About this property

Amarcod Skola bed & breakfast and boutique hostel

Amarcod Skola mean "I remember school" in Italian dialect (as the famous film of Federico Fellini) and in Croatian language.

It's a lovely sociable house for holidays, decorated according to a theme or a particular style of the upcycle design, with adaptation of furniture and revised objects with the new function to wrap the clients guests in a retro atmosphere seafaring school vintage, impregnated by salt and echoes schoolchildren who have frequented for nearly 100 years.

Amarcord Skola has a four rooms as B & b, two double rooms and two triple rooms, and a mixed
dormitory as boutique hostel with five beds, one of which is bookable here.

Proceeds from the creative restoration of an old elementary school situated on sea front (Pantera Gulf) near the village of Veli Rat (only 200 m. 5 minutes walking). Where guests can sleep in the double or triple rooms with private bathroom, or have a bed in a dormitory with shared bathroom and a common living room where to have breakfast or a small meal prepared from our staff in charge.

Outside there is a shaded terrace with a snack bar where to take drink or light meal and take a break to cool, read a book, make a game of backgammon (or other games provided by the management). sun we have a wooden platform to ten meters away from the sea border where sunbathing alternating the heat to swim in the crystal clear waters of the nearby sea.

Amarord Skola is 200 meters far from the Village of Veli Rat, the northern most place of the island and is located in the Čuna bay. It dates from Roman times and the most distinguished sacred building is the parish church of St. Anthony., And the famous lighthouse Punta Bjanca, located three kilometers northwest of the village. Punta Bjanca is the biggest lantern in the Adriatic and is 42 meters high.
In Veli Rat There is also a very modern marina for boats in the place as well as a tourist office and post office. Southeast of Veli Rat is the sandy beach Sakarun, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic where we manage a cool beach restaurant bar call "Amarcord Sakarun" which our guest can have special discount or a reservation directly from the B & b / Hostel.

At 2 km you can visit Soline, a beautiful small village, named after the salt works that were in the bay, and the place was first mentioned in the 12th century. Ruined Holiday
We corresponded with the owner Bea on HomeAway before making our booking, we had our reservation request accepted and paid in full in advance. Imagine our shock on arrival at the property to be told by her that she had no record of our booking, that the room we booked wasn't available for our stay and that she no longer advertises on HomeAway - all lies as it turns out!! She tried to say her correspondence to us was automatic responses from the website! My credit card company confirmed that the full rental payment was made to the property owner - I would certainly notice if this amount of money mysteriously appeared in my account but she seemingly didn't! Bea allowed us to stay for 2 nights (not in the room we had booked) and then arranged for us to stay in her grumpy friend's nearby apartment for the remaining 2 nights of our stay - this accommodation was not at all suitable for us but we had no choice but to accept it as our cell phones wouldn't work on the island, we couldn't find anything else nearby and the ferry had already departed. HomeAway couldn't help me because I accepted the owner's alternative but to be fair I couldn't get in touch with them because of the cell phone issue. Dugi Otok is a beautiful island but this experience ruined it for the 5 of us. At best this property owner is an incompetent host or at worst a dodgy one - I'll let you decide. Please exercise caution if you do decide to book this property, I certainly couldn't recommend it.
