Luxurious air conditioned penthouse and rooftop jacuzzi

Bedrooms 3
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Superior 3 bed 2 bath beach front apartment with spectacular views of Portugal

The penthouse is situated in private gated grounds a few minutes walk from the beach on the beautiful Atlantic coastline of the island gem of Isla Canela. The apartment sleeps six, having three tastefully furnished bedrooms, two of which open onto the western seaboard. The master bedroom also has a full ensuite bathroom. There is a family bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and a large living room which opens onto a truly magnificent sun bathed terrace which boasts the finest views and sunsets on the island. The terrace is fully equipped with tables, chairs and shaded area for relaxed convivial outdoor dining. There is also a raised jacuzzi. A dedicated lift will bring you and your guests straight from the underfloor gated car park to the penthouse. Beneath you lie beautifully manicured gardens, the largest, lowest occupancy pool on the island, tennis courts, play area, showers and privately gated access to the beach.

Active Holiday or Relaxing Rest: The geography and ambient culture of Isla Canela combine to make it a truly refreshing area in which to unwind, whether through the host of available recreational activities, or, by simply lying back, relaxing and chilling out to the rhythms of the waves falling on the beach at night and the village culture of the fishermen of Barrio de Canela and Punta del Moral. Activities there are aplenty - fishing, swimming, windsurfing, cycling, beach volleyball, jogging, walking, golfing, tennis, boating and sailing. Or watch the local villagers celebrate the fiestas with fireworks, mule races, music and dancing from Ayamonte to Villablanca and back. Or relax over coffee and churros in Ayamonte, enjoy a lunch of grilled sardines and chilled wine in a beach 'chiringuito', have a siesta, and then stroll with the Spanish families along the lighted marine promenade, before heading out for a late evening dinner. Or savour your own freshly caught fare as the Western sun sets over the terrace.

In Spain: The town of Ayamonte lies over the bridge, some 15 minutes from the island. It is a vibrant bustling Spanish town, peppered with pleasing walks, generous plazas, and alfresco dining - locally caught and marketed fish enjoy pride of place together with excellent Iberian hams and reasonably priced good quality wines. Its citizens are proud of their culture and traditions, as exemplified in their fiestas, processions and dance and music festivals. The town and its citizens exude hospitality and while many are happy to use English, they are very pleased if their guests try out their Spanish. The fast food chain, litter, loud thumping music and wall-to-wall soap coverage culture has been successfully resisted. This is very much a traditional Spanish town, in which one cannot fail to be impressed by the scores of multi generational family outings of toddlers, teenagers, adults and grandparents happily relaxing together over long family meals into the wee small hours. In August, usually 15/16 ,there is an open air art festival which is well worth a visit.

Just across the River Guadiana lies the Portuguese town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. It also has a vibrant marina, and pleasing riverside restaurants. Walking from the marina into the town one can find great bargains in the port and wine shops, and, in the many linen outlets. Heading due west on the motorway will - in little more than 90 minutes - bring you to the most westerly point in continental Europe - the windswept fastness of Cabo de Sao Vicente lighthouse. The 90 minute trip east from Ayamonte brings you to historic city of Seville, the capital of Andalucia, with its old quarter housing its magnificent cathedral, with its famous Moorish Giralda Tower, and the nearby Alcázar palace. Nearer to Ayamonte and Isla Canela is the regional 'shopping' hub of Huelva. Car recommended.

NB - Pool opens for the first two weekends in June, then full time from the 15th June until the 15th September, then for the last two weekends in September.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just back from Isla Canela - Wow... we have loved every moment there. The weather was wonderful, Isla Canela is just heavenly and the apartment was marvellous. We nearly always had the pool to ourselves. We all wished we had booked two weeks.... though were not sure how the baby would be. I can tell we will be back if we can arrange things next year

Excellent apartment with fabulous views

  • 5 of 5

The penthouse apartment was as described. It was airy and very spacious with a fabulous roof terrace with great views of the pool and coast. Good location with promenade to two resort centres outside. Recommended. Katherine was great to deal with and helped us out when needed.

Just like it says

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time. We had the shared pool almost to ourselves, played some tennis and had to choose each day between walking west to the beach restaurants or driving 5 mins east to the marina.

Great Apartment!

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent place to stay; a well-equipped modern apartment in a quiet complex with excellent facilities. Admin arrangements with both the (very helpful) owner and the local agent all very efficient. It was perfect for a family break with our very young child and grandparents; the beach (spot-on) was five minutes walk and local restaurants within fifteen mins walk or a five minute drive at maximum. This wasn't a location packed full of night life, but all the better for it with a good selection of restaurants and relaxed beach bars. Try La Sonrisa (20 mins walk/5 car) for a lovely evening.

This area is a modern development, but equally isn't surrounded by high rise monstrosity,to be fair it isn't an architecturally interesting bit of the coast! Plenty of Spanish tourists here too, so it wasn't full of pizza and chips, although I suspect you could find it if you really tried. The pool at the complex was great and about as busy on a daily basis as the photos show- we never saw more than eight people in it and frequently it was just us and the lifeguard. Massive roof terrace (about as big as a badminton court) and plenty of outdoor space (with shade) to eat. Can't comment on the Jacuzzi as we were so busy/exhausted/relaxed we never got round to trying it!

Would certainly use again and recommend to friends.

Stunning Ocean views/Lovely Resort

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely time in Isla Canela, the first holiday with my baby grandaughter. The well-equipped apartment was really comfortable, with a wonderful and huge rooftop terrace, which caught the sun at every point of the day, but gave some cooler shade if needed (not to mention the jacuzzi!). The views of the ocean were terrific and, facing west, we saw some magnificent sunsets. We were just minutes walk to the far-reaching sandy beach. When we spent the day at the apartment, pool we generally had the entire area to ourselves. Even when there were other families, there was plenty of room with sun beds and umbrellas. The apartment owner - Kate - did everything she could to make our arrival and our stay as comfortable as possible.... she really couldn't have done more. Thanks Kate!

Isla Canela is well placed for all sorts of day and local trips to Portugal and South western Spain. There are a number of organised trips available locally which we found to be excellent and reasonably priced.

The local supermarkets, bars and restaurants (five/ten minutes walk) were excellent and most restaurants had magnificent locations fronting the beach. All were very friendly and the quality of the food was really good. This is a quiet resort - not for you if you like "clubbing". For us it was just exactly right!

If you like a stroll there is a promenade walk along as far as Punta de Morel to the east - where you'll find another wide selection of bars and restaurants.

Charming Ayamonte is the local town - fifteen minutes' bus ride away (1 euro). This gives a wonderful flavour of the region with a wide selection of shops and delicatessans, as well as pavement restaurants and courtyard bars - serving tapas and local fare.

I can't recommend Isla Canela and the apartment highly enough! Hope you enjoy it all as much as we did.
