Bad management of a lovely house
It is difficult to rate our stay in Sada as the experience was so mixed. The person who was supposed to meet us spoke no English and passed us on to her son who did but this change of plan happened at the last minute and was disconcerting. We walked into a garden where the pool was green and full of insects with no filtration operating and the grass had not been cut. Everything was unkempt and terribly disappointing. The house had not been opened up and aired for some time and was stuffy but it was clean and everything was as expected from the listings. It was well equipped for holiday -making and we did enjoy it enormously once we had cleaned the pool and filters and put in cleaning tablets which we were able to do because we have some experience with pools. We complained to the owner and the garden was tidied on the Tuesday - we had arrived on Sunday afternoon - and the pool was given further attention. We had a very happy week at the property but check out was a nightmare. The Spanish speaking cleaning lady did not get in touch to arrange for check out and neither did her son. Check out was supposed to be at 11am and there was no sign of her although I had phoned the son earlier. We were under time pressure to leave as we had a long drive and an appointment to check in with the next gite we were renting In Cantabria so I both phoned and texted the son to ask if we could leave the keys in the mailbox outside the electronic gate. No reply came to that question so at last we did and this turned out to be quite wrong as nobody had a key for the mailbox. She got in quite quickly however with the help of a neighbor and took photographs of our supposed untidiness including some dirty marks on the shower floor which the owner bombarded me with as I was traveling and declaring that my deposit might be forfeit. I have waited until the return of this before writing this review.
It is a lovely house very well equipped and the pool is super for children. There was terrible negligence however in allowing it and the garden to be such a state for our arrival. The owner behaved haughtily towards us and made no offer of recompense for the state of the pool and garden. She needs to rethink her infrastructure for English speakers.
I must add that the area is afflicted by many dogs which bark through the night and. caused us much sleeplessness .
I am sorry this is so long but it is really not straightforward. I have never had to write a review like it.
