Great Lilly Cottage is an historic 2 bedroom barn conversion sleeping 4, recently renovated to a high standard and nestled in a peaceful and picturesque corner of North Devon. Located on the outskirts of the village of Goodleigh, this property is a perfect rural retreat; only a 15 minute drive to the white sandy beaches of Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde, yet on the edge of Exmoor National Park. A perfect base to explore the whole of North Devon; whether you're into surfing or just scenery-spotting, coastal-hiking or horse-riding. Enjoy this peaceful rural setting that's only 5 minutes drive from the historic market town of Barnstaple, which has a wide range of amenities and tourist attractions. Great Lilly Cottage forms part of Great Lilly Farm where the owners, Kate & Ali live with their family and assorted menagerie including Pygmy Goats, Pigs and Chickens. The cottage is a 3 storey renovated barn with its own private parking and extensive & enclosed gardens - and being animal lovers, we happily accept well-behaved pets. Please note, although on 3 levels, the cottage is open plan with both bedrooms opening onto the central staircase.

About Ali & Kate Fenton

Hello, we are Kate & Ali. We live with our 2 children and growing menagerie of animals at Great Lilly Farm, adjacent to our newly renovated holiday barn - Great Lilly Cottage.

We've always loved this part of the country and moved down from Scotland a while back to find a more outdoor way of life. We have chickens, pygmy goats, pigs, dogs & cats and we're hoping to make our own honey this summer.

We love living here - where else would you find foxes, badgers and Buzzards all making their homes in your garden?!

If you love the countryside, long walks, beautiful sandy beaches and cosy country pubs - this is the place for your next holiday.

For young families, we have many tourist attractions on our doorstep including Exmoor Zoo, The Big Sheep and Combe Martin Dinosaur Park.

We are also only a short drive from Exmoor National Park offering you spectacular walks, horse rides or safe cycling.

Outside: The outside space at Great Lilly Cottage is particularly picturesque with uninterrupted views towards rolling hills from just outside your door. To make the most of the sunshine, there are 2 outside seating areas; a large dining & BBQ area adjacent to the kitchen and a wooden balcony that wraps externally around the middle floor of the cottage; perfect for late afternoon drinks. We also have a hammock set up in the garden to make the most of the amazing views. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and linen plus tea towels and dishcloths are all provided in the price. All beds made up. End of stay cleaning included in price. Beach towels can be provided if needed. All utilities included in price. Dogs no extra charge.

Lovely stay

We were greeted by Kate and Ali who had made scones and bought us clotted cream jam, milk and eggs. There was four of us staying with two dogs and the enclosed garden was a bonus for them. The weather was fantastic and we had a lovely time. We sat outside for most of the week and had a few barbeques, Lovely setting and very helpful owners who are very unobtrusive unless you need help. Very comfortable beds. Highly recommended.

Good location for us

This property is just on the eastern edge of Barnstable. We stayed here with our granddaughter for one week. This is a good location to reach most of the places in the area. The main priority for us was the beach and eating out. We went to Putsborough beach which has good facilities, but its a 40min drive from this property, the worse part is the last few miles down narrow and sometimes busy lanes. But in our view worth it.This year the parking charge is £8.50 for the day, so don't go to visit for a couple of hours, we tended to get there by 10am and leave about 4pm.

We visited The Big Sheep, Exmoor Zoo this time not having been there before, both fine and a good day out.

Eating out we went twice to the Williams Arms at Braunton, once to Sawmills between Ilfracombe and Coomb Martin and once to the local New Inn at Goodleigh, this is really good food, but mainly for the adults (see their web site)

If we came again to this area we would stay at this property again.

Quiet backwater, lovely and peaceful

Really enjoyed our stay here. Close enough for trips to beautiful coastline but just far enough off the beaten track for complete tranquility. Well equipped cottage, cosy yet stylish. Husband very pleased with Bose speaker. Our dogs enjoyed the garden. Lovely seeing alpacas each day. Thank you guys for making our stay so comfortable 😀

Lovely cottage, nice location!

Lovely clean, well-equipped cottage, just outside Barnstaple - great base for exploring North Devon. The owners are lovely and made us feel very welcome. Would possibly recommend to those with slightly older kids (perhaps not toddlers) as bedrooms are separated by a first floor living/dining/kitchen area (master on ground floor, twin room on 2nd floor). Would definitely stay again - had a great time!!! 😀

Great facilities and lovely location

We have just returned from spending a great week at Kate & Ali's place. On arrival Kate met us and provided us with a welcome cream tea made by Ali. The cottage has great facilities and the beds are really comfortable. On the drive in we passed their 9 Alpacas which are lovely creatures. We enjoyed sitting on either of the 2 balconies taking in the sun with a nice glass of wine. Although in the country it is close to Barnstaple with its various amenities. All in all a great week thanks to Kate & Ali.

Lovely little cottage in the countryside

Ali and Kate were very welcoming and unobtrusive but on hand if needed. Cream tea was an unexpected surprise and very tasty.

The accommodation was clean and well equipped for a long weekend away in the countryside, and an ideal location to explore North Devon.

Booking Notes:
We ask for a 30% deposit with the remainder being due 8 weeks before the holiday. Please note that failure to pay the remainder sum will be construed as a cancellation. (Refund policy available on request.)
Out of season we can be flexible about arrival/ departure dates and times.

Changeover Day:
Our usual changeover day is Friday for weekly lettings. Departure time is 10 am, arrival usually at 3pm, however sometimes this is negotiable. We will consider long weekend bookings out of high season.

Notes on prices:
Prices are based on a Friday to Friday weekly letting.
