Overview

About the property

Cottage in Keyhaven, Near Lymington, Hampshire, England - Peaceful location, 10 minutes walk to the harbour and coastal path,

Surrounded by the neighbouring farmland, and within the New Forest National Park, this recently modernised, 3 bedroom (1 bathroom) detached house has stunning views in all directions. The beds are one double, twin singles and a pair of bunk beds (suitable for children or small adults only).

The well equipped house is on two levels with attractive front and back gardens. Keyhaven is a magnet for those who enjoy birdwatching, sailing, walking and swimming, while the New Forest provides wild ponies and acres of unspoilt countryside for picnics and walks. Local pubs and cafes abound on this stunning part of the Hampshire/Dorset coast. The Keyhaven estuary hosts wonderful birds, ferry trips to Hurst Castle, views to the Needles Isle of Wight, and coastal paths for walks and bike rides. Our garden is full of interesting plants and a trampoline for children.

About Eleanor Sturdy

Jesmond Cottage is our family holiday home. We have been enjoying weekends and holidays in the area for many years. We live and work in London and have family in Salisbury, and Romsey. The garden is our much loved hobby, and our son enjoys the trampoline!

Eleanor Sturdy purchased this house in 2006

Why Eleanor Sturdy chose Milford on Sea

With both the sea and the New Forest close by, Keyhaven is a very special place. We have kept a sailing boat here for many years and love to come and use the house at weekends and in the school holidays. Even on busy bank holidays the lane is quiet, but there is always entertainment up the road at Milford where the village green has music, art shows and a great fish & chip shop.

What makes this house unique

The house is detached and does not have a direct next-door neighbour. It is unbelievably quiet and the lane has very little traffic. The views out over the countryside are very calming after coming down from London, and the sunsets over the back garden are usually beautiful.

Keyhaven is an interesting quiet village with amazing history - everyone is very friendly and the farm shop is superb. The big village of Milford-on-Sea up the road is a wonderful place to shop and eat, walk and swim.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an absolutely amazing week! The weather was just incredible for October (I've never had a birthday so good), we just hoped it would be dry but the sun shone all week!

Your house is fabulous, we've never rented anywhere so well stocked with crockery and extras. We pinched a bit of your ice by the way but left a bag in the freezer for you to replace it 😊

We loved your DVD collection too, we obviously have very similar tastes. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Control again and some new films too. But now we want our own home movie system, just need to buy a new house with a wall big enough for the screen as it wouldn't fit in our Georgian cottage!

We had an awesome week

Kindest regards

Beautiful relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely family home, felt instantly relaxing on entering. Perfect for unwinding and chilling out and waking up to the birds singing in the mornings refreshed from a truly relaxing sleep in super comfy beds. Would highly recommend to family & friends and would book again.

We were a family of adults and stayed for a wedding at Hurst Castle. Perfect location for water sports and walking.

Perfect house, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house, in a perfect, sleepy location, away from it all. The house was clean and of a high standard. The house was bigger than we had expected from the photographs, which was a bonus. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom had a terrific power shower!! Boys loved the wind down cinema screen!!! Watched a few DVDs on our stay! We were out and about alot during our week, visited Christchurch, Bournemouth, Isle of Wight, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Hurst Castle and the surrounding local towns. It's in a beautiful location and perfect for touring the New Forest. I would certainly recommend this house and would definitely return to it if I was in the New Forest.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is absolutely charming and lovely! It was spacious, bright and airy throughout. The garden was amazing and both myself and my child enjoyed the trampoline! There were toys for my child and lots of films to watch on the brilliant projector. The house is in a

Perfect location for all the sights of the New Forest. Would love to stay here again.

Coast/Beach:

The Solent can be seen from the house, and Keyhaven Harbour is a 10 minute walk down the road. A better beach for swimming is towards Milford-on-Sea and can be reached by walking for about 20 minutes.

Travel:

Nearest train station is Lymington Town, and a frequent service to Waterloo runs from Brockenhurst. The local bus service is quite limited and so having a car is recommended.

Distances:

Keyhaven village pub is less than 1 mile away. The nearest shops are at Milford-on-Sea, a distance of 1.5 miles by road or 15 minutes walk across the field footpath. The beautiful town of Lymington with its shops, restaurant and marinas is 8 miles away by car. The New Forest National Park starts at Keyhaven and offers thousands of acres of unspoilt walking, wild ponies, attractive villages with shops, pubs and cafes.

Further Details:

Keyhaven Marshes are a famous bird-watching area, and site of special scientific interest. The history of the area is fascinating as Keyhaven was a major salt-producing area prior to the discovery of salt in the ground in Cheshire. The shingle spit is home to Hurst Castle, built by Henry VIII, and where Charles I was imprisoned.
