Great holiday in San Remo

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time - enjoying the amazing views and swimming pool.

The accommodation is quiet and peaceful with the hustle and bustle of central San Remo only a short walk down the hill.

Elevated bolt hole

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Elena, it had everything we needed. It is well looked after and cared for. There was lots of outside space to relax in and the views were lovely. The swimming pool was great for a cooling dip, despite being icy cold as I think it had been recently filled for the season. I chose the property because of the stunning views over the area, however being that high does mean that there are lots of steps to negotiate every day (sometime twice a day) so you can't just pop in and out of town unthinkingly. It took a while to get our bearings but once we did we made a point of trying to go down to the town by a different route each day. Le Pigne (the old town enroute to the main town) is a fascinating place to wander through. We left our car safely in the church square as the garage was not that much closer to the house. The last part of the walk up to the house is pedestrian only.We combined self catering with eating out and our favourite place was Osteria Camelot, beware portions are VERY generous. Re excursions, the cycle/joggers/ pedestrian path along the seafront is a great idea. We also took a trip to absolutely fascinating Bussana Vecchia nearby and although tried to use a bus to get to Bussana with an onward taxi up to the old town, we realised that the taxis come from San Remo anyway so that it was no more expensive to go by taxi the whole way, it was a really great day out. We didn't enjoy driving in Italy, the roads are narrower and the motor bikes driven quite recklessly so another time would try to use public transport for peace of mind although that means extra work at the planning stage. We would go back with friends. As there were several different currencies involved in the transaction we used 'Pingit' at the banks recommendation.

Great property with a fantastic outside area

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a two week stay in this holiday home and we were sorry to leave. The outside area of the house was fantastic and we spent many a day on the terraces sunbathing and cooling off in the pool. The views are stunning. San Remo was lively at night in the old and new parts of town and there are loads of restaurants to choose where to eat. We were thankful for the garage to park the car as it was impossible to park at the church. The heat was exceptional when we were there and trying to get to sleep at night was a bit of a problem as we could not leave the windows open because of mosquitos. Some mosquito screens on the upstairs windows would help this. The walk up to the house after spending time in San Remo was challenging but we were fitter by the end of our stay and our calf muscles were not complaining that much! Alex was always a text, email or telephone call away but happily we only had to contact him once as we had no problem with our stay. All in all, we would recommend this property and as San Remo is well placed for trips in Italy and France, we plan on returning one day to continue the sightseeing.

Lovely house, stunning views

  • 4 of 5

We have just come back from a wonderful stay here. The property has amazing views - we loved our breakfasts and evenings on the terrace overlooking San Remo. The walk was hard with a pushchair so we did get the bus a few times up the hill, but it was easy to do. The house itself was great (bar the mugs were mostly chipped and need replacing!).

Our first impression of San Remo was a bit mixed as the bit of the old town we walked through was a bit run down and a lot of dog muck everywhere. However, we really warmed to it and have come back loving it. Actually the old town has quite a charm to it. We loved the mercarto coperto in the mornings to pick up breakfast and taking the quadri-cycle was so much fun especially with the 2 year old! We had a fun day in Monte Carlo too. We had some AMAZING meals too - great restaurants.

Also Alex looked after us the whole time and was brilliant - so nice to have him to rely on! He picked us up from the station and took us to the airport. The only problem was a few times the water got cut off and we had no idea why - it happened about 3 times but always came back on about 30mins later so wasn't a major issue.

Overall - fab!

Lovely holiday house

  • 4 of 5

Definitely recommend. We had a lovely week in this house, my husband and I and our three children. Given that it is early in the season the weather was lovely- mid 20's every day. The house is very true to the photos, in very good order, nice simple decor, with great outdoor space and a very well equipped kitchen. As per the other reviews, Alex was really helpful and picked us up from the rail station - I have no idea how we would have found the place otherwise! The only thing that stopped us rating this five star was that the house was very, very damp and in particular all of our bedding was really wet, which was extremely unpleasant to sleep in and didn't dry out all week. Additional notes - remember to budget for the electric - for one week it was about 50 Euros and we were out all day. The bike ride along the coast is an absolutely super day out, try nolobici.com for hire; they have bikes (and rollerblades and boards) for all ages, there are gorgeous views and lovely restaurants and cafes along the route. Finally, all reviews mention the walk up the hill - we are a fit family and it is a 'proper' walk uphill from town but really worth it!

Owner's Response: Very pleased that you had a good stay. The high electricity this week was because of use of both heater and swimmingpool. This is not a normal cost. It usually is around 30 euros. About the damp it has been an extreme ly rainy and cold winter. We have had the house for 5 years and normally spend april ourselves and we have never had experienced that. But still very sorry about that. I know that GianCarlo and Alex try to solve it when you told them and now it has been dry out. We will also have better notice and care for next winter. Very welcome back!

A fabulous week!

  • 5 of 5

June 2013 - Our family spent a great week at this beautiful and very well equipped house.

We have high expectation when it comes to comfort, neatness and service and we are happy to say that we could not have had a better and more comfortable week.

The bedrooms are very neat and the living and kitchen areas hold high standards.

The house has a breathtaking view of San Remo and the Mediterranean Sea with a wonderful garden with lemons, thymes, basil. The lovely flowerbeds, the many terraces with inviting outdoor lounges and the outdoor beds are examples of the ”little extras” that makes this house extra special.

The 300 meter stroll from the church Madonna della Costa, were we parked our car was well worth the tranquilly and silent location which made our evenings magical.

Last but not least we would like to make an extra comment about the excellent help and service from Alessandro and GianCarlo, who takes care of the garden and the pool.
