About this property

Casa do Rio is a granite style house in Venade, a small and peaceful village in the Minho region, Portugal. Near Moledo Beach it's the perfect refuge to share with familly or friends and enjoy its pool or the beaches, rivers and mountains nearby.

Near Caminha Village, it's the perfect place to rest after surfing in Afife (15km), mountain biking in Cerveira (15km), rafting in the Coura river or simply a day under the sun at Moledo beach. The private pool is 6x12 with a very large and nice garden with fruit trees. With a Barbecue and a granite table outside, you can savor your meals in the sun or in it's sunblind shade.

4 double bedrooms with twin beds.

2 bathrooms in the 1st floor with bath, toilet and bidet.
1 bathroom in the ground floor.

Kitchen:
Nice and traditional kitchen, made partially on stone; includes fridge freezer, hob gas and electric, deep-fat fryer, microwave, dishwasher etc.

Utility Room:
Washing machine, Ironing board and iron. Drying rails.

Living Rooms:
Large living/sitting room with fireplace looking onto the garden and pool. Hi-fi, TV (Satellite), DVD.

Cleaning/Towels/Linen/Maid service:
Linnen, tea towels and bathtowels are available and changed once a week. Unless advised to the contrary there will be no cleaning during your stay.

Comfortable beautiful country house and garden

When we arrived we were struck by the beautiful garden and views and the inviting pool. It took about 5 mins in the car to get to Caminha where there were several good restaurants.We visited Ponte de Lima ,Serra d’Arga , and Viana do Castelo ,went surfing at Alfife and kayaking on the Minho river. The house was rustic but very comfortable and well equipped with good WiFi and cable TV- we were a family with older children in their teens and early twenties who were looking to relax and I think everyone had a great time !

Great location and property

The house is beautiful and the grounds are even better. There are good views of the surrounding countryside from the house and garden. The pool is a very good size and in very good condition. The garden has several mature fruit trees. There is a handy separate building containing the washing machine which I also used as my bike store. The house is a short drive from Caminha, which is one of our favourite towns in the area. Although in a village, the house is effectively walled, so you can be as insular as you want. There is good access to the beaches and Atlantic coast and direct access to Serra D'Arga. There are great mountain river swimming spots on the Rio Coura and elsewhere. For all this you need a car. It is a good base for cycling into Serra D'Arga if you don't mind proper Portuguese hills. If hills are not your thing then it is easy to connect to the Ecovia and Ecopista (local walking/cycling track along the coast and Minho) for entirely flat cycling (but rule#5 if you want any respect here). Internet is good, plenty of TV's including Internet TV access (in sitting room) as well as Terrestrial TV on other TVs. There is no A/C but the house is solid stone and was built to stay cool if properly ventilated. The kitchen is very well stocked with cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. In fact there may be almost too much cutlery.

Fantastic rural home from home and so close to a great wee town and a superb beach.

Eight of us, including 4 kids, stayed in July for one week and had a great time. The house is fantastic with a super relaxed feel and had everything we needed plus some we weren’t expecting (grapefruit and lemon trees for breakfast and g&ts). The village is a 10 min drive from Caminha and 15 mins from Moledo beach. Caminha has some great bars and restaurants and there was a beer festival and a circus in town when we were there. The owners are lovely and extremely helpful. We highly recommend this property.

Lovely house with fantastic pool

We had a 2 week stay at Casa Rio in August. The house is huge and is incredibly well equipped from the kitchen, to beach brollies, DVDs and indoor games if the weather is not good. The owner is also very helpful and contacted us several times during our stay to make sure that everything was going okay. The biggest benefit of the property is the fantastic pool and huge garden that we made full use of when the weather was good (unfortunately the weather was not consistently good for our stay). The property was clean and well maintained although we all found that the beds were a bit hard for our liking (although we have also found that elsewhere in Portugal). To stay at this property a car is definitely required as there are no shops or restaurants within walking distance, (the only outlet in Venade is one very small cafe). When going to this area it felt like we had found the real Portugal as there were few non-Portugese tourists in the area. During the evenings the centre of Caminha was buzzing with plenty of people around to give a nice atmosphere. Our favourite eateries in Caminha were Baptista and 53 Avenida (a Pastelaria). Although helped by the current exchange rate the cost of living in this area was very cheap (e.g. 4 drinks and 4 big pastries for 8 Euros). We went to the beach at Moledo which is lovely although the sea was freezing, there we also found a Cafe called Paredao 476 which we would definitely recommend both for the views at sunset and the food. Another place worth a visit is Vila Nova De Cerveira which is a charming town with a really nice central square. Our favourite restaurant here was La Scarpetta which was a good quality Italian.
