About the Owner

I live with my husband and three children in a cottage just down the track from Bartlehill Cottage. We have a smallholding and keep ponies, dogs, sheep, pigs, chickens and rabbits. On request (if you have children), you may visit the animals, which in spring time means bottle feeding baby lambs!

Where possible, we provide a basket of home produce to our guests, for example, free-range eggs and our own bacon, as well as other locally sourced goodies.

I work as a dentist and my husband works as a podiatrist in the nearby town of Kelso. We absolutely love this area and hence knew it would be a perfect place from which to base a holiday cottage.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. Our only problem was having to pack up and leave!

What a lovely cottage!

  • 5 of 5

The property was equipped with everything we needed for a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday and when we arrived we realised that it was as good as the description on owner's direct website. We took a wrong turning on the way there using our satnav - the neighbour seemed to think this is probably a normal occurrence - luckily we realised what we had done and 'retraced our steps' then went a little further on to find the correct place to turn off! Matt had sent us old directions through the farmyard which had actually changed so we did struggle a bit to get the last few yards - when we arrived at the cottage and linked into the WiFi we found that he had sent us an email that morning to tell us the new directions through the farmyard - we had left home before the email was sent and don't have internet whilst out and about! The property was very clean and extremely well maintained - the best one we have ever stayed at. Everything in it is good quality and very tastefully put together. We would recommend this property to anyone! One downside is the fact that there is nowhere to walk from the actual cottage except out the way we drove in - this seems to be because it is surrounded by farmland. There is a lane opposite which is on one of the photos on the website and we had assumed that we would be able to go for evening walks along it but it is actually private and we found that slightly disappointing. In Kelso we used a coffee shop called the Hoot and Cat which we really liked - friendly staff and nice food and not too expensive. The Chain Bridge Honey Farm is one of our old favourites and it didn't let us down again - there is lots of interesting stuff about honey and bees and also the local area. They serve lovely home baked cakes and scones from the double decker bus cafe. A bit further afield there are Berwick upon Tweed and Holy Island to explore - to avoid disappointment make sure you check the tide tables before setting off for Holy Island. We can recommend Neptune Fish Restaurant in Seahouses for a good fish and chip meal - if you want a take away and have small appetites they are willing to split one meal onto 2 trays. There are lovely beaches around Bamburgh for walks or family days out!

Just what you need

  • 5 of 5

A very well restored and surprisingly spacious and practical house. Just what you need when on holiday. Very clean property, fresh flowers on display, welcome pack. Stunning views and rural location but not too far from anywhere. Very good indeed. We'd stay again.

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

The views on the web-site do not do this Holiday Cottage the justice it deserves. Recently modernised in 2015, this Cottage has everything anyone would require for a Holiday. It felt like "Home from Home" during our stay,June11-18/2016.As soon as we walked through the front door we knew that we had made a great selection in picking this Cottage.Downstairs has been fully modernised with a open plan design and a log burning stove as well as central heating, the Kitchen had everything you could need. The Bedrooms upstairs are decorated beautifully and the beds were very comfortable.

The whole Cottage was spotless, the Owners were great and the Welcome pack was greatly appreciated especially the delicious farm eggs.

Views from all the front windows are brilliant, very nice neighbours at number 4.

The Location is ideal to visit the Scottish Borders,We visited Melrose (beautiful National Trust Gardens) Kelso/Coldstream/ Robsons Honey Farm (excellent attraction) and Hersel Gardens and Shops(found the Parking charge excessive if you were only visiting the Shops). We had a fantastic meal at the Collingwood Arms at Cornhill (Highly Recommended).

We shall be returning to this Cottage, hopefully later this year and have already recommended to our friends and relatives.

Beautiful country cottage with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to find not only a lovely cosy cottage with absolutely amazing views of the countryside but a lovely welcome basket and a fire already prepared ready for us to light, which was a lovely touch. The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our family of 5. We had a lovely week visiting family nearby and we also took a couple of trips into Edinburgh and Kelso and would recommend Harestanes Visitors Centre for anyone with children. We will definitely be returning and will be recommending this lovely cottage to our family and friends too. If there were 6 stars I would have given it 6. Spot on Matt and Amber. Thank you.
