Barn in Goodleigh, Nr. Barnstaple, North Devon, England - Beautifully Peaceful Rural Setting, Only 15 Minutes Drive To Famous Surfing Beaches Of North Devon

Great Lilly Cottage is an historic 2 bedroom barn conversion sleeping 4, recently renovated to a high standard and nestled in a peaceful and picturesque corner of North Devon. Located on the outskirts of the village of Goodleigh, this property is a perfect rural retreat; only a 15 minute drive to the white sandy beaches of Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde, yet on the edge of Exmoor National Park. A perfect base to explore the whole of North Devon; whether you're into surfing or just scenery-spotting, coastal-hiking or horse-riding. Enjoy this peaceful rural setting that's only 5 minutes drive from the historic market town of Barnstaple, which has a wide range of amenities and tourist attractions. Great Lilly Cottage forms part of Great Lilly Farm where the owners, Kate & Ali live with their family and assorted menagerie including Pygmy Goats, Pigs and Chickens. The cottage is a 3 storey renovated barn with its own private parking and extensive & enclosed gardens - and being animal lovers, we happily accept well-behaved pets. Please note, although on 3 levels, the cottage is open plan with both bedrooms opening onto the central staircase.

About Ali & Kate Fenton

Hello, we are Kate & Ali. We live with our 2 children and growing menagerie of animals at Great Lilly Farm, adjacent to our newly renovated holiday barn - Great Lilly Cottage.

We've always loved this part of the country and moved down from Scotland a while back to find a more outdoor way of life. We have chickens, pygmy goats, pigs, dogs & cats and we're hoping to make our own honey this summer.

We love living here - where else would you find foxes, badgers and Buzzards all making their homes in your garden?!

If you love the countryside, long walks, beautiful sandy beaches and cosy country pubs - this is the place for your next holiday.

Ali & Kate Fenton purchased this barn in 2013

Why Ali & Kate Fenton chose Barnstaple

There are many 'great' things about Great Lilly Cottage but our location in the heart of North Devon gives you the opportunity to have a really varied and flexible holiday.

If you love the sea and beach-style holidays, you have award-winning beaches including Woolacombe and Croyde only 20 minutes drive away. Hire surf or paddle boards, learn to kite surf or just enjoy the sunshine.

For young families, we have many tourist attractions on our doorstep including Exmoor Zoo, The Big Sheep and Combe Martin Dinosaur Park.

We are also only a short drive from Exmoor National Park offering you spectacular walks, horse rides or safe cycling.

What makes this barn unique

We both love good design and the great outdoors, so we hope Great Lilly Cottage feels just a little bit different to your average holiday let. The rustic style combines all the modern conveniences you might need with little touches of luxury - including Orla Kiely bedding and complimentary washing kits from Hogwash - a local organic soap & bath product producer.

We had such a lovely few days here and could easily stayed longer. The cottage was gorgeous and had everything we needed. we where very late to arrive but welcomed by the owners who showed us around. I think we where lucky with the weather as the sun was shinning, there are some lovely beaches within 15-20 minutes away which we loved..... we will be back

Beautiful cottage very well presented and a lovely log burning stove to keep you warm.

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't fault the cottage in any way. The owners Kate and Ali were very helpful and Ali met us on arrival showed us round and then left us to it. There were two spacious rooms, one double and one twin, and an open plan kitchen/dining room which had a wood burning stove as a focal point. The spaces work very well and give the impression of a much bigger space. We went as two couples, each with a child aged 10 months and 3yrs. Even with two little terrors running/crawling we found it more than suitable. Ali also setup baby gates on all stairs and provided high chairs and cot which saved us having to bring them. We were also greeted with scones and a bottle of prosecco on arrival which was very thoughtful after a long journey. We didn't do too much exploring but there are some great pubs local, The Chichester Arms in particular is highly recommended. There's plenty to do in the surrounding areas and we look forward to returning again in the warmer months.

Amazing country retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cottage, not only was it clean , lovely and warm , but it had a lovely charm created by the owners Ali and Kate. We arrived to warm scones and cream and jam, and a wonderful bottle of prosecco as a Xmas treat, there was a lovely Xmas tree in the lounge decorated very tastefully, our dogs felt at home straight away, the animals on the farm were gorgeous and it felt so welcoming to walk in the surrounding areas, we visited ilfracombe, we had lunch at pack of cards Combe Martin,, I would highly recommend and we enjoyed evenings with candles in the cottage. Would highly recommend Great Lily Cottage ,, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the cottage was most welcome , we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely return, Ali and Kate did everything to make our stay perfect , even turning up with sage and onion stuffing on Christmas Day when I realised I had forgotten ours, our student from Switzerland loved the window seat and sat and read her books and we relaxed on the comfy beds with beautiful bedding . Incredibly peaceful country retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Well what can I say, the property itself was lovely and just off the beaten track. Surrounded by fields and fields some with animals (alpacas, horses and sheep to be precise). We were greeted by two beautiful Himalayan Mountain Dogs followed shortly by Kate and Ali. Upon entering the lovely characterful house there were three beautiful hand made scones with Devonshire cream and jam of course. The whole place has been recently refurbished to a lovely standard, the furnishings were very comfortable, especially the bed and pillows!!! Everything that we needed for the stay was there and we loved every minute of it. Shops were only just over a mile away and Barnstaple town centre was under a 10min drive away! Funniest part was going to leave and seeing the two Pigmy Goats outside the bedroom door eating the Xmas decorations!

Thanks to Ali, Kate, the dogs and goats for being great hosts!

Beautiful cottage and location

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a stunning location and what a lovely cottage. This has to be the cleanest holiday cottage we have ever stayed in with everything we needed thoughtfully provided. Although we didn't meet Ali and Kate, as they were also away, they were kind enough to keep in touch by email to check everything was ok.

We cannot fault it - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and thought both the cottage and location were incredible. Thank you for having us!! We cannot recommend it too highly!
