Beautiful house, stunning area
About the Owner
Jesmond Cottage is our family holiday home. We have been enjoying weekends and holidays in the area for many years. We live and work in London and have family in Salisbury, and Romsey. The garden is our much loved hobby, and our son enjoys the trampoline!

location was fantastic
walking dog was easy as was walking to the coastline morning and night
property suited our needs and apart from a few early problems which were resolved I cannot think of anything else needed (maybe a rail in master bedroom with hangers)
it would be ideal for cyclists wishing to do the solent way
Beautiful house, stunning area
We stayed at Jesmond Cottage for February half term. The house was great value for money and perfect for all our needs. With 2 children under 6, there was plenty of space for them to run around and the owners had kindly left toys out for them too. With a trampoline in the garden my 5 year old was in heaven. The situation of the house is perfect for visits to the sea and to the New Forest. Boat trips to Hurst Castle and walks in the Forest. We were lucky with the weather but I would love to return in the summer to make use of the garden and beautiful beaches etc. My only very small comment would be that the house could do with a few more saucepans!! We like to cook and there were no large pans!! Thank you though..fabulous stay and we will definitely return one day.
We were delighted to find the house as beautiful clean and sunny as the description suggested. The house is surrounded by fields and so has far reaching views and is lovely and quiet. My son is 16 months and he had great fun playing with all of the toys and visiting the baaa's (sheep) and eyoors (horses!) who were in fields along the road. Just around the corner is a lovely pub and a little further on from that is the beautiful sea; we took a walk down to the sea each morning and evening to enjoy the views. As you can tell, we had a great time, we will be back.
Great location & plenty of room
The cottage is on the edge of Keyhaven and is a short walk away from the harbour - maybe 10 mins. You get afternoon and evening sun with an outlook across the fields. Eleanor provided some information on local walks and was very helpful. Overall the holiday went very smoothly.
We had a fabulous weekend. The house was easy to find and was light and airy and clean. All the beds were made up ready. The garden was full of flowers and fruit trees - wonderful smelling roses! A trampoline with cage also for the children to play on.
Communication with Eleanor, before we arrived was excellent. She asked us what we wanted to know about and was able to recommend places to eat and visit. We visited Hurst Castle (ferry just down the road), cycled in the New Forest (a short car journey), shopped in Southampton and went crabbing in the harbour at Keyhaven.
You do feel as if you are staying as a guest in someone's house rather than a typical rental property, which may not appeal to all.
All in all a great choice for us and we got lucky with the weather too!
Lovely week away in a beautiful location
Beautiful detached property in a very peaceful location. Not the usual holiday let, much more of a home from home. We took toys for our 3 year old but there was really no need as there were plenty of toys for her to play with including a trampoline in the garden. There was everything u could possibly need in the kitchen. All bedding was provided and our 3 year old loved sleeping in the bunk beds. The property is in walking distance of the ferry to Hurst Castle which was a lovely day out. The local pub was also nice and is renowned for its crab sandwiches. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
From the Owner
“With both the sea and the New Forest close by, Keyhaven is a very special place. We have kept a sailing boat here for many years and love to come and use the house at weekends and in the school holidays. Even on busy bank holidays the lane is quiet, but there is always entertainment up the road at Milford where the village green has music, art shows and a great fish & chip shop.”
Activity and Interests
The Solent can be seen from the house, and Keyhaven Harbour is a 10 minute walk down the road. A better beach for swimming is towards Milford-on-Sea and can be reached by walking for about 20 minutes.
Nearest train station is Lymington Town, and a frequent service to Waterloo runs from Brockenhurst. The local bus service is quite limited and so having a car is recommended.
Keyhaven village pub is less than 1 mile away. The nearest shops are at Milford-on-Sea, a distance of 1.5 miles by road or 15 minutes walk across the field footpath. The beautiful town of Lymington with its shops, restaurant and marinas is 8 miles away by car. The New Forest National Park starts at Keyhaven and offers thousands of acres of unspoilt walking, wild ponies, attractive villages with shops, pubs and cafes.
Keyhaven Marshes are a famous bird-watching area, and site of special scientific interest. The history of the area is fascinating as Keyhaven was a major salt-producing area prior to the discovery of salt in the ground in Cheshire. The shingle spit is home to Hurst Castle, built by Henry VIII, and where Charles I was imprisoned.

From the Owner
“The house is detached and does not have a direct next-door neighbour. It is unbelievably quiet and the lane has very little traffic. The views out over the countryside are very calming after coming down from London, and the sunsets over the back garden are usually beautiful. Keyhaven is an interesting quiet village with amazing history - everyone is very friendly and the farm shop is superb. The big village of Milford-on-Sea up the road is a wonderful place to shop and eat, walk and swim.”
