About the property

2 bedroom cottage, sleeps 4 overlooking some of England's best countryside.

The Yorkshire Dales is certainly God's own Country. Rolling hills and picture perfect views greet visitors on arrival at Great Gib Cottage.

If you’re after a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of 9 til 5, or a family holiday, then look no further. Our cottage offers peace, space, impressive panoramic views, wildlife, nature and cosy comfort in a secluded location.

We have tried to leave all the original features including stable doors and beautiful beams. There is a definite feel of home whilst being up-to-date, clean and fresh.

It is an upside down house, which allows you to see the incredible views from the comfort of the sofa in the lounge and kitchen.

The cosy bedrooms and a bathroom are downstairs. One bedroom is a double whilst the other is a twin, both with wardrobes.

The shower room is on the mezzanine alongside the area dedicated to study and work, complete with a desk and books. Limited Wifi is also available.

The lounge and kitchen is open plan, windows at each end so the morning sun shines and you can admire the evening sunsets from the window seats.

The garden is a paddock where you can have your own private BBQ. Garden furniture is available. There are also a few toys, swings and slides for families, if needed. There is an area in the barn where you can store your bikes, wet boots etc.

The central heating is oil fired, which heats the water and the house. We have a gas stove in the lounge, which looks like a wood burner.

Parking is available for up to two cars next to the cottage.

The cottage is located up a farm track which is approximately half a mile. The track is maintained regularly. You will drive past a historical leadmines, another house and then you’ll reach Great Gib.

Stay at home and relax in our beautiful cottage and garden. Take a look around the Historical Lead Mine minutes from the cottage. You can even stroll down to Cononley or Lothersdale and sample some traditional Yorkshire pub grub.

My husband designed this beautiful 200 year old barn conversion, which is attached to our house. This type of house and barn is called a Laithe House, built in approx 1750.

We love animals but sorry, due to allergies of other people, we do not allow dogs or smoking in the cottage.

About Ann Durham

The Durham Family have lived at Great Gib since 1982 and we decided to convert part of the barn into a Holiday let in 1997. My husband is an Architect and I love homemaking so we kept all the original beams and made it into a sympathic conversion. We have three daughters, all of whom have flown the nest but live close and now we have 4 grandsons. Over the years when the girls were at home we have had horses, pig, goats, sheep, hens. Now we just have sheep, lambs, hens and Guinea pigs.

My husband Andy still works from home as an architect. When I gained my Mountain Leader qualifications it gave me confidence to experience and lead adventure walking in the Arctic Tundra and Nepal and to start my own outdoor business. If you want to go rock climbing or walking, I am your woman!

Why Ann Durham chose Cononley

We wanted space and a project, we certinaly got the project. We bought a Farm House with an attached Barn so we converted part of the barn into the holiday let that was about 20 years go. Since them we have rented it off for long term and holiday lets. We recently re-decorated the whole house, adding beautiful shutters on every window, adding new furniture and giving it an up-to-date, clean feel.

Peace, space to roam, views of rolling hills, nature, tranquility, privacy, heritage, shopping, walking, cycling, family time, Bronte Country, site-seeing.

Private and the feeling of remoteness but only 4 miles from Skipton.

What a lovely hideaway, the cottage was more than adequate with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Clean and cosy with all appliances required and comfy beds.Perfect location for walking and sightseeing, with fresh scones on arrival!! Would recommend.

Amazing stay in Yorkshire

Andy and Ann's barn conversion Cottage is an incredible place to stay while visiting the Yorkshire Dales.

What a view, location and setting.

The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable and is a perfect place to do day trips of the area.

Ann can give you advice for incredible walks, drives, shopping areas and has the books and maps for whatever level of experience you are looking for.

We had a wonderful week at the cottage and hope to return again soon to experience more of the Yorkshire Dales and it's fantastic people and sites

Located 15 minutes away from the busy market town of Skipton, you can explore the market, shops, castle, canal or catch the train to Leeds or York.

Use the cottage as a base to explore Bronte Country, Malham, Grassington, Saltaire, Bolton Abbey, Harrogate. Ilkley Moor or spend a day exploring the Dales, James Herriot Country. So much to do, see and experience.

The North West coast is is an easy drive, just over an hour from the cottage. Visit Blackpool illuminations or the Anthony Gormley sculptures at Crosby beach.
