A unique, very distinctive and spacious early 19th century house whose walls descend into the sea. Positioned between King Charles Quay and the adjacent Custom House Quay, from which Packet Ships departed destined throughout the British Empire. Darwin returned to Falmouth, where news of Trafalgar also came ashore, and Lord Byron departed from it. Sea views from all windows on both sides allow you to watch the hubbub of yachts, tall ships, ferry boats, cruise liners and more. A short wander brings you to all amenities. Mooring for yachts is available within 100m.

Three storey accommodation currently offers 4 ensuite bedrooms sleeping 7, and an additional guest/general WC. All rooms with sea views.

With much to see and do the house is perfect for year round holidays. Enjoy the many attractions which Falmouth has to offer within a short walking distance, including restaurants, family pubs, specialist shops, art galleries, National Maritime Museum, Pendennis Castle, wide sandy beaches and coves, multi-screen cinema, leisure and fishing trips, public pool and bowling. Walk to the southwest coast path going west, or take the quayside ferry to the path going east. Falmouth is ideal for touring Cornwall with a short drive to Lands End, Tate Gallery at St Ives, surfing beaches on the North Cornish Coast, Minack Theatre, Lizard peninsula, World Heritage Mining sites, Flambards Theme Park and The Eden Project.

No problem to stop right outside the door to load/unload, with two public car parks within 5 minutes walk (£26.30/week summer, £15.80/week winter), or free street side parking.

Welcome pack with driving instructions, where to find keys, and background information sent by email a couple of weeks before arrival. All this plus more contained in an Information Folder within the house.

Lovely Property, needs a refresh in some areas.
We enjoyed our stay in Falmouth and the house was in an ideal location. Lots going on in this location and it can be a bit noisy in the evenings. If you want to be in the middle of town you have to expect some disturbance. The house faces a busy pub. Without wanting to be to picky, the house is in need of a deep clean. The housekeeper needs to up her gain as in certain areas it wasn’t great. We decided not to complain as we are not that type of guest but there is room for big improvement. The owners also need to carry out some basic maintenance as there is a quite a few issues in the house. I am not going to list all of these but the two that concerned us most was that all doors inside the house should be able to be shut closed especially in bathrooms and bedrooms for privacy. Furthermore removing thermostatic valves on radiators so that we were unable to turn them on or up is not great for your cold guests. We did experience cool wet weather in June and it would of been nice to tweak the heating a little as the house being an old building gets cold and we were unable to do so. I will mention that the gas fire in the lounge was wonderful and we used it on two evenings. We did not raise any complaints with the owners or receive any communication from them. A courtesy call or text to ensure we were comfortable would of been appreciated during our stay. With the issues we had we would not choose to stay at this particular property again, which is a great shame as we will be returning to the area in the autumn. I am sure other guests will enjoy this property especially in the warm summer months.

Old Quay House, Falmouth May 2019
The property was as described and suited us perfectly. Clean, excellent location, in the middle of everything yet perfectly quiet. Would recommend to anyone. We'll be back.

Wonderful property in Falmouth
My family and I stayed at the Old Quay House for a week during a family holiday. It is a wonderful place to stay. The house is very spacious with great views over Falmouth Harbour especially from the large living room. Each bedroom has an ensuite which was a great touch. The location is perfect for exploring this lovely Cornish town within walking distance of all amenities including great restaurants and beaches. The hosts were wonderful with great communication beforehand including personalised directions and check-in information. They also provided a parking permit for our car so we could park next to the property which made exploring further afield so much easier. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. Highly recommended

Will be returning for sure!
We absolutely loved this property! The house is in a fantastic position firstly, lovely views, easy access to shops & pubs etc (it’s actually bang opposite a great pub find!) The house itself is great, very spacious - we particularly loved the living/dining/kitchen area. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need - plus anything you might not have thought to have packed! The bedrooms were good also, slight moan with the bathrooms as there’s very little ventilation for 3 bathrooms on the top floor. Other than that beds are comfy, everything was fairly clean and we would most definitely love to return here! Fantastic communication from the owners (even though they weren’t in the UK!) Thank you :)

About the host

Hosted by Kevin and Sophia

Host profile image
Sophia and Kevin, together with Gareth and Seana.

Kevin was born & grew up in the south-west, and together with Sophia who is Greek bought the Old Quay House as their only home. Working away in Africa for many months each year allows them to let the Old Quay House for holidays, hoping others will enjoy the south-west and their home as much as they do.

Why they chose this property

Growing up in the south-west, this is simply home. Falmouth is a fantastic place. The high street is yards away, with supermarkets, restaurants, cafe´s, galleries, craft shops, cinema, pubs, and so forth. The National Maritime Museum is a short stroll, the sandy Gyllingvase beach a ten minute walk, and the sandy Swanpool beach a further five. Pendennis castle, the harbour, recreation centre, and much more are a saunter away. The coastal footpath can be joined going west, or take a ferry from the adjacent quayside to go east.

Further afield there is the Lizard peninsula with its coves and tea shops, Penzance and Land´s End with the Minnack Theatre, the north coast and its surf beaches, the Cornish Mining Heritage sites and mines that can be visited, the Eden Centre, fishing villages stretching up the coast, and more.

What makes this property unique

The Old Quay House was built two hundred years ago as part of a seaman´s mission, and became the residence of the preacher at the quayside Bethel. On one side the rear of the house drops directly down into the sea in King Charles Quay, and on the other side the front door is within yards of Custom House Quay and the 16th century Chainlocker public house. Wake up in the groundfloor bedroom knowing the sea is lapping a few feet away, or in the other bedrooms on the second floor overlooking the harbours. Or in the winter cosy up to the open flame fire.
