About Richard or Rachel Davey

We were married in 2014 and our wedding reception was four doors down in the field of the Talbot Arms pub. We love our cottage and plan to move here permanently when we retire. We hope you’ll love it too!

Richard or Rachel Davey purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Richard or Rachel Davey chose Uplyme

With its mild, temperate climate Lyme Bay is an ideal winter as well as summer holiday destination. The weather is temperate, by British standards and far warmer than many other places at a similar latitude owing to the influence of the Gulf Stream.

The Good Beach Guide provides ratings for all the beaches along the Lyme Bay coast and most achieve the highest award. You will find good food to eat at excellent seafood restaurants including Hix and River Cottage, welcoming village pubs and tasty fish and chip takeaways.

Lyme Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Many of the earliest discoveries of prehistoric remains were made by Mary Anning, the 19th century fossil hunter, in the area surrounding Lyme Regis. Today, cliff faces and rock falls continue to expose fossils and reveal up to 250 million years of history.

The wonderful South West Coast Path follows the contours of the Triassic and Jurassic coast from Studland in east Dorset, around Lyme Bay in west Dorset and east Devon, then along the south Devon and Cornwall coasts, back through north Devon to Minehead in Somerset.

What makes this cottage unique

Stamps Cottage is located in a lovely part of England and is quick and easy to get to from the M5. This newly-built property in Uplyme is just fours doors down for the pub which is the heart of the village and the coastal town of Lyme Regis is within walking distance. Uniquely, Stamps Cottage has its own optional Beach Hut on Monmouth Beach where you can complete your seaside holiday.

Fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Great location for the river walk to Lyme and village pub is only 50 metres away with great food and a friendly vibe.

THe cottage is spotlessly clean and very comfortable and the log burner is the icing on the cake.

WE had two sunny days on our 3 night stay and made full use of the beach hut which has fantastic views of the golden cap and coastline.

WE will return in the summer to Stamp Cottage. IT was a fantastic and enjoyable break and we can't wait to come back.

Fine as a base but not much good as a place to hang out

  • 3 of 5

It's a new well equipped property but the location is misleading. Uplyme is a small village but the road running through it is a major through Road into Lyme Regis and this hoose is right on the road so it's noisy during the day and there is no view from the house or garden. So not much good if you want to hang out in the house and relax. Fine if you wanted to use it as a bar and are planning to be or during the day.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for the Feedback. We would like to point out that our advert has detailed information regarding our location. For the views we have our seaside Beachhut to compliment our village location. Giving you the best of both worlds. Best wishes Rachel Davey

A most enjoyable mini-break

  • 5 of 5

Stamps is a modern, well equipped cottage. Compact but cosy and well located for access to Lyme and River Cottage HQ, our two intended destinations. The weather during our stay was grim and wet but we felt warm and comfortable inside. Internet access was very good and there were TVs in every room.

We couldn't find instructions for the dish washer so had to look them up online. Managing the sound bars on the TV was a bit hit and miss, but these were our only difficulties. Bev, the housekeeper, lives two doors away and was charming and helpful.

We would be very happy to return.

weekend break away

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stamps Cottage, everything is so beautifully furnished and just perfect. Would highly recommend this lovely cottage to anyone who was thinking of staying, it is a real home from home. The added benefit of the beach hut is great, bags of information in the cottage about local places to visit etc, and the local bread milk and biscuits which were left for us when we arrived were a lovely gesture. lovely places to eat or dine too.

Lovely location and warm and cosy cottage

  • 4 of 5

A well equipped cottage, warm and cosy wood burner. Local well stocked shop near by. Lyme Regis a 20 min walk into town via pavements or a lovely river walk through lovely countryside. Although on B road, very quiet and nature all around. Really enjoyed relaxing here with family.
