Superb Lodge in one of my favourite areas

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed at 'Cairnyard' near Beeswing/Dumfries numerous times, it's a great location if you're a mountain biker because of the '7 Staines' rides (etc) but I go for the forests with my dogs - and there are some great forests around here, namely; Dalbeattie, Newton Stewart and Ae as well as my favourite; Mabie. If you want to drive a little further north you can easily get to Moffat forest as well. (The great thing about Scottish forests is that the various routes are always well signed with colour coded posts, so you won't get lost even if you've never been in one before)

Lapwing lodge is an excellent base from which to do the above as well as explore the D&G coastline, castles, forests, 'Sweetheart Abbey' and Dumfries itself. Lodge was lovely and clean on arrival, bed comfortable, kitchen/dining room great as was the shower/wet room. There are also many other things you'd expect or like to find in a lodge, like board games, books, good selection of DVDs, good size TV. Sofa/Chairs comfortable etc.The garden/decked patio is nice too. If like me you also enjoy watching birds there are plenty that visit the garden feeders, while I was there I was saw Blackbird, Sparrows, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Blue/Coal/Great Tits, Raven, Siskins, Chaffinch, one Woodpecker and a Woodpigeon!

The booking process / comfirmation was excellent too, dead easy to book the dates I wanted with Alison the owner / Owners Direct, and I even got an 'Is everything ok' Text on day of arrival from the owner - can't ask for more. Great experience, won't hesitate to use Lapwing Lodge again.

We'll be back...

  • 5 of 5

Great property in a location very suited to us. Excellent communication from Alison from the minute we booked. Ideal for us, two teenagers and two dogs (the garden is perfect for the dogs). Well appointed and equipped property made our stay most pleasant. Thank you very much and I hope you'll have us again.

Wonderful well equiped lodge in beautiful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our 4th stay at lapwing lodge.

We had a wonderful break again this time.

The view's from the decked area at the rear of the property are stunning. There is a farm house in the distance along with a nice view of the forest.

The forest is a lovely walk especially if you have your four legged friends with you, our 2 labradors love it.

There is enough room to park 2 cars next to the lodge.

The lodge itself is just like home from home with everthing you will need for a great holiday.

On our arrival the lodge was very highly clean as ever, a true credit to the owners.

It was a pleasure to feed the many wild birds again that are always visiting the rear garden.

All in all lapwing lodge is a very well looked after propery situated in beautiful very quiet surrounding and I would recommend to anyone to try a weeks holiday here where you can chill out & relax in comfort. We will be returning in the near future.

Really comfortable lodge with open extensive views.

  • 5 of 5

The quality and location of the lodge are excellent. Facilities and furnishings and equipment are all of quality, with comfortable seating and bed.

The location gave direct walks into the forest for the dogs, without going on the busy road. The wintry weather dictated one day out touring, - Caerlaverock, New Abbey, Dalbeattie with great scenery. Visited the tower house near Kirkgunzeon.

The only downside was that it took us 24 hours to work out that the night storage heater, hot water and shower and bathroom heater all work from off-peak electric, all have separate control switches which we did not find until the next morning and all had been turned off. It was very cosy in the evening, and the shower was great, (once we had hot water).

We would love to stay again, it's a lovely place, and hope to return.

Perfect Lodge for a holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Lapwing Lodge on several occasions, mainly to mountain bike on the 7 Stanes routes in the area. The quality of the accommodation gets better every time we go. It is warm, brilliantly equipped, nicely decorated, completely comfortable and regularly improved. Very reluctant to write a good review in case the lodge becomes too popular and you book the lodge when I want to go!!
