"Two Hoots" Cottage in Hodgeston, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire National Park - Super Location For Touring, Walking, Exploring Or Just Chilling, There Is So Much On Your Doorstep

Hodgeston lies midway between historic Pembroke and lively Tenby. The cottage was built in 2005 - a conversion of the granary of Hodgeston Hall, the neighbouring Grade II listed building. Great care has been taken to empathise with its surroundings - the exterior being built of old, local limestone, whilst internally there is liberal use of exposed timber.There is plenty to do and see in this lovely part of Wales and clues to its Norman history and ancient past are all around, with the magnificent castles of Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew. Water sports, boat trips, fishing, golf or walking the coastal footpath are just a few of the holiday activities available. Freshwater and Manorbier beaches are a firm favourite with surfers and kayakers, whilst Bosherston lilly ponds provides gentle walking and excellent fishing. The award-winning Barafundle Bay is within 5 miles and if walking is your interest, the coastal footpath is at the top of the lane outside the cottage and you can hop on and off the Coastal Cruiser bus if you don't want to walk back!

Why Steve Butler chose Pembroke

We've holidayed in this part of Pembrokeshire as children, we have taken our children, visited with friends and escorted elderly relatives.

We adore the coastal paths and the beaches. Even now we find new places to explore and still enjoy the old familiar places. There is something comforting about becoming a regular visitor.

The road networks in this area are great, so getting here is no hardship.

What makes this cottage unique

"Two Hoots" is easy to find, it is close to all amenities especially the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, just a short walk away.

It is served by the Tourist Bus with stops close by. Freshwater East, a magnificent expanse of beach is a pleasant walk, with a pub on the way, or a short drive away.

Pembroke itself is a great attraction and Pembroke Dock has many retail outlets including a huge Tesco store with a fuel station.

The cottage is secure for the kids and dogs to play, it's on a quiet "access only" road with minimal traffic..

"Two Hoots" cottage is a renovated and converted outbuilding, formally part of Hodgeston Hall. It was completed around 2006 providing a modern self contained and well equipped holiday home.

We really has such a lovely time staying at Two Hoots and enjoying the Pembrokeshire countryside. Here's what we did, encase anybody with a family asks for recommendations:

We had an action packed week with great weather. On Sunday we went to Pembroke Castle, which I would recommend. I think we climbed up every step to the top of each tower and enjoyed the goodies in the nice tearooms there. We went Horse Riding in Marros, we found the leaflet on your welcome table. I would really recommend Marros as the staff we so nice and welcoming. The kids really enjoyed it. We stopped off in Saundersfoot, at The Lounge for a lovely lunch and afterwards went to the beach. FollyFarm was just fantastic and probably the highlight of our holiday, a real must for the kids, big and small. On Wednesday we lunched at the Stackpole Inn, and again had a delicious lunch. We went to Stackpole afterwards to walk in grounds, probably went a bit to far along the path as there was lots of moaning from the kids on the way back as the tired leg syndrome kicked it! But I loved the walks. Our only wet day was spend in Oakwood. It was a bit cold and miserable for the first hour or two. But we had great fun on the rollercoasters and rides. By the evening nobody wanted to go home. Our daredevil 9 year old had the best day ever! Our 4 year old initially declared that it was 'the worst day in Wales EVER'! She came round soon enough though. I was initially dubious about going to Oakwood having read some poor reviews online but I have to say we did have a great time. We eat in De Vecchi's in Tenby afterwards and it was very tasty. Friday was a trip to Barafundle.. its so beautiful there. We enjoyed the walk to that beach. During the week we also walked to Freshwater East, which we found was quite a trek with the kids, maybe its not really within walking distance with children. During our stay we also ate in Lamphey Hall. We found that while one of our meals was good value. that other was rather expensive and a bit over priced so it does depend on the time and day really. We also eat at Freshwater Inn, which was ok but not sure iI would go back. Nothing wrong but I have had taster meals.

All in All.. we had a really great time in your beautiful homely cottage. We chatted to the neighbours who were very friendly. Ive already started recommending Two Hoots, and we do hope to return again. I really haven't got anything negative to say, its all positive

Outside: To the front is a secure, gated gravel parking area suitable for 3 cars set with borders and shrubs. The rear of the Cottage is accessed by a small side gate, leading to the paved patio area with tables, (and Patio Doors from the Kitchen Diner) through to a secure walled garden. There is a lawned area edged by a pathway to a lockable bike store and set with edging plants. There is a storage Bunker containing the Patio Chairs and Umbrellas plus the garden barbie and some fuel. The extending washing line is on the side wall of the owner's garden toolshed. Utility Room: Under-counter Dishwasher, Washing Machine and Tumble Drier are there for Guest use. Cleaning equipment and materials such as cleaning fluids and paper products available. Washing line fitted to outside shed. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All beds made up ready for your arrival (duvets) and we provide towels (except beach towels) and tea towels. The Cottage is cleaned thoroughly between lets with additional, clean bed linen for 2 weeks stays. Other: Small hallway with stairs leading off by the front door, having space for muddy boots and coat hanging. Rear access to Patio and Secure Garden by a small side gate, also accessed by Double Patio doors leading from the Kitchen Diner.

A charming cottage in a perfect location.

We were in need of a relaxing holiday and that's what we had at Two Hoots! It is a beautifully furnished cottage with all the amenities you could need for a family holiday.

I was particularly pleased to have a downstairs bedroom with en suite as I am not too good on stairs, and I was closest to the kitchen for the first cup of tea in the morning!

The cottage is in a great location. The children made friends with the local cows and horses, and the cat next door. It was handy for some stunning beaches, although we didn't have perfect beach weather. There were plenty of things to do within an easy drive and we enjoyed the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside.

We had a fantastic holiday and would love to return to Two Hoots sometime soon.

Peaceful but with all you could want

Two Hoots is a beautiful cottage set in a small hamlet (and at night we did hear the owls hooting). With 3 bedrooms, (one downstairs with an en suit that my husband and I used, while 2 daughters and their kids took the upstairs), it is ideal for a stay for an extended family or for someone with a mobility issue.The cottage has everything you could want to make your stay easy and enjoyable. There is a large lounge area and big open plan kitchen and diner. It was well cleaned, had comfy beds, lovely bed linen, large fluffy towels, essential cleaning materials, dishwasher, a selection of books, and toys, TV (though the signal was not always great), DVDs, outdoor chairs and BBQ and a secure back garden. There was also free WiFi. Everything was of good quality. Our only criticism was that a larger fridge would be useful. With 4 adults and 3 kids, it was a job to fit it everything in.

Though there is nothing much in the hamlet apart from a walk to the beach (not to be recommended for those with small children or mobility difficulties), the area itself has plenty to offer those with children of all ages to entertain, particularly if the weather lets you down. The nearest beach is within short drive and has good facilities with a restaurant where we enjoyed a huge Sunday lunch and though we didn't do any other local walks ourselves, we did did see signposts in the vicinity for those feeling energetic. There was a small local Spar shop on the drive in and out which was useful for odds and ends and the large Tesco in Pembroke was easy to find following the directions in the cottage.

We would highly recommend Two Hoots cottage. It exceeded our expectations and certainly lived up to the info on the website. We would definitely re-book in the future.

Owner's Response: Hi Marian Great review thanks, and I take the point about the fridge. Its predecessor decided to break down during a 2 week let. We had the current one installed within the following morning. We didn't realise the limited capacity at that time. but it sorted out the immediate problem. It's now on the To Do List. Might just put an identical one side by side. Love to have you stay again. Most first timers realise the area offers so much to do that frequent visits are essential. One lady due later this year has been coming now for 13 years and as the family grows so does the scope of the holiday activities. Thanks again for taking the time to write the review. Bye for now. Perfect Family Friendly Cottage

We had a brilliant week in this lovely cottage in our favourite part of Wales.

On arrival we were greeted by a well equipped, spacious and clean (very important!) property which we soon settled into.

We discovered some new parts of this beautiful county and revisited a couple of our favourite places from last year - Folly Farm, Heatherton and Cafe Mor (Freshwater West) got the thumbs up from the children again. Personally, Manorbier castle and an hour boat trip to see Porpoises and Seals around Tenby were my highlights of this trip.

The cottage itself was a great place to enjoy family meals, relax and plan our daily adventures and we would not hesitate in recommending it to anybody looking to stay in the area.

Thanks again for letting us stay in your lovely cottage and also for the information in the welcome email. Hopefully, we'll be back!

Excellent week in a really comfortable, clean and well stocked cottage.

Two Hoots cottage is a lovely property. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable with a particularly good kitchen. We found the the cottage to be very clean and tidy on arrival. There's ample car parking space at the front of the property. The areas tourist attractions are all within easy reach.

Welcoming, family friendly Cottage

Two Hoots was a lovely, spacious cottage which met the needs of our family. It was located within easy reach of all the areas we wished to visit and the owners Steve and Gill were extremely welcoming and accomodating.

The garden was very secure for our toddler to play in and the stair gates provided gave extra peace of mind.

The living area and kitchen were well equipped with plenty of space for all of us.

We would definitely recommend this as a family friendly cottage . Thank you Steve and Gill.

Lovely spacious, comfortable cottage

We stayed in the cottage for three nights while we walked the South Pembrokeshire Coast path each day. It's a pretty cottage in a lovely little hamlet close to the coast. Spacious, well equipped, very clean and comfortable.

Couldn't have hoped for more.

The nearest beach is at Freshwater East, which has a good pub. It is reached by a comfortable (Restricted Access) road walk for about 20 minutes (approx 1 mile) crossing the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path before dipping down to the extensive sands. Freshwater East Bay is served by the Coastal Tripper Bus. There are numerous other sandy beaches and coves to explore if you wish to walk further or drive, including Manorbier with its Medieval Castle and Stackpole Quay which also has a Cafe.

Travel:

Nearest Airport is Cardiff and Ferries operate from Pembroke Dock.

A Car is essential for the exploration of Pembrokeshire. Sat Nav using the postcode will take you to the village. The cottage is situated further up the lane running on the right side of the church and just around the right hand turn next to Hodgeston Hall.

The nearest Railway Station is at Lamphey

Hodgeston is approx 1 mile from the villages of Freshwater East, Jameston & Lamphey, 3 from Pembroke and 7 from Tenby.

Further Details:

There are 6 pubs within a mile who all welcome children & offer good, value for money meals. There are 2 quality restaurants in Lamphey & 1 in Jameston. The nearest supermarkets are located in Pembroke (Co-op), Pembroke Dock (Asda, Tesco, Lidl). Tesco delivers to the village. Banks are in Pembroke & Tenby. Tenby is the largest town with numerous tourist attractions & lovely beaches. There are theme parks at St. Florence - Heatherton, Dinosaur Park & Manor Park. The biggest is Oakwood - about 8 miles - where you'll find a great leisure centre. Swimming pools are also in Pembroke & Tenby. Boating trips out to the offshore islands can be made from Tenby or Saundersfoot (a visit to Caldey Island to see the monastery is a must!). If history is your thing, three of the best Norman castles in Wales are within 5 miles at Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew. There is an unusual Norman church on your doorstep and a medieval palace at Lamphey.

Booking Notes:
To book your Pembrokeshire Holiday at "Two Hoots" simply go to our Website where you will find further information and our T & Cs.
Contact us by phone or email or letter if you prefer. We hold enquiries for a few days but require a 25% deposit to reserve the booking. We then invoice you for the balance which must be paid within 8 weeks of your holiday.

Our preferred payment method is by Bank Transfer, details of which can be found on the "Two Hoots" website.

Changeover Day:
Changeover Day is usually a Saturday but with short breaks we can normally be quite flexible.
Guest Arrival is at 16.30 hrs and Departure no later than 10.00 hrs.
We appreciate your help with these times as the Housekeeper is under some time constraints

Notes on prices:
If you want a break 3 days (or more) & there is a vacancy just ask us for a price if it is not listed as prices vary throughout the year.

We offer a 15% discount to couples using just one bedroom but this is outside the peak periods of school / bank holidays and only applies to weekly bookings.
