there to welcome us giving us the history of the castle and providing us with other points of interest is the area. She gave us her phone number to contact her anytime if we needed anything re bus hire, restaurants etc. This was very reassuring for us as we had little local knowledge of the area. The accommodation was wonderful and beyond our expectations. We had central heating which was at our control and an open fire in the living room. The castle has a great culinary kitchen and dining room which we gathered in everyday for our meals. The kitchen was stocked with every utensils that one may need. The living room was comfortable and spacious with plenty of seating for our group.

Killaghy Castle is ideally located. We made trips to Kilkenny, Cashel, the Cliffs of Moher, Killarney and Galway. We had a great family reunion and vacation and the location and hosts made this a once in a lifetime experience.

A must for your family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Killaghy Castle lived up to expectations and surpassed others! Marie walcomed our family (10 of us) and was so gracious and helped us wiyh anything we needed! The castle is spacious with plenty of room for a large family and extremely comfortable. The grounds are breathtaking. We walked up to a local pub and the owner was also very welcoming. There is a local convenience store in walking distance from the castle. My brother has been to Ireland several times and said Killaghy Castle was one of his favorite locations! Highly recommend!

50th Wedding Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to spend our 50th wedding anniversary with our family somewhere special. What came to mind was a castle in Ireland. We knew the grandchildren would love it. Could we find such a place. After some searching we found Killaghy Castle. Just the drive in to the private grounds up to the castle this place had already exceeded our expectations. The farm setting just added to the whole experience. The castle had everything we needed. The private patio grounds in the back was ideal for a late afternoon glass of wine while the kids ran around. The location was ideal for getting around and being so close to Kilkenny was a bonus. Make sure to visit the butcher shop in Mullinhone. Small, friendly and if he does not have what your looking for he will do his best to get it. Marie, thank you for an unforgettable adventure. The castle was great for a family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We had our family of 12 for a week stay at Killaghy castle. The castle had great rooms and the kitchen was will stocked and very well equipped.

The castle grounds were just beautiful and well kept. We had food catering service and they were wonderful.

After our days of sight seeing we walked to town and went to one of the local pubs for a couple of pints of Guinness.

Maria was great, the castle was clean and the accommodations were wonderful. Very memorable, once in a lifetime experience.

If we return to Ireland we would stay again.

Thanks again, Bill & Marilyn, Oregon, USA

For a Family of 15

  • 4 of 5

We brought our 12 natural born children, along with our son-in-law, from the US to Ireland for the first time. It was amazing!! We stayed in Killaghy Castle for the second half of our trip, and took in Kilkenny and a day trip to Dublin. The younger kiddos didn't ever care to leave, asking to visit the playground daily. It was such fun! The rooms more than accommodated our group and the kitchen was very well equipped. Aldi grocery store was less than a 15 minute drive, and we visited it almost daily.

The only draw backs were the small washer and no dryer available in the main house. We did actually have fun taking the wet laundry out back to the long lines to dry, but getting the clothes in ahead of a shower proved challenging. We ended up hanging clothes all over the castle to dry. Lol And, though the beds were super clean and lush, the showers were very small. We found the house itself a little dusty with dust balls falling to the floor as we opened and closed the luxurious long drapes over the wood framed windows that you'll want to keep open, at least in summer. Very romantic all in all! Maria was very attentive and extremely amiable. We enjoyed her hospitality. Thank you!

A Memorable Stay

  • 5 of 5

I am a grandfather who brought my children and grandchildren to Killaghy Castle for a 14 day family reunion. The website does not do the place justice. There is such history attached to this castle going back to the 15th and 16th century with original features still intact. I felt privileged to have chosen such a place to stay and be master of the house. I want to thank Maria and Pat for allowing our family to stay in their home for a memorable once in a lifetime unique holiday experience.
