Home comfort and convenience in a beautiful locale

  • 5 of 5

Home from home comfort and convenience in a beautiful location. Proximity to the plateau and the lake, as well as gorgeous and challenging walks from the doorstep and being able to nip down to the village for the bakery and shop were obvious benefits of the location of the house. The house has fabulous views of the surrounding mountains, particularly from the balcony where we loved to eat breakfast watching the sun rise between the peaks. The large kitchen/dining/living room and separate TV/living room provided plenty of space for us all to enjoy being together and apart without our teenagers retreating to their (also spacious) bedrooms. Highly recommended!

A spacious retreat, in the mountains.

  • 4 of 5

This is just a lovely home at the foot of the alps, short drive to Annecy but far enough to get that rural feeling.

Lots of Space for both adults (4) and Kids (2). The House is very well equipped, only drawback was the garden, which is a bit small, but then again there is so much to see in the area that we didn't have any use for it anyway.

The Owner is very kind, and gave lots of information on the area, little secrets and general "what to do" info.

The Mountains are your back yard and the Annecy town and Lake are just great, lots of water activities on the lake, and although the town is very

touristy, it doesn't feel that way, it has a relaxed feel to it.

Great location if you plan trips to the High Alps (Mont Blanc) or Lyon, and also only a short drive from Geneva.

I can only recommend this place, we will probably go back there ourselves in a not to distant future.

Beautiful setting in the hills

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was spacious, clean and well equipped. Louise was very helpful, as was her dad who both gave us ideas of things to do and places to go. The nearby village has two tempting patisseries, a supermarket, chemist and pizza restaurant. There is plenty to do locally but it's also ideally located for exploring. We visited Lake Annecy, the glacier at Chamonix, the nearby Glières Plateau and a water park near Geneva.

It was our first time to France and it did take a bit of getting used to but if you are accustomed to the language and the roads then you will love this place.

Stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 7 idyllic days in peace and tranquillity with gorgeous mountain views and woodland walks. Yet it is only a short drive to Annecy with its restaurants, markets, shops and lake. Birds of prey sweep across skies at dizzying heights around the mountains and a woodland walk into Thorens Glieres took us past waterfalls and mountain streams. The hot sun was wonderful on the terrace even in April yet one morning we awoke to find snow on trees, roofs and hilltops which was magical. This did not last so that a drive into Annecy allowed us to walk around the lake and take a boat trip. We would definitely go there again because we could enjoy not only the gorgeous natural woodland surroundings yet still drive to experience the night life and shopping available in Annecy. The well equipped accommodation means you can cook, the wonderful food found in the Annecy markets as well as having room for everyone to relax. The best of all worlds - the benefits of the countryside yet the town-life only a short drive away. Wonderful.

Great house, helpful and friendly host

  • 5 of 5

My family of 7 stayed at this home in April of this year. We found it to be well appointed and spacious for our 5 kids and ourselves. It is a decent drive outside of Annecy, so having a rental car is a must. However, once you're there, you feel very welcome and can fully relax. It is located on the side of a hill below the Plateau des Glieres, which is a wonderful place to go and hike. The house has 3 full bedrooms and a fourth sleeping area with a futon. We spent the majority of our time in the open kitchen and living room area.

Our host, Louise, could not have been more gracious and helpful. We actually arrived by taxi, and she met us at the house with snacks and drinks and then drove me all the way into Annecy to pick up my rental car. She went out of her way to insure our time there (8 days) went well. From the house, it was an easy drive into Annecy or back to Switzerland. We also made a day trip to northern Italy. Most of our dinners were made in the kitchen which was well equipped and laid out.

We would recommend this home to families and travelers who are looking for some peace and quiet yet still would like to be in driving distance to Lake Annecy or Geneva. If we plan a return trip to the area, we would absolutely look to stay here again.

From the Owner

We bought this property 4 years ago as we love the area and wanted to have easy access to a house in the country side but with an airport accessible, under 40 minutes, so we could use at long weekends as well as holidays. We also wanted to live in a real village that is also close to amenities. Thorens Glieres has given us this with its easy access using easy jet to Geneva and having both winter and summer activities with ski resorts near and beautiful Lake Annecy only 20 minutes away.
