About this property

Spectacular river views. Large roof terrace. Exceptionally convenient.

A perfect combination of (extremely) close proximity to the river plus exceptionally easy access direct off the street / from your car. No need to drag suitcases up/down narrow cobbled alleyways. Fabulously practical location. Being so close to the river and riverbank, the property avoids the (often significant) access and or parking problems associated with many other rental properties in town which are located halfway up (or at the top of) the steep lanes and alleyways leading down to the river Dart. Not only does this property provide very close proximity to the river (45 seconds), shops, cafes and restaurants but it also enjoys the major advantage of being located on a ‘sensible’ street by Dartmouth standards (normal / reasonably wide street unlike many others in town). Guests appreciate the convenience of stopping their car right outside the property (without obstructing other vehicles) to unload luggage, drop off passengers and shopping etc. before then parking either in a space on that same street or in the Mayor’s Avenue car park (permit available when booking).

(NOTE: The owners of ' Heywood ' operate a minimum age policy for younger guests of 12 years old. Before booking please ask us for more photos and property information as well as letting us know if you will require the optional parking permit. Where possible owners try to operate a Saturday / Saturday calendar, or if your stay is less than 7 nights, a Sunday or Monday start is preferable.) Upper Heywood is a spacious, comfortable, light, airy Dartmouth townhouse conversion with spectacular river and countryside views and the added advantage of a large roof terrace with all day sun. Exceptional location providing superb Dart estuary views directly across to Kingswear and downriver to Dartmouth Castle, the river mouth and out to sea. The upside down layout provides: Top floor - lounge, kitchen, roof terrace. Lower floor - two bedrooms and bathroom. Central heating. Washing machine. WiFi.

- Less than 100 metres from the river.
- Exceptional views from lounge & roof terrace
- 4 chairs & 2 small tables for roof terrace
- Sleeps four in two bedrooms
- Thirty seconds walk to the embankment.
- One minute to shops, cafes, restaurants
- Exceptionally convenient location
- Modern bathroom & kitchen
- Large walk-in shower
- Central heating
- Washing machine
- Wifi
- Parking permit (modest supplement) for town centre car park

This light, well equipped town house conversion sleeps four in two bedrooms and takes full advantage of an upside down layout over two floors to provide top floor lounge, kitchen and then roof terrace, all with spectacular views of the Dart estuary, marina, coast, castle, ferry and steam train. The two bedrooms and bathroom with large shower are on the floor below the lounge.

The property is 30 seconds from Dartmouth's historic quayside and from there, a short stroll to numerous atmospheric inns, restaurants and quaint shops. With the award winning Blackpool Sands beach a short drive away, this romantic property offers the best of both worlds. Ideal for holidays at any time of year. Short breaks or longer durations.

Upside-down layout as follows:
Entrance hall. Stairs to first floor: Double bedroom. Twin-bedded room. Bathroom with W.C. and large, modern walk in shower. Second floor: Living/dining-room with enormous bay window providing spectacular river views. Modern fitted kitchen. Spiral stairs from lounge up to roof terrace, where a panoramic view of the town and the estuary can be enjoyed to the full.

Stunning views towards the Dart estuary can be admired from the roof-top terrace of this bright and comfortable property. Electricity and gas CH included. Washing machine. Shops 100 metres. WiFi. TV & DVD. Radio. Full kitchen with electric Cooker and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer. Duvets with bed linen. Please bring towels.

Unsuitable for those with mobility problems due to stairs. As you might expect, parents are asked to exercise care with children in the vicinity of the roof terrace. Non-smokers only. No pets.

The town of Dartmouth
Dartmouth with its beautiful old-world centre is considered the capital of the South Hams, famous for peaceful rolling countryside, renowned coastline, excellent beaches (Blue Flag status) & coastal walks along footpaths leading to secluded beaches.

Dartmouth’s focal point is its bustling harbour and broad, wooded river. The town is designated a Conservation Area with 16th and 17th century timbered buildings, historic narrow streets, beautiful old shops, intimate pubs and excellent restaurants. Beach lovers will enjoy Sugary Cove near Dartmouth Castle as well as the beautiful Blackpool Sands and the long, unspoilt expanse of beach at Slapton Sands both of which are approximately 10 minutes drive.

Numerous attractions include the outdoor pool, pleasure cruises upriver to Totnes; Sailing or hiring motor boats for exploring the river or fishing; taking the Kingswear car ferry across to Torbay’s more bustling resorts of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay (10-15 minutes) or travelling on the restored steam train running between Kingswear and Paignton.

In August, Dartmouth hosts The Royal Regatta with funfair, sporting events, fireworks dispays and an array of boats. Some of the great beach destinations include Slapton, Torcross, Hope Cove, Beesands, Prawle, Salcombe, Bantham (surfing) Modbury and Thurlestone.

Recommended day trips include the estuary towns of Totnes and Kingsbridge, the riverfront village of Dittisham, a trip to scenic Dartmoor, a visit to the superb Plymouth Aquarium, a day at the truly superb Paignton Zoo or Woodlands Leisure Park.

For fishing enthusiasts there are plenty of opportunities to go out to sea and fish for flat fish, bream, pollock, bass and mackerel. Sharks and Conger Eel are also caught regularly. Fesh water fishermen have abundant opportunities for both coarse and game fishing in well stocked reservoirs or on river beats.

The Devon region
There is a wealth of things see and do in the West Country as well as having some of the most breathtaking scenery in the United Kingdom, it has several award winning beaches to relax on. The climate during the summer is often balmy as the Gulf Stream warms the seas in the area, makes for excellent surfing and other water based pursuits. As far as attractions are concerned there is the Eden Project a vast eco-project with huge bio-domes to explore which offer many species from around the world as well as plenty for kids to do.

Perfect!
This is obviously a much loved holiday home that their guest book shows people have enjoyed for over 20 years, many coming back for more. It has been update over time with a modern kitchen and bathroom with a very effective hot water system. It is well equipped and has an iron and hairdryer which I don't think were listed. The only thing I would have taken that wasn't supplied was a smaller frying pan. The one there is of excellent quality but large enough for a family of 6! The addition of the room terrace was a real bonus despite navigating the spiral staircase. The views from up there were magnificent and we couldn't see a property that was better placed. Even the view from the lounge was fantastic. You are only a few steps away from the lower street with a great place for breakfast (Alf's), a fish and chip shop (Bonus Tuesdays £5!), an Ice cream and fudge shop, a lovely restaurant at Baynards Cove Inn and access to the Lower Ferry over to KIngswear. There is always something going on and so much to see on the Estuary. Plenty of interesting places to visit particularly if you are National Trust or English Heritage members. We did the round Robin, boat, bus, steam train Dartmouth to Totnes/Paignton/Kingswear. Would suggest spending longer in Totnes than Paignton (Tacky!). As it is over 3 floors there are quite a few stairs and getting things up to the roof was tricky but I can't praise this property enough and would love to go back before too long. Thank you!

Absolute delight
The house was everything we had hoped for. Everything was either exactly as described, or even better than expected. Spotless, stylish and ideally placed for restaurants and shops. And the view! From the living room as well as from the terrace, just wonderful. I can't think of a single negative thing to say. Thank you Steve and anyone else involved. Tips: You can park right opposite the front door for an hour for free, and all night between 6pm and 9am. So with your hour, that's 5pm to 10am. Plenty of space in June, but maybe not in high season. But Steve's parking permit is nonetheless well worthwhile as it means you can leave the car for a couple of days, as we did while walking or on rvier trips. The latter highly recommended!
