In need of significant improvement
A very nice greeting from Ana who met us at the airport and drove us to the apartment. Good location on a quite street with entry from pavement through a rather difficult to open metal railed door. Initial impression of the apartment on opening the door was really quite shocking as it was in extremely poor decorative order and not at all the "Charming, beautiful penthouse" given in the description of the apartment on HomeAway. Very basic/old furniture and in serious need of a thorough paint job throughout. Everywhere clean enough, but hard to make anywhere appear really clean and tidy when the overall furnishings and decoration are in such bad condition. The bed linen was clean but mis-matched and very worn, the bathroom towels were even worse and the bathmat really needed disposing of. Incredibly there was no kettle or toaster provided, which I believe are the most basic kitchen items you should expect. On giving Ana a call, she responded promptly and delivered a kettle later that day although she was initially quite surprised we even needed one!! We didn't realise there was no toaster until the next morning but by then we just couldn't be bothered to ask. There were only 4 mugs in the apartment - all different, one chipped and one with a Christmas Tree on it! The bathroom fitments were loose and hanging from the walls - the shower itself did have a good amount of water pressure which was a bonus.
All in all, the condition of the apartment did not accurately reflect the description on the website and I doubt anyone, other than perhaps a couple of lads on a stag weekend, would be happy to stay there. In saying all this, I did get the impression from Ana that she was shortly going to be undertaking some decorating work and that she would be replacing the threadbare leather settee so maybe, once all that work was completed, it could come up to scratch. Until that happens, I would certainly not recommend anyone to stay there.
