Coach House Cottage provides the ideal get away to the Cumbrian countryside for couples who want to celebrate or re charge their batteries. Either eat at one of the local pubs and restaurants or buy local Cumbrian produce to savour in the comfort of your own holiday cottage. Local beers are speciality of the area. Enjoy peaceful country walks around the village of Skelton, and cycle the maze of local lanes. The C2C cycle route passes close by. Penrith, Gateway to the Lake District is 7 miles away. This historic market town has an array of specialist food and gift shops along with restaurants, bars, and pubs. Ullswater and the northern fells of Blencathra and Carrock are closeby. Alternatively the quieter but equally beautiful Eden Valley, is a joy for walkers and cyclists to explore.
Here at Ginger Cottages we strive to give you a little piece of home from home. When we go away on holiday we find that there is nothing worse than arriving at your cottage and having to clean the place before you can settle down to relax! We believe you should be able to arrive, dump your bags, crack open a bottle of wine and instantly leave the cares of work and life safely behind you. We love living in the Cumbrian countryside and try every day to delight in the natural beauty of the area. We wanted to be able to share this little slice of English bliss with our guests so from the linen on the beds to the cutlery in the drawers we hope that you will find everything to your liking and enjoy a well-deserved holiday!
Nicky Higgins purchased this barn in 2012
Coach House Cottage is a delightful barn conversion in the fringe Lake District village of Skelton. Located 6 miles from Junction 41 on the M6, Coach house Cottage is in easy 2 hour driving distance of Northern England and Southern Scotland cities, making it a perfect location for both short breaks and holidays.
Coach House Cottage is tucked away in the quiet farming village of Skelton. Whilst access to the M6 is only 6 miles from Skelton, Skelton remains a very rural peaceful village with a pub, village school and infrequent through traffic.
We have just returned from a wonderful few days staying in this superb cottage. The property was immaculate, clean, superbly fitted out and just the place for a relaxing break in the countryside.
Nicky the owner, was most helpful when we checked in, and gave us good advice on where to visit and eat out.The local area is very picturesque and there are numerous walks and visitor attractions within easy distance.
We had a fantastic time and are so pleased to have discovered such a cosy, welcoming place to stay.

We are a couple that spent 3 nights on Coach House Cottage. What a break! The cottage is amazing, very clean and cozy. It's a lovely place, close to wonderful places such as Keswick or Ullswater. When we arrived, Nikki was there willing to give us all the information we needed about what to visit around the area.
It has been an amazing experience, we highly recommend this cottage!

What a wonderful stay!
Host - Firstly, our host Nicky provided a friendly and informative welcome on our arrival. The best we've had when staying at a cottage. We particularly appreciated the biscuits and fresh daffodils.
The cottage - Things we loved the most were the extremely comfy bed, the powerful hot shower, private parking for your car by the front door, warm rooms throughout, the teeny cute dishwasher and cosy blankets to snuggle up with whilst watching TV.
Location - Great base to explore the Lakes from and close to the M6. We went to Keswick and Penrith. Although the weather wasn't great during our stay, the cosy cottage was a delight to be in during the rain.
We'd like to stay again!

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas this year, the cottage had everything we could possibly need and provided a cosy sanctuary for our 4 night stay. I can't recommend this property highly enough and the photos-inviting as they certainly are-really don't do the house justice. Thankyou Nicky, we definitely hope to return.
My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights , it's a cosy modern cottage that has everything you need , in a beautiful part of the country
We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed our mini-break. The cottage is fully equipped, comfortable and warm. Unfortunately, we didn't meet Nicky as we kept missing each other during our stay but there was lots of information about the cottage and local attractions, which helped us plan our stay. The cottage was a perfect place to celebrate my birthday, thank you Nicky.
Great little place, really cosy and very nicely finished interior. The only downside for us was the pub next door has closed down
Very comfortable 5 star cottage, there was nothing left wanting! Well situated within the area, it was close to all we wanted to see. Nicky was very welcoming and efficient in all the information she gave us on our arrival. Couldn't fault our stay.
We stayed for a week in late August and the cottage is perfectly located as a base to explore from. Short drives to the Lakes, Hadrians Wall, Carlisle and Penrith (for food shopping). Located close to the C2C cycle route (with national routes 7 and 71 close by).
It is a immaculately presented and spotless holiday cottage with all the possible amenities that you could need which represented extremely good value for the price I paid. The cottage is a perfect combination of contempary and traditional. Full fitted kitchen, with dishwasher. Utility/washroom with washing machine. Shower room and bath. Comfortable and light lounge with TV, DVD and Netflix (for those wet evenings). Fast WiFi throughout the cottage.
Nicky is a perfect host. She greeted us on arrival to explain the cottage and facilities as well as provide some local information and suggestions of walks. Nicky provided us with a welcome pack of a bottle of wine, snacks, milk, tea, coffee and ginger biscuits. There is also the "brown basket" full of tourist leaflets, walks and other information.
The Dog and Gun pub is next door - we didn't eat there but had a very friendly welcome and enjoyed a pint or two sat outside soaking up the last of the evening sunshine watching the Swallows, House Martins and Jackdaws battle it out for air supremacy !
Nicky took the time to explain some walks for us including the Ullswater Steamer walks which are stunning. Pooley Bridge is a short drive away. Plenty of parking in the field just past/behind the Sun Inn for £3 all day (look for the hand written signs by the roadside), catch the "steamer" to Howtown and walk back. The walk is featured in a print out in the brown basket.
We will very much look forward to retuning sometime soon.
