About Karen Griggs

We bought The Old Forge (and The Garden Shed) in August 2013 in a poor state, and since then have worked hard to restore both the property and the gardens. We love the results and are sure you will do too.

We love the space it gives us for our animals, and currently have two guinea pigs, three rabbits, eight chickens (although that number changes regularly!) and a small dog called Bob.

Karen Griggs purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Karen Griggs chose North Yorkshire

It's a stunning property, with the most exceptional gardens, in a brilliant location! It has all the benefits of living in a city but with countryside all around.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived and communication before our trip was really helpful providing places to eat and visit. The garden shed was absolutely beautiful, very well maintained and had everything needed. The owners really had thought of everything from toiletries and super soft towels to kitchen utensils and even a chimenea to keep us warn on the patio. It really was a home from home. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and we were free to wander and say hello to the chickens and rabbits. The surrounding area is very quiet and peaceful but at the same time not far (15-20 mins) from York. It's an excellent location for exploring. We (my husband and I) have stayed in lots of different accommodations from fancy hotels to camping but this has to have been one of our favourites. It really made the weekend a mini holiday. We loved it.

Cosy, high standard accommodation, the hosts were very welcoming and the welcome basket was great.

  • 5 of 5

The garden shed was great, set in beautiful gardens and everything in the accommodation was finished to a high standard. The hosts make sure all their visitors are well looked after, there were towels, blankets, bowls and treats for our dogs. Lots of lovely walks, villages and York close by. We highly recommend this property,

Beautiful and tranquil place

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin, and more so as we could bring our dogs with us. It is very well set up with everything that you need, even for the dogs, and the extended gardens were a great extra on this sunny weekend. Would certainly recommend this place and the owners made us feel special and able to ask for anything we may have forgotten (but we did not need to as so much is provided).

Beautiful haven of peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Just returned home after a weekend staying in the Garden Shed. What can I say....it was absolutely wonderful😊

On arrival, we were met by our host Karen and what a lovely host she is.

We (including our little dog Thandi) were made to feel very welcome. The 'shed' is beautifully decorated, warm, cosy and spotlessly clean. The bed is lovely and comfy with very nice bed linen.

Karen has thought of everything to make your stay memorable. ... tea, coffee, milk, eggs, condiments , even a bottle of wine and a lemon drizzle cake. Oh, and toiletries, dog treats and logs/sticks for the log burner!!! The list goes on.

We were particularly impressed with the small enclosed patio/garden that goes with the 'shed' -no losing your dog🐶 Just through the small garden gate you enter the 'family' garden which is huge and absolutely beautiful 🌳💐🌻🥀 and you are positively encouraged to walk around and enjoy it.

All in all, thank you Karen and family for a lovely weekend. We will definitely be back!

Kind regards

Jean, Robert and Thandi🐾
