About The Owner

Jerry and Caroline currently live in California. Drawn to the Mayenne over 20 years ago, they recently vacated their farmhouse 8 miles away from the Presbytère, to establish a retirement income for the future. Caroline, a high school French teacher, loves to paint and draw, and finds the Presbytère an ideal spot for plein air painting. Jerry, a Christian minister, loves to read and collect books. You too will enjoy the peaceful serenity of this home. Let the reading commence!

The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Saint-Georges-sur-Erve

We fell in love with this area rich in culture and cuisine, over 20 years ago. We have brought our family here during that time, to our farmhouse, but now, as a French teacher, Caroline brings small groups of students here each year. They get a unique perspective on French life. The history alone gives them a wonderful opportunity to expand their horizons. Châteaux, rivers, restaurants, villages of charm, antique shopping.....it's got it all.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

First time visitors to Le Presbytère are usually surprised by its grandeur. Stepping inside is truly like stepping back in history. We feel like quoting from Jane Austen all the time! We often enjoy dressing up in period costume, especially for reunions or parties. The house just seems to ask it of us! The central staircase is one of the features that attracted us most. It's so different from our suburban lives. However, despite the history and period décor, the Presbytère is comfortable for the modern traveler.

Children are very welcome, but because of the open nature of the staircase (see photos), very young children might be in danger. The entrance to the house is also up a flight of stairs. The cottage attached to the house is also owned by the owners, and is rarely occupied. There is a pétanque/boules area at the back of the property

We enjoyed the quiet restful setting, yet so close to some amazing castles and things to see.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was wonderful, good comfortable beds, well kept gardens, quiet setting, proximity to grocery stores, and only a few miles from some amazing castles and historical towns. Karen's welcome French style dinner when we arrived was amazing. We look forward to coming back someday. We completely enjoyed it! Thank you so much!

Bref, extra!!!

Chateau is Gorgeous!!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed at the Chateau for a week in March 2017 with some friends. It took us awhile to find the property but once we did we were not disappointed. It is in a lovely part of Normandy in a quaint French Village. We drove through many small villages with stone buildings - so beautiful! The house was a little stuffy but I think they had just opened it up for the season. The rooms are large and virtually every bedroom has its own bath - very nice! Karen, the caretaker was amazing and answered every one of our questions. She is a treasure!! She prepared a nice dinner for use which we ate for several days after! The Chateau is located in a central spot in Normandy. We drove to Mont St. Michel, Chateau Chenonceau (stunningly beautiful) Evron, St. Suzanne and Chartres. The week was amazing and I would not hesitate to come back!

A very nice and charming location

  • 5 of 5

We, a 10 friends group, stayed in Le Vieux Presbytère for a couple of days. First the "house" is very charming, well equiped. Everything is here to make you feel like home ... but in a little caslte in the middle of country.

Beds are so confortable and as many as necessary for our group. Also have several bathroom and toilets is very convenient.

The neighborhood is so calm, natural ... typical french countryside. We had a pleasant running time over there. Also you will find everything you need for a nice stay in the "house": BBQ, some games, washing machin (clothes and dishes), a big living room, a hugh table etc ... even a skeleton to afraid your children if they are to annoying !!

At last but not least, Caroline is a very gentle hoste. We only had email exchanges but with very fast and accurate answers. We'll recommand and maybe be back for another stay.

A wonderful place to visit!

  • 5 of 5

Three couples went to stay in "an old chateau" and were thoroughly charmed by its antiquity! From its original stone floors and impressive winding, 4 story staircase to its grand back yard with rows of lavender and a cute tree house, Vieux Presbytere was a delight. The grounds were a well kept, lush green and the hydrangeas were in beautiful pinks and purples; such a beautiful surrounding for morning coffee and pastries out under the patio! With 4 bedrooms, there was plenty of space for privacy and also plenty of space for being social. Any need or question we had was quickly met/answered by our hosts, Caroline and Jerry, who were also so informative about the history of the house and local surroundings. The pictures on the website are very accurate, but you have to be there in person to appreciate the true beauty of the place! It is a great location to travel from: short trips to nearby towns as well as day trips to further locations like Normandy or Mont St. Michel. I definitely would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to relax and unwind, spend quality time with family or friends, and to visit historical locations. Caroline and Jerry are fun people to be around if you choose to include them in your visit. We did! (Fight on!)
