Looking for a place to stay near Southwold, Beccles, Walberswick, Minsmere or the Norfolk Broads? Want to experience the glorious Suffolk Heritage Coastline and explore renowned attractions such as Southwold Beach, the Latitude festival, Snape Maltings, Minsmere Nature Reserve and Dunwich Heath? Or maybe just a relaxing break in the Suffolk sun? Greengage Cottage is available for you all year round in fantastic grounds. Approached down a long drive and away from the road. In a quiet setting, the cottages back onto the farm's orchard and are very private surrounded by hedges and trees. For the wildlife enthusiast, we have barn owls, little owls, tawny owls and plenty of other varieties including warblers and birds of prey. Located on the National Cycle Route and with ample parking, a local village shop and pub are just a mile away. In addition to the weekly rates listed, please note that subject to availability, short breaks of 3 or 4 days are offered.

About the Owner

My name is Nick and I live with my wife, Ruth, and our labradoodle, Paddington in the main farm house at Low Farm, where The Old Orchard Cottages are situated.

We moved to Suffolk in 2015 from Cobham in Surrey with the plan to run our holiday cottages and set up a specialist nursery and therapy centre for children with autism. This is located on site but away from the cottages.

We are friendly and helpful and look forward to welcoming you to The Old Orchard in the not too distant future.

We bought Low Farm as it had the size and facilities we were looking for whilst being in a fantastic all round location. We love the rural, tranquil nature of the countryside surrounding the farm, which makes you feel like you are really getting away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life. Combine that with being a 15 minute drive from the lovely seaside town of Southwold, with its pier and beach and a host of other amenities all within striking distance. We also benefit from being just off the A12, which makes us easily accessible to all our guests and visitors.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

We are just 8 miles away from the coastal towns of Southwold and Walberswick, Aldeburgh is 20 miles.

Distances:

The traditional market towns of Halesworth and Bungay are 5 miles away whilst Beccles, southern gateway to the Norfolk Broads and offering boat hire, lies 7 miles away. To the East, our cottage accommodation near Southwold and its elegant seaside delights, are a step back to a more elegant time and reflect the unchanged nature of this friendly part of Suffolk.

Further Details:

The accommodation provides access to the farm which is fully accessible for rambling and nature watching, with wide wild natural field margins.

Fine attractions including RSPB Minsmere, cycle hire in Dunwich, fishing, riding and golf, can all be found within a 9 mile radius of our Suffolk cottage accommodation. Slightly further afield visitors can explore a number of castles, stately homes and family attractions such as miniature railways, fun fairs and country fairs.

The local shop is 1 mile (easy walking) from the cottages as is the local friendly pub which also does good food.

For the gourmet, the attractions of the area include fabulous fish restaurants such as Butley Oysterage in Orford, complete with smokeries.

For those who enjoy fine beers there is the famous Adnams of Southwold as well as St Peter's Brewery which produces traditional style beers such as 'Honey Porter' and a number of speciality beers. Adnams also has a talent for buying wines with its own wine import business and has a tremendous reputation for its own selection of sparkling and dessert wines. A visit to the Adnams wine shop in Southwold is a must!

For kids of all ages there is nothing like a walk on the beach or crabbing at Walberswick. We could go on, we love the area so much, but believe you should find out for yourselves!

Changeover Day:
Our changeover day is Friday however this can be flexible out of season.

A £150 deposit is required to confirm your booking, balance due 1 week before arrival.

The Cottages are simple but well made in a wooden chalet style. They include all the mod cons - fully equipped kitchen, bath and shower, digital TV, as well as use of a laundry room. As well as the beauty and peacefulness of the location, guests benefit from the use of a fully heated, indoor swimming pool during the Spring and Summer months. We are also in the process of creating a play area for children.

Notes:

  • The Cottages are set on a 25 acre farm and guests are very welcome to use the front fields for walking, playing etc. The main field has a lawned area for children to play in. The Owners also run a Therapy Centre, for children with autism etc, on another part of the farm. The centre includes a playground and guests may be allowed to use the playground in non therapy centre hours. Please inform the owner if this interests you. Welcome hampers are available on request. All guests are welcomed with a bottle of wine but a welcome hamper full of local produce can be provided. Typically hampers contain, milk, eggs, butter, local bacon, fresh bread, rape seed oil, luxury biscuits, speciality teas and instant coffee. Price £25
