About Simone Neri

As a child I spent many wonderful holidays in Alnmouth with my family. When I became a mother I could think of nowhere better to raise my children than here. I now live near Alnmouth with my two children Isabella and Matteo. There is so much to do in the area - we spend most of our time on the beach having bonfires and BBQs . I am an outdoors person and love walking and cycling...& have even tried surfing!

I already have a successful holiday let in Alnmouth called Sefton House (sleeps 14) and have the caravans situated near to Waterside called Estuary View Caravans. Waterside is situated across from Alnmouth - it is where my children love to dive down the huge sand dunes head first on boards! I'm sure you will all love being here - it is quite magical!

Simone Neri purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Simone Neri chose Alnmouth

Waterside is such a special area and the views are spectacular in all seasons. The sea and the beaches are gorgeous and this is where I have spent hours and hours with my children and friends. Alnmouth, which is a 5 minute drive in the car has a lovely grocery store, gift shop, pubs and eating places.

Walking, surfing, fishing, canoeing, sailing, cycling, bird watching and golfing are just some of the pursuits which are on the doorstep.

You do feel that you have stepped back in time to an old fashioned beach holiday and this is where the uniqueness steps in.

The area is very accessible by car or train but you do feel as though the crowds and the city are a million miles away.

What makes this cottage unique

Waterside is a place of calm and tranquillity , accessed only by a private driveway down to the waters edge. The outside area has uninterrupted views of the spectacular village of Alnmouth village and the magnificent Northumberland coastline, designated as an area of natural outstanding beauty. The cottages are very close to the coastline cycle route. Bikes can be hired and dropped off at an additional fee.

Home from home

Lovely cottage with the most amazing views of Alnmouth and beautiful beach walks. Caretakers for the holidays Carolyn and Paul were really helpful and informative - thank you so much.

The only point I would highlight is that Alnmouth itself is 40mins walk from the cottage so a car or bikes are in my opinion essential -there's a super cycle path into the village and we didn't find this a problem.

Northumberland has everything, beaches, pretty villages, seals, puffins and lots of castles - just fabulous.

Comfortable But Highly Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Waterside View, with our aging dog, during the last week in July 17. The cottage is very spacious, the furnishings comfortable and it was presented in a clean and attractive way. However, the rental looks 'well used' with loose door furniture broken/missing fridge shelving and maybe the kitchen was well stocked with crockery/utensils at some point but I think any group larger than two people would struggle to 'eat in'. There is a 40 min walk into Alnmouth (mostly along a cycle path) where there are some excellent restaurants. In the opposite direction there should be a 15 min walk to the beach. Unfortunately at the time of our visit the footpath was totally overgrown and impassable. It is possible to get across a farmer's field which then provides access to the beach across sand dunes as long as it's not near high tide (the beach is very good). The reason we booked the cottage was for the advertised exceptional view of Alnmouth across the estuary. This does not exist from the cottage (if you are not interested in the view you can stop reading now). Waterside View is one of three cottages marketed together which claimed to have a direct view of Alnmouth. Certainly Waterside View does not have this view. There are four windows in the property, one each in bedroom one and two and two in the lounge. All face onto a property which I believe is called "The Old Sawmill" - this is directly between Waterside View and Alnmouth, obstructs any view and makes Waterside View very dark inside. If one walks away from the cottage there is a green area from where one can see the view - this is directly in front of the other two marketed properties. Not unexpectedly the weather was very poor during our visit which combined with the stark view from the property and restricted light did not make a pleasant experience during the day in the cottage. The owner has changed the website to more accurately reflect what is on offer and has given us compensation. However, to us the cottage was a huge disappointment and did not represent what was originally advertised.

An excellent base for exploring Northumberland and its coast

  • 5 of 5

Waterside View is a spacious, well furnished and well equipped property in a quiet spot overlooking the Aln estuary. The two bedrooms and bathrooms are extremely comfortable and the kitchen has all that you need for self catering. The cottage was beautifully clean and tidy when we arrived and were greeted by Simone. It is close to the beach - along a footpath - but some distance from the bus stop, railway station and village; so we needed the car, for which there is good and easy parking.

Lovely cottage in great location!

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed a very relaxing 5 days at Waterside View. Simone was very friendly and helpful and all was as described. Everything worked!! The cottage is in a fabulous location with so much to do and see in the area. Almouth is a charming town with 2 wonderful dog-friendly beaches, some good pubs/restaurants/ tea rooms offering above-average food, an interesting art gallery and a terrific 9-hole golf course- something for everyone!

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The quiet long sandy beach is only a 10 minute walk away & is perfect for a romantic picnic or stroll - its an ideal place to get away from it all. The South Side Beach is famous for its huge sandy dunes where children can go running down and play hide and seek.

There is also the beach at Alnmouth which is on the other side of the River Aln and is a 5 minute car journey . The beaches around Waterside are absolutely breathtaking and they are one of the finest in Northumberland .

Travel:

The nearest airport is Newcastle International Airport approx. 45 minutes drive away. Alnmouth train station is a 10 minute drive and is located on the main North Eastern Line providing links to Newcastle, local towns such as Berwick and Morpeth & further afield such as Edinburgh & York and London.

Distances:

The nearby town of Alnwick is a 10 minute drive away & is dominated by the medieval Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The castle , open to the public , found fame as the setting for the Harry Potter movies. Also located here is The Alnwick Gardens, a spectacular new garden within the castle grounds, also features water displays, a newly open pavilion and the largest tree house in Europe.

Further Details:

Alnmouth and Walkworth have a number of great cafes, pubs & restaurants. Both of the villages have post offices and local grocer shops. Alnwick has a range of high street shops, supermarkets and banks.

Waterside also offers an in house chef if requested in advance . Great for special meals and memorable occasions.
