Overview

About the property

An ideal place for couples who love tranquility and space.

The cottage.

La Maison des Amis accommodates 3 adults and a child up to three years old, in absolute comfort and privacy. A perfect hideaway for a couple or a family. It dates back to 1785, 4 years before the French Revolution, and displays many traditional features such as oak beams, tiled floors and external walls constructed from regional limestone rendered in the local style inside. The cottage nestles in a tranquil corner of the Loire Valley in between a productive orchard and open countryside. Its southerly aspect offers guests unlimited views of the surrounding panorama and uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. In late summer, 20 vines in the cottage’s enclosed garden offer, in conjunction with the orchard, an abundance of organic apples, grapes and pears. La Maison des Amis is, all in all, a perfect location from which to explore central France.

Living room/sitting area: Living room.

Downstairs there is a large combined living room/dining room/kitchen area. The entire floor in this area is tiled with the original tiles which still retain their beautiful old terracotta colour despite being 240 years old. The kitchen section of the room has a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a hob and oven as well as a dishwasher. This charming room has three windows with garden views.

Sitting area.

The sitting area has an wood burning stove in the original fire place. There is also electric heating for the colder winter days. Two comfortable arm chairs and a settee make the place inviting and relaxing. There is a TV/DVD player and Hi-Fi system. WiFi is available too. Plenty of books to relax reading as well as games for all. TV , English and French channels, keep the visitors happy during the rainy days.

Dining area: Dining area

A dining table with four chairs sits in front of an old French dresser which houses all the cutlery, crockery and necessary utensils. BBQ utensils, table mats and a tablecloth are provided too.

Other essentials such as washing up liquid, soap, kitchen towels and table-cloths are provided as well.

Kitchen area

Oak kitchen units, hand made by the local Menusiere, complement this part of the downstairs open plan room. A comfortable area where one can prepare food while sharing time with their loved ones. All necessary electrical appliances such as an electric hob, an electric oven, microwave oven and a dishwasher are in place to make the visitors time as confortable as possible.

There are plenty of saucepans, oven trays and kitchen utensils.

All crockery is kept in the large oak dresser by the dining area of the room. The dining table with its four chairs make eating times comfortable and enjoyable.

On the first floor there is a settee, three arm chairs a small table and a bookcase. It is the area in the cottage that one can sit and read, work or just have some time to oneself. A cozy little corner to practise yoga or to meditate.

The main bedroom is through this room. A king size bed with very comfortable mattress, two bedside tables, bed side lights and two arm chairs make this room again very comfortable and welcoming. There is large fitted double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Two mirrors and book cases complete this lovely bedroom with its old ceiling beams.

There two windows towards the south of the property overlooking the fields with the vines and walnut trees. One window overlooking the garden and the fields across on the west side of the room. A very warm and relaxing place to sleep and rest with your morning coffee.

Local area: The local restaurant, La Rénaissance, in Saint Hippolyte opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is famous for its foie gras. Booking a table at the weekend is essential. The boulangerie in the centre of the village has everything one needs, from fresh bread and croissants to vegetables and wine.

Nearby, excellent walking routes, equestrian schools, a golf course and fishing lakes provide scope for a range of activities. 9 km up-river is the medieval town of Loches, which hosts a bustling market around Le Café des Arts twice each week and hosts a literary festival in the summer. Major châteaux and vineyards can be found within a 40 km radius.

Another wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

Peace and quiet is our thing on a summer holiday and this delivers it every time. Plus a smattering of French markets, lots of local wine and food and lots of friendly natives. We are always very happy here. We've already booked for next year!

Peaceful Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Before booking Katerina couldn't have been more helpful with details on the cottage and the area. We arrived and everything was as described with a welcome bottle of bubbly in the fridge. Everything you need for an easy self catering holiday was provided and there is the option of a cot should you need it.

The surrounding area is so pretty and very quiet. We really enjoyed sitting in the garden in the evenings drinking a glass of wine and listening to the birds. It was so peaceful. I could have stayed there forever. We used the local patisserie for breakfast every morning. Getting fresh croissants to bring back and eat in the garden.

We travelled around a bit and thoroughly enjoyed Loches which is only 20 minutes away. Good restaurants and an amazing chateau. We also enjoyed visiting Ambroise for the day. It's a very beautiful part of the world.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start. We were met by Mrs Rogers and shown around the delightful cottage, and our first impressions only improved during our 2 week stay. The cottage provided us with everything we required - it really was better than home from home, and surrounded by the lovely gardens the location was truly peaceful, with plenty of wildlife and walks. We did quite a lot of cycling and the area is perfect as it is so quiet and there is something to see in every village you come across. The boulangerie in the village sold delicious breads and pastries, with the town of Loches only 15 minutes or so away for further supplies. The cottage is ideally situated for touring the area, with the chateaux along the Loire only a 30 minute drive away. The little Chateau of Montrésor and the Café de la Ville is definitely worth a visit and we also loved the little town of Saint Aignan. Thank you Mrs Rogers for sharing your little part of France with us.

Beautiful farm cottage in the French countryside

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage with our 9 month old baby for 10 days over Easter 2016 and had a lovely, relaxing time. We didn't want to leave! The owner Katerina was very helpful, friendly and really made us feel at home.

The cottage is located in St Hippolyte a small village about 20 minutes away by car from the nearest town Loche. The village is very quiet with a lovely boulangerie to get your baguettes and croissants every morning and a nice restaurant. Loche is a lovely pretty town with a beautiful castle, lots of cafes and restaurants and has a market every Wednesday and Saturday which is definitely worth paying a visit. Would definitely recommend La Galerie B for dinner on a special occasion!

The cottage itself was very comfortable for a couple and a baby with everything you could possibly need including a lovely wood-burning stove to curl up to on a cold evening! It was clean, tidy and had good Wifi as well as access to UK TV if required.

We spent our days exploring the Tourraine region with plenty of walks on offer and visits to beautiful Chateaus including Chenonceau and Amboise which are all within easy reach of the cottage.

I would definitely recommend this cottage for a lovely relaxing holiday and to use as a base for visiting the surrounding Loire Valley. Thank you Katerina!

A perfect Loire setting of peace and tranquility.

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a lovely week here - a real opportunity to relax and unwind in the most peaceful and tranquil of settings. Imagine ... the gentle hum of bees on lavender, a family of deer on the crest of the hill and a Sancerre in hand - sunshine in a glass - perfect!

The property provides a rustic experience - with all the facilities required for a very pleasant stay.

We enjoyed local markets, brocantes and the nearby chateau of Montresor along with philosophy at Descartes. Loches was perfect for morning coffee or lunch in the sun - an interesting little town with something for all.

This is a real gem of a property and we hope to return next year.

a week in the loire

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this lovely cottage. Everything was perfect and all the things we needed were provided. The grounds where the cottage was situated were perfect and so well maintained by the owners Katerina and John. Magnificent views over the surrounding countryside and a perfect base to explore this wonderful area of France. It was so peaceful but close enough to nearby towns if you wanted a night out.

We were lucky enough to have Katerina and John staying at the same time and we saw just how hard they work to keep this site in perfect order. We benefitted from their knowledge of the area which they were happy to share with us and we spent a lovely evening with them chatting and drinking wine at their home. It was a really nice stay and we would definitely recommend it.

La Maison des Amis cottage is one of four buildings that form 'Le Puits d'eau claire' farm, (the well of the clear water). It dates back to 1785, four years before the French Revolution. Renovated 20 years ago La maison des Amis retains most of its original features. It is a place where one can relax and enjoy the open countryside.

La Maison des Amis is 600 m from the centre of a very old village with a beautiful square, a restaurant, a boulangerie, a garage, a post office and two doctors clinics. The village rests along side the river Indre, a tributary to the Loire river further up.

9 km to the North one of the most picturesque towns in central France Loches, lies at the foot of the rocky eminence on which stands the chateau de Loches. The castle was one of the residences of the kings of France. The beautifully maintenained old cobbled stone street that takes you to the castle is flanked by many houses of the renaissance period.

Golf: A 9 hole golf course is nearby in Vernueil -sur- Indre. La Roche Posay has an 18 hole golf course with putting greens, and also boasts a casino, hippodrome and hydrotherapy spa.
