About this property

An idyllic 6 bed/6 bath chateau in Burgundy, between Chablis and Auxerre

Les Arcis is an elegant country house set in extensive enclosed grounds comprising formal gardens and parkland with grand mature trees, an orchard, a vegetable garden and small vineyard. The original building dates back to the 1700s and was the hunting lodge of Colbert, finance minister to Louis XIV. There are many places to relax and enjoy the serenity of this magnificent property: long, lazy lunches in the shade of the old yew tree; a barbecue by the pool, with views across fields of sunflowers and barley and over the park and beyond to the river Serein; tennis, cycling or ping pong followed by evening drinks on the terrace and a game of boules before dinner under the stars to the chatter of cicadas.

“We had the best time at Les Arcis - it is an ideal
family get away! Beautiful setting, great food,
swimming, and aperitifs on the terrace overlooking
the garden. I will always remember our
walk through the fields to a bakery in a barn to
get fresh croissants. I can’t wait to go back!”
~Sofia Coppola

“Serenity wrapped up in a warm blanket of Peace
followed by a good dose of Calm lovingly poured
on top. Easy to drop into from Paris, and then
to launch yourself into the rest of Burgundy.
For those with more sedate inclinations, lovely
fields surround, or even just meander in the gardens
and get out your watercolor paints once
you’ve found your lawn chair’s ideal location.”
~Peter Warner

We highly recommend Les Arcis. We had a wonderful family experience which we would love to repeat.
We looked forward to a very special family holiday and Les Arcis did not disappoint in any way. Set in a lovely part of France, near a supermarket, villages and surrounded by countryside, the chateau is absolutely beautiful, typically French and very tastefully decorated. Whilst it is a stately home, with elegant furniture, it is also very comfortable and it had everything our family needed. From the time we arrived we enjoyed the pool and relaxed in the sun on the poolside seating. For cooler seating we used the veranda of the sheltered Summer house and a perfect eating and barbecue area next to the Atelier, which had a fridge for cold drinks. The Atelier also had every game imaginable and a TV area with a variety of DVDs and comfy seating. There is an electronic game/TV room in the chateau too, with seating for the whole family to have a 'cinema' evening. Outside, we enjoyed walking by the river, tennis, boules and table tennis and the children made full use of the slide and swing. The garden is beautifully maintained and it was enjoyable to spend time relaxing in the peaceful orchard. We enjoyed cooking in the very well equipped kitchen and had leisurely meals together around large family tables, in beautiful surroundings. Richard and Christine were friendly, very helpful and on-hand if we needed anything and we enjoyed meeting them. All in all, we had a wonderful experience which we would love to repeat in the future and we thoroughly recommend Les Arcis for a family holiday. Jane and family

French Wine Country Heaven
This beautifully maintained property is less than two hours outside of Paris. We never wanted to leave the grounds, there is everything to keep the kids happy: miles to run, pool, tennis, and playhouse. We adults lazed all day by the pool while the children run happy and wild on the enclosed grounds. The owner gave us wonderful reccomendations for off the beaten path wine tastings. Make sure she shows you the mill across the stream where they make the best croissants and bread. The layout of the Chateau allows for several families to enjoy a vacation together, while maintaining peaceful , private moments. Best family vacation ever.

Peaceful Paradise
We cannot say enough good things about our stay at Les Arcis! It offered everything to do: swimming, tennis, table tennis, movies, peaceful walks on the grounds, quiet reading spots and most of all, comfort everywhere. We loved that each room offered a peaceful setting. The dining rooms were able to fit all 10 of us. The main bedroom was a beautiful retreat that we hated to leave on check-out day. Mike and Alison were gracious and answered right away when we had a question. We highly recommend staying in this beautiful, wonderful place, especially after the delightful busyness of Paris. It was not difficult to get to Les Arcis from Paris. Orly, the housekeeper, came each morning to bring us fresh croissants and baguettes and tidied the kitchen. You will love your stay at Les Arcis!

Fantastic location and home!
Our family had an incredible stay at this beautiful property. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy France’s rural Burgundy area. Close to several towns and villages, we were able to shop and go to markets but also relax in the beautiful home and grounds of the Chateau. It’s a historical home with so much character. Alison and Mike were fantastic! We especially liked waking each day to fresh bread and croissants. We will definitely be back to this magical place. It’s stolen our hearts.

After 24 years of living in Paris, we recently moved back to England. Chateau Les Arcis has been our family home for the last 10 years - we went down every weekend from Paris and were based there permanently during the school holidays. Now that we live in England, we would like to rent out Les Arcis for several months of the year, so that others can enjoy it, while enabling us to keep hold of our beautiful home.

Why they chose this property

Chateau Les Arcis is a very special place. People fall in love with it from the moment they arrive. There are so many great places to visit and things to do in the area but many guests prefer to stay put and enjoy the tranquility of the extensive gardens, lie by the pool or play tennis... There's no need to actually go anywhere!
At the same time as being a peaceful retreat and surrounded by history, culture and gastronomy, there are plenty of amenities nearby ranging from local shops to a large commercial centre within 15 minutes drive.
The famous caterers Festins de Bourgogne are within 10 minutes drive and they can cater for all your needs - from large dinner parties to romantic dinners for two...

What makes this property unique

A quote from recent guests:
“A French chateau with some serious wow factor, this beautiful home in Burgundy was the perfect setting for our family holiday. Luxurious but also wonderfully laid back, it had every possible amenity - tennis court, swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen, gas barbecue, DVD with full library of movies, games room, etc - allowing us all to relax, unwind, keep everyone entertained and also treat ourselves. Would highly recommend hiring the local chef too for an extra special treat. Can’t wait to go back.”
