Olhão - Good starting point to meet locals in this fishermans town

The house consists of a lounche with sofa/bed, 1 bedroom with a specious 2-persons bed, a bathroom with toilet, shower and washing machine, a kitchen with fridge, coffee maker, water coocker, coocker, toaster and everything you need for coocking your own meals. And there is a dining area. A childs bed can be provided. It is situated just behind the boulevard and a 5 min. walk to ferries which bring you to beautifull islands for the coast. About Hendrika Priester

Hi, my name is Dingeman van der Stoep, we are a Dutch couple, moved to the Algarve nearly 16 ago. We live in Sao Bras de Alportel and own houses in Olhao, Estoi and one on the island Armona, which we rent out. We like to receive guests and show them the real, pure live here in this part of Portugal. In Holland I was an antique dealer and here we are looking for antique tools and try to give them a second change.

Recently we bought this property because we so like Olhao! It is a lively town, fisherman, working area. This property lies just behind the sea side yet it is in a quiet road.

What makes this house unique

The house is a traditional build house, moorish style. It has thick walls, high ceilings and inside all tiled. And of course the roof tarrace with views on the sea and islands before the coast.

Nice relaxing holiday

I visited Portugal many years ago, and this was my first visit to Olhao. Fabulous location, lovely promenade to stroll along, meandering streets with shops, lots of restaurants one in particular is a must ( Pizza na Pedra ). Olhao felt safe and relaxing and the local people were very friendly. The town house was exactly as described, great location, very clean and well equipped, the owners Dinco and Henny have thought of everything, they also very kindly picked us up from the airport and dropped us at their town house leaving a welcome note and some essentials in the fridge which was a nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this town house and location.

Pleasant Stay in Olhao Town House

The owners were very attentive and awaiting my arrival. they showed me around the little well appointed flat. everything was spick & span and well equipped.

the location couldn't be better, right by the harbour and markets and an easy walk everywhere in the town. I felt safe and comfortable throughout my visit.

I would highly recommend this location and flat for one or 2 persons who are used to town life. there is a bit of night life around the restaurants but once you

close the door and shutters it's fine. Also they quit fairly early. I had a perfect week and thoroughly enjoyed Olhao as well as my accommodation. My thanks to the owners. the nearby beaches are splendid and there are other towns that one can explore by train or bus if you don't have a car. Transport is excellent. People are friendly and helpful and everyone seems to speak several languages !

2 minutes walk from the house you can catch the ferry or water taxi for a short ride to the 'car free' islands of Armona & Farol/Culatra. Both the lagoon and Atlantic sides of the islands are easily accessible on foot. Off season they feel wonderfully remote but are quiet throughout the year. Faro beach (3km long) lies 8km west. 8km east is the resort of Fuseta and a little further the massive island beach off Tavira. A treat for children of all ages is the train ride across the flats to Praia do Rey.


Faro Airport is 10 km away.


A car is not essential as everything within walking distance. Car hire is easy at Faro Airport and parking is within 100m of the house as TV Joao da Carma is too small to allow cars through. If you wish to explore, trains from Olhao or taxis can take you to Faro where the old cobbled walkways have a variety of shops and the walled old town is well worth a visit. Serious shoppers are just 8km from the chic shopping mall at Forum Algarve, where there is also a cinema that shows English films

Further Details:

Car hire is easy at Faro Airport and parking is within 100m of the house as TV Joao da Carma is too small to allow cars through. There are dozens of small bakeries in the alleyways and around the market which sell freshly-baked rolls and the traditional custard tarts. The market which runs 6 days a week offers every kind of fish and shellfish straight from the sea. The neighbouring market supplies fruit, vegetables and meat.

Newspapers, cashpoint, banks and post office are all within 2 minutes walk of the house.
