Overview

About the property

The Old Sawmills

Set in its very own tidal creek on the banks of the River Fowey, The Old Sawmills is a haven of tranquility.

A converted water mill dating back to the 17th century

Nestled in acres of woodland, the location alone is stunningly beautiful.

Whilst staying at the Old Sawmills you have the feeling of being on your own island, as access to the Sawmills is by boat... yet you can walk out any time, along the scenic footpath of the Saints way.

The site has seen a wealth of history from medieval merchants to Wind in the Willows, wartime employment to world famous recording studio. Located between the charming village of Golant and the picturesque town of Fowey, it’s both an ideal base for visiting many of the sights of Cornwall and a perfect setting for simply relaxing and watching the tide lap in. Good fishing can be had from the outer quay and there are many walks that can be joined from the grounds

The Old Sawmills is a dog’s paradise too, and well behaved animals are welcome. Please do call directly if you are interested in booking as emails not always received through this site.

A beautiful long weekend in an unusual secluded

  • 5 of 5

This was second time we booked put the Old Sawmills house and lodge. Yet again another wonderful long weekend. In a beautiful setting, surrounded by woods and with views out to the estuary, the Sawmills makes a perfect get away for a group to enjoy. The manager was really kind and helpful with getting everyone's luggage there by boat, she was happy to do more than one trip. The guests were also very happy to arrive at the place by boat! It was great being able to cook for all our guests in the large kitchen and we all took a walk (about 20 minutes) to the local pub. The building itself is so quirky inside and out, you can't beat staying somewhere you can only travel to by boat or by foot! A truly magical place to stay, we would love to book it again

The house was impeccable and the surroundings even more spectacular. What a wonderful place to stay especially for families. Booking was easy and correspondence with the manager and owner was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Sawmills is idyllic, a charming hideaway

  • 5 of 5

There are so many positive things I can say about this property. Ruth was very welcoming from the moment I spoke to her, and she provided our group with everything we needed to feel comfortable during our stay. The boat trip to the secluded house was exciting with guests, 2 dogs and all our provisions on board.

The house itself really took me by surprise. From looking at the pictures I knew that the property was going to be nice, but when I saw it in person I couldn't believe how amazing it was. The house is a stunning waterside property when the tide is in and in an idyllic location for woodland walks. Fowey is only 45 minutes walk away

Our friends and I really enjoyed being able to stay here and are already planning to stay again.

The Old Sawmills - somewhere quite special

  • 5 of 5

The Old Sawmills and its location are both wonderful. Together they provide the perfect environment and backdrop to enjoy more important things in life such as nature and good friendships.

We departed reluctantly, but feeling refreshed and charged by such a positive experience.

I hope to return.

Unforgettable

  • 5 of 5

We hired out the Old Sawmill and the lodge for the week of our wedding which was taking place in Fowey.

As soon as me and my then Fiancée put eyes on the beautiful Sawmill we knew it had to take centre stage at our wedding. Picturesque and in perfect peace and tranquility; the only access to the Old Sawmill is by boat or an easy 15 minute ramble through the woods from Golant. It's beauty spoke for itself, but the history of the Sawmills as a recording studio added to its attraction. When you step foot inside you are stepping in the footprints of legends. From Oasis to Jessie J; there's a long list of musicians who have recorded tracks in the studios right beneath your feet.

Decorated in fairy lights and with lanterns in the surrounding trees we got the fairy tale wedding that we'd both dreamed of. Drinks in hand friends and family relaxed on the elevated balcony watching fireworks being set off from down next to the estuary while the toasty log fire glowed away inside to take off the chill.

The house manager, Ruth helped make everything possible for us during our stay. There was no problem too big, and no job too small for her. She was a ball of happy positive energy throughout.
