About this property

Lovely rural property yet close to amenities and motorway

High Gate at Herd House is a barn conversation with exposed stone work and oak beams. Set in rural Lancashire, yet close to the motorway. Making this an ideal setting for those wishing to tour the wider areas of Lancashire, the Lakes, and East Yorkshire.
High Gate is the largest of our properties, the lounge has 3 three seater sofas, two arm chairs a dinning table that seats 8 and space for an additional table to be added if needed. The lounge has access to the patio area at the rear of the property. Where there are tables and seating, the patio area opens up onto a large lawn area ideal for children to play.
In the kitchen there is also a table that seats 6, other amenities in the kitchen include, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms two rooms have a king and a single bed, one with en-suite, the third bedroom room has three single beds. There is a forth room on the first floor that can be a second lounge or forth bedroom with two sofa beds
Next Door to High Gate is Threshings a property that sleeps 6 the two properties can be used for larger parties

There are Blues festivals, each year in Burnley and Colne, in July the Balloon festival and a walking week, Briercliffe has historic connection with the Quaker Movement some of the older properties being used as a meeting house.

For people looking for the historic castles there are Skipton and Clitheroe. Houghton Tower is a 16th century fortified manor house. Country houses include Townley and Slamesbury halls. Howarth art gallery has the largest collection of Tiffany glass in Europe. The Abbeys of Whalley and Sawley. The ruins of Wycoller Hall with its Bronte connections, all this and more are just a short journey.

Very near is a activity centre where Archery, Abseiling, Canoeing, Orienteering, Bush craft & survival skills, Gorge scrambling, Hill walking, Improvised raft building, Bumpazorbing plus lots of other workshops and activities. Golf facilities there are 5 clubs in the area, and fishing in the reservoir near by.

For the walker we have the Forrest of Trawden and Wycoller country park, Hard castle craggs, Widdop moor and Gorple moor. Howarth and Bronte country, all well worth a visit. The Forrest of Bowland owned by the Duchy of Lancaster and is favoured by the royal family. Pendle Hill is a must with it's connection to the Lancashire witches' whose story has not been forgotten in 400 years. Not forgetting that Burnley has the largest area of parkland in the country for a town of it's size.

Industrial heritage Queen Street Mill, with it's working steam engine, was used as a set for the film The Kings Speech. For the steam enthusiast the Settle to Carlisle line takes you over the Ribblehead Viaduct one of the wonders of the industrial age, Clun chain railway in Preston has 40 steam trains, Howarth and Skipton have steam lines that run a regular service.

The beaches of Blackpool, Morecambe, and Southport, are about 1 hour away. At Crosby there are the sculptures on the beach, and down the road at Formby the woodland is home to the Red Squirrels

All of this can be found from walking distance to an hours drive away, travel further and there is much more, so come and visit.
This property is next door to Threshings cottage making it ideal for the larger party.

It was amazing get away
Rooms were really nice and brilliant place to bring people together. Would go again and if wanted familys to come there are other cottages. Wi-Fi was really good and big oven for cooking. Beautiful scenery and little pubs near only a few pound in a taxi if you would like to go somewhere.
