The town of Cerchiara is located within the Gran Sasso - Monti della Laga National Park, about 700 meters away. above sea level, at the foot of the magnificent Paretone di Corno Grande. Ancient Roman "statio militaris", destined to monitor the Via Ceciliana that went up to the Vado a Corno pass and led to Rome, it was also an important center on the road that went from the mountains to the Tavoliere delle Puglie, the remains of the church Valentine's Day.
THE NAME:
The name of the B&B derives from the dialectal term with which the place is identified, rich in Turkey oak trees ("ciarrote"). Pure woods of this type of oak (cerrete) are found throughout the eastern Apennines and probably the name of the village also derives from this plant (quercus cerrus), characterized by the domes of the acorns similar to curls, with long filaments up to 1 cm.
The Turkey oak is the tree of fairy tales: among its fronds and its roots there are gnomes, goblins, fairies, fantastic animals, as well as saints, witches, giants, monsters, who move in the hillocks, within the spaces of the sacred mountain.
