Luxury Apartment above Hastings Old Town; close to Country Park

Overview

Property

Updated: 17-Nov-2016
The Garden Apartment is ideally situated to explore 1066 Country.

The Garden Apartment is great for a seaside break at any time of the year. The apartment opens on the garden of our Edwardian House just above the Old Town in Hastings. Whereas we have decorated our London flat in a contemporary style; in this apartment we have kept to the Edwardian theme and furnished it in the style of a time travelling Edwardian gentleman. So you will find a comfortable 4 poster bed, possibly the only 4 poster bunk beds in England but also a modern kitchen with dishwasher and a living room with very handy living coal gas fire which is wonderful to come back to after a bracing autumn walk by the sea. The apartment is ideal for four people but if there are five of you, the leather sofa in the living room converts to a small double bed perfect for one, but possible for two friendly people!

You can just see the sea from the master bedroom and the garden, whilst the country park is just a a few hundred yards away. There you can walk for miles taking in fantastic cliff top views.

About the Owner

We moved to Hastings in 2008 and chose our house in Godwin Road because we felt it was in the perfect position, offering a quiet location but close enough to the beach, the delights of the Old Town and the Country Park. We are kind of retired, except that Sue is also an artist and undertaking a degree in Fine Art Contemporary Practice at Hastings College. If you are interested in art, she will show you her studio. David is interested in history and can tell you all about how the Normans invaded Britain in 1066. We also have a holiday flat in London. We have three grown up children and our daughter Sophia is a novelist. You will find the first volume of her trilogy Romanitas in the bookshelves- watch out for her first children's book Mars Evacuees which should be published some time in 2013.

Very comfortable and charming apartment which is close to all of Hastings amenities.

  • 4 of 5

This is a fantastic holiday apartment and was spotlessly clean. The highlight is the extremely comfortable and huge four poster bed. In addition the photographs of the sitting room do not do it justice as it is a great place to sit and relax after a long day exploring all the charms of this delightful area of England. The garden too is delightful but if I was being a tad critical it requires a little TLC. That said it gets the sun all afternoon and, if you had time, it would be a lovely place to wile away an afternoon.

Hastings is a much more hilly town than we were expecting but there is a good bus service and the bus stop is a very short distance from the apartment. There is no shortage of fine pubs serving good food down in the old town and these are a short walk, or an even shorter bus ride away.

For us Hastings was a great base to enable us to explore by car. Chartwell, Hever Castle, Bodium Castle and the charming town of Rye are all less than an hour away and there is so much else to see.

In summary, we would recommend this lovely apartment to anyone. The only reason we have scored four stars is that the washing machine (an essential on our touring holiday) has seen better days and needs updating.

Lovely flat

We had a great time. Sue was very kind to receive three boisterous boys in her lovely place. Thanks to the WIFI they were very happy. We had dinner in the sunny garden. Great shower. Nice beds.

Very nice indeed

  • 5 of 5

Clean, spacious and nicely decorated.

Beds comfortable and nice selection odds (spices, sugar etc) in the kitchen.

10-15min walk from town by road or 25min via the scenic country park.

Owner friendly and helpful.

Would definitely reccommend.

Amazing flat in nice surroundings

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous place! We stayed here for three nights in June, and our favourite features were the four poster bed, the books (we nearly wished we had come for a rainy November week instead of a sunny weekend in June...), the garden and the wifi (daughter, 13). The fireplace also added to the lovely ambience. One small thing that I missed was a table cloth to protect the beautiful intarsia table at breakfast. There is otherwise a lovely table in the garden where you can sit and eat, weather permissing, but beware of the seagulls. We had to switch sleeping places, as all four of us wanted at least one night in the large four poster bed. It is not only beautiful, but also very comfortable. We were also warmly greeted, and there was good information provided about the surroundings. We had some lovely walks into the old town, and would have loved to explore the area more. I surely hope I will get the opportunity to return in the future!

Ideal and Idyllic!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this great garden apartment. All enquires before we arrived were answered by David and Sue and David showed us around on arrival. The flat is really lovely and the 4 poster bed and bunk beds were really comfortable to sleep on. The facilities were great (kitchen including dishwasher, washing machine, fab shower, hairdryer etc) and we had enough sunshine to enjoy sitting in the lounge with the doors to the garden open. In the evening we cosied up with the fire on. During our stay we didn't move our car once! Instead we walked to Hastings Old Town and to the country park (for excellent kite flying) each day. A perfect seaside get away, thank you.

Mille ans d'Histoire

  • 4 of 5

Facilities

From the Owner

The apartment is completely self contained; we have tried to make it as comfortable as possible. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher. The main bedroom and living room are south facing; you will find that the sun pours through the windows. You can relax in the garden, have a barbecue, or in season help yourself to plums from our extremely productive plum tree. We also know that sometimes the weather in England can be less than perfect! That is no reason not have a good time. We provide plenty of books, board games and cards, a DVD player and selection of DVDs, so sit in front of the warm fire and enjoy,

We also have a sofa bed in the sitting room which is converts to a double bed, very comfortable for one person, possible for two friendly people.

Notes:

  • The apartment is suitable for the elderly and infirm as it is all on one level and there is a walk in shower. However there is a short flight of steps leading down to the front door.
