Lovely cottage, quiet and well equipped

  • 4 of 5

A lovely cottage and spacious for 2 adults and one baby. Nice and private location, not far from the big towns. Well equipped for us and baby. Clean and modern. Lounge could do with some softer lighting for those cosy winter nights, but other than that I recommend this cottage.

Wonderful 2 weeks at Welsummer Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I completely agree with the previous reviewers about this beautifully renovated barn and great location. I would add how very liveable this place is with its 2 bathrooms, open plan ground floor, a gas range for cooking (rare in rural holiday cottages in my experience) gas central heating and woodburner, although we didn't need these in August. The only thing I can think of that we would have liked was a bigger frying pan for cooking the lovely fresh fish you can get from The Old Forge Fish Shop in nearby Wadebridge, although I have no doubt the attentive owners would have provided one if I'd asked.

Another reason to stay is that Charmion and Charles have just opened their wonderful new venture on the same site....The Poultry Patch....where you can see their incredible collection of rare breed chickens and learn all about the history, biology and life cycles of these diverse birds. I thought our children at 11 and 13 would be too old to appreciate this but they have created an educational experience for all ages and have clearly done so with a great passion for their subject. The cottages are tucked away nicely on the lovely site and we enjoyed hearing the contented crowing of their very well cared for birds in the morning...not intrusive but a lovely way to realise you are in the countryside and away from it all.

The Poultry Patch also houses a couple of donkeys, some geese, ducks and rabbits. It would make a great half day out if you are in the Padstow / Wadebridge area, and also has a playground and coffee shop. We felt privileged to be amongst their first visitors. I wish Charmion and Charles every success. Their cottages are a delight, and the Poultry Patch deserves to become a well loved and much visited attraction in the area. We will be reserving earlier next time as I have no doubt Welsummer Cottage (named after a breed of chicken!) will be booked up well in advance in the future.

Beautiful stay, high recommend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in July and it was an easy route to get to. The cottage is located in a beautiful rural location. When arriving, there were chickens and Donkeys and the cottage looked beautiful. There were fresh scones and clotted cream on arrival and tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a cold bottle of water waiting for us, just what we needed.

It was clean and exactly like the photos, just stunning. Charmion and Charles had thought about everything, there were all the utensils you needed, books, DVDs, an information pack and brochures.

We didn't get to see Charmion or Charles at the beginning, but that's because we were out a lot. On the last day Charmion came to say goodbye and checked we'd a lovely stay, which we did, in fact we didn't want to leave.

The cottage is only a short drive to Newquay and Padstow, so I definitely recommend going there. The local Tesco isn't far away, but due to the roads being only single tracks it seems like forever, so I would recommend getting some basic food items before you arrive, particularly if you've had a long drive.

We will definitely be going back as there is so much to do in this area, we stayed for 4 days and didn't get to see even a quarter of it. I was in two minds if to write this review, not because I didn't want to provide feedback, because selfishly I want to stay again and I know it will become booked up very quickly once people read and see these fantastic reviews. It is a little "gem" and I highly recommend it.

Thank you Charmion and Charles

Simply Stunning.......Perfect Cornwall Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Patch Cottages exceeded our expectations and was even more beautiful than we could have imagined. Everything about this accommodation and region was simply stunning and we extended our stay while here to be able to enjoy it a little longer.

The cottages have been beautiful and carefully renovated with everything thought of for a very luxurious stay and with all the equipment needed to be able to cook for our family of four each night. If you are after a break from cooking there are many gorgeous restaurants also close by to enjoy.

The Cottages are tucked away in the lush rural setting of Cornwall enough to feel secluded but also close enough to a few surrounding villages to have all amenities just a short drive away. We also found many picturesque Cornwall attractions close by to explore and really fell in love with this region.

There are lovely woodland walks to explore from the doorstep which our kids just adored. What kids doesn't love skimming stones and jumping muddy puddles!....and it was lovely to come home after a chilly day and light the fire while the kids explored the outdoor area with an array of ducks and chickens to meet.

The owners, Charlie and Charmion were the perfect hosts and went over and above to make our family feel welcome and provided so much information on the area and recommend places for us to visit. They really care about their guests and obviously take a lot of pride in what they do.

Whether you travelling as a family with children or wanting a romantic cosy Cornwall get away, we highly recommend Patch Cottages.
