About Carol Dickinson

We took a two year career break to fulfill a dream we'd had for several years. We bought an old stone barn for renovation and set off in June 2007 with an old caravan and two cats in tow.

Many laughs, new friends and slightly better French than when we arrived, we sadly had to return to reality and come back to the UK to go back to work.

Carol Dickinson purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Carol Dickinson chose Ger

Beautiful scenic area. Tranquil, yet near enough to attractions for a day out.

What makes this cottage unique

Access to the property from the UK is fantastic - with Caen ferry port only 1 hour 20 mins away. Cherbourg and St Malo within 2 hours and Dinard airport only an hour and a half away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

An amazing break in beautiful surroundings.

We arrived at La Prise Boulay and instantly felt at home. All mod cons allowed for a very comfortable and cosy stay, as we made the most of the log burner on the cooler nights and the BBQ during the warm, sunny days!

The cottage is decorated beautifully and is light, airy and spacious, whilst the views across the gardens are amazing. Its so conveniently located, with several villages and towns just a short drive away.

We particularly enjoyed stargazing at night. With no light pollution nothing spoilt the view. Never seen a sky like it....

My only disappointment was having to leave! Looking forward to another visit soon, will definitely be booking again!

Perfect for a family with children

We stayed here with our three young children and found it perfect. The photos don't do it justice and when we arrive d found it charming, clean and spacious. It is completely quiet here and right in the heart of the countryside. The garden is large and enclosed so the kids can play safely to their hearts content and make as much noise as they like. There is a washer and dryer, so again perfect for a family. There is even Freeview with Cbeebies channel!

We travelled around quite a bit and found it a good base to explore Normandy. Its nice to take a picnic and go and laze at on of the lakes in the area, where they have nice walks and "beaches" We would stay here again and happily recommend it to anyone.

Idyllic countryside setting.

We have visited here several times now and have found each time that we don't want to leave! The house is beautiful, in a picturesque location, perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday. The house was clean and spacious and the hosts were very generous in supplying us with wine and goodies after the long journey.

There is so much to do in the area, a visit to Mont St Michelle is a must!

Local walks are fabulous, including Fosse Arthour and Les Grande et Petit Cascades.

A big thank you to Carol and Steve. We will be returning for many years to come.

Beautiful, home from home everything you need and set in the lovely countryside.

A big thank you to Carol for letting us stay in her beautiful Gite for a week. Also a big thank you to Pauline for the welcoming gifts that was awaiting us when we arrived. The wine, cheese and biscuits went down well and it was especially nice to have a roaring fire when we arrived. The gite has everything you need. Our 4 children enjoyed the big garden with the swings and we even played badminton. The property is situated in a great location. There is plenty of places to go nearby. We can't wait to come back and stay again. We have been coming to France for the pass 6 years and this has been our favourite. Once again a big thank you for making our holiday a lovely one. Great gite in a rural location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our week's stay at this gite with our two grandchildren. It is an ideal base for visiting lower Normandy and its attractions. The welcome gift of wine, cheese and baguette was much appreciated after a long journey from the UK.

The gite is a credit to Carol and Steve and all the hard work that they have put into it, the layout and the finish is excellent, with a log burning fire if it is cold in the evening to keep you warm and internet to keep in touch with the family at home.

If you have children Festyland - a fun park at Caen - is well worth a visit, as is the zoo at Jurques

I would have no problem in recommending this gite and hope to return in the future.

Pauline your contact at the gite is a star, she is very welcoming and helpful.

A beautiful gite in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the gite using the very easy to follow instructions that Carol kindly provided. The fire was roaring, there was wine, bread and cheese waiting for us. Pauline was great, checking that we had everything we needed and to answer any questions that we had.

The gite was lovely, brilliantly equipped, lovely bright and airy rooms and beautifully decorated. Would highly recommend, for families or couples alike.

Great coastal places to visit are within easy reach. The somber WW2 beaches and museums are 90 mins away. Mont St Michel with its fantastic history, great cafe's and shops is a must see. The medieval castle at Domfront and the Petit and Grand Cascade in the local town of Mortain are fabulous for the days when you want to stay closer to home. Fosse Arthour (apparently the resting place for King Arthur?) has a homely auberge with great food and magnificent walks around the lake/mountain.

Dinard airport - 1hr 30mins

Caen Ferry port - 1hr 20mins

Le Havre and Cherbourg - 2 hrs
