Outrun Nook Barn is a little bit special, tucked away down a meandering country lane with views of the fells, the setting is picturesque and peaceful, but despite its rural location the barn is only a 10 minute drive to Bowness/Windermere with many fabulous pubs and restaurants in the local vicinity. The barn really is a home away from home. The large living area has a very cosy feel and the open plan living makes it a relaxed and easy place to spend time with family and friends. There's plenty of room to catch up, watch TV, have a glass of wine or a cup of tea and stretch out after a long days walking.Originally a Westmoreland bank barn, the conversion makes the most of the high vaulted ceilings and original beams. The open plan living space is set out over two levels with a beautiful oak gallery framing the large open plan living area. Choose one of the large comfy sofas and relax in front of the wood burning stove or unwind on the patio overlooking the fells (blankets are provided as the temperature cools). Whatever your preference Outrun Nook allows you to escape and forget the outside world. But if you're tucked up in the warm as the sun goes down, you have Sky, Sky Sports and Sky Box Sets to entertain you. The kitchen is situated on the gallery level and is very much at the heart of things with a birds eye view of the lounge below and the dedicated reading area and desk opposite. It's been handmade specifically for the barn to ensure everything is to hand and of the highest quality. The traditional layout of the barn also provides some added privacy and some quiet space with a bedroom and bathroom on each floor. On the ground floor there's also a separate snug with a window seat overlooking the lane and fields, a sofa and TV. The gravelled garden is accessed through tall french doors with table and chairs on the patio so you can enjoy the views. You may be lucky and see the resident barn owl hunting over the field at dusk or just look up and be amazed by the stars as they shine in the absence of street lighting. For outdoor activities the barn is situated on the Dalesway trail and offers some excellent walking and cycling right from the doorstep plus Windermere golf club is just one mile down the road. About Lee Powell

Having holidayed in the Lakes for many years we made the decision to move to Windermere last year. After 24 years living in London we’ve returned home, to the North West to enjoy the walks, the food, the people and yes the weather too! The first time we saw Outrun Nook, tucked away and nestled amongst the fields, it had us hooked. And it hasn't disappointed, the views are beautiful, the walking is great and when there's a good pub at the end of it they're even better! The dogs now think we're just living in one big field and are bounding with joy. Yet despite the lovely feeling of remoteness here I know Bowness is just at the bottom of the road for when we fancy a latte or a good meal out. Living here we really are lucky enough to have the best of both worlds. This year we’ll be exploring the area and getting to grips with the country life but we already feel right at home.

Notes on accommodation: As this is a traditional barn conversion the bedrooms are on different floors, allowing privacy but may not be suitable for very young children who are used to sleeping near to their parents. In addition to the main staircase there are a few steps throughout the property that may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm. Outside: There are table and chairs at the front of the property, overlooking the quiet lane and the stream, which catch the morning sun. The French doors at the back of the Barn open onto a private fenced off garden that gets the afternoon and evening sun and overlooks the surrounding countryside and fells. Utility Room: Washer/dryer, large sink, clothes drying racks, toilet, recycling bins and secure storage for bikes and golf clubs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedding and Towels Bed linen provided plus one bath and one hand towel per person, plus bath mats, tea towels, oven gloves, dishcloths, dishwasher tablets and laundry liquid for reasonable use Other: Along the gallery you’ll find a large leather chair by the bookcase and a desk with free wifi access. Large French windows open on to the rear patio area with garden table and chairs.

Perfect holiday home

I took my wife to this lovely country house for her birthday. It was ideal as it was only a 10 min drive to Windermere. The converted barn was just perfect with everything you needed. Log fire was on most of the time as the weather was cold and wet. Lee also provided us with extra toys to keep our son entertained. This is a perfect example on how a holiday home should be run. Lovely Barn conversion, great location

Lovely Barn Conversion, very clean, with everything you need. It's tucked away in beautiful countryside, down a single track road, but still close to Bowness and lots of good places to eat out. We did walks from the front door several days. Lovely to hear the owl come into the roof space to roost at night and watch the swallows. Stayed with our 2 boys aged 13 & 16 great layout meant they had their own space and TV with DVD player and WiFI!! Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again.

An absolute gem of a cottage, superb in every way

A beautiful and very special place to stay - we loved everything about the cottage. From the breathtaking double height living room with its huge comfy sofas, to the perfectly appointed kitchen, and the 2 separate sleeping areas, it surpassed our expectations.

Everything has been thought of and provided for the guests, making it a real home from home. Books galore (I was introduced to Colm Toibin's lovely writing for the first time), DVDs too (but in spite of this and the huge TV we didn't even turn it on during our stay), Wifi, everything you need in the kitchen, (including dishwasher tablets and dishcloths, something which is so often overlooked), lovely fluffy white towels, plenty of coat-hangers, a hairdryer .... I could go on!

We were very impressed by how spotlessly clean everything was - a sore point with us as we have stayed at holiday cottages where we had to clean up before we could unpack :(. The owners clearly lavish lots of care and thought into the cottage.

I should also mention the uber-dog-friendliness of this cottage - bowls and towels provided, as well as a very convenient porch and outhouse area where you can clean your dog before they come in (beware of swallows diving overhead!)

We were entertained by the sound of the owls in the roof space in the evening, though sadly we didn't catch a glimpse of them during our stay.

The weather was the only thing which could have made our stay even better, but as it was, we enjoyed the proximity of the cottage to the attractions of the Lakes (just a short drive from the rural isolation of the cottage), and enjoyed too the abundance of walks from the doorstep, and of course the lovely views in every direction.

The cottage was perfect for us - a couple, mother-in-law, and one dog. Plenty of space and nice to have the bedroom/bathrooms on different floors.

Thank you so much for a lovely stay - we will be back!

Heavenly

Our family had the most wonderful week, staying at Outrun Nook. The barn is amazing, with every comfort and the most fantastic views of the beautiful surroundings. It felt so tranquil to sit by the beck, and watch and listen to the lambs and horses in the nearby fields. The nesting swallows in the porch, and the family of owls in the loft all helped to make you feel close to nature, and away from the daily routine. With Bowness only a few miles away my wife and daughters were also very happy to explore the local shops and cafes. We explored several of the lovely nearby towns, and even made it down to the depths of the impressive White Scar caves at Ingleton, and up to the top of the Blackpool Tower. A week of special family memories !

The property was well situated, with wonderful views, two sunny terraces.

Inside the rooms were well furnished in character with the area but modern with a great log fire and full central heating . The two bathrooms well equipped with great showers , one over a bath.

The is extensive equipment and cooking facilities . Overall a great experience. We hope to visit again later this year .

- For fabulous pubs try the Wild Boar Inn, The Brown Horse Inn, Masons Arms, The Plough at Lupton, The Boathouse, The Watermill at Ing, the list goes on.
