Rustic and secluded

  • 5 of 5

There was no mobile reception nor Wi-Fi, and that’s the whole point, to get away from it all. And this is the place for getting away, and getting back to nature.

Beautiful Location, Terrific Cottage...

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Leon and Mark, for a great holiday. I urge people to let this quaint, quiet cottage with stunning views of Ullswater and its surrounding fells. One of a row of former miners' cottages, this small. tidy abode has been converted into a warm, fully furnished modern holiday home without losing any of its charm or essential character. Quiet, peaceful and with a garden that is home to countless (hungry) birds and red squirrels, this is the ideal place for anyone seeking sanctuary hurly-burly of modern life. There's a paddock beyond the cottages with a beautiful stream and numerous nooks and crannies for reading or thoughtful contemplation. If you fancy something more strenuous, why not walk some of the nearby fells - the views from the top are worth the effort. We had a minor problem getting the futuristic hob to work (our fault), and one of the co-owners, Leon, drove long distance just to show us how to use it (he even brought a replacement hob in the event that it failed). He then had the good grace to stay a while and offer us a potted history of the surrounding area. I cannot recommend this cottage, or its owners, highly enough. Now go book and treat yourself to the perfect break from the trials and tribulations of the 21st Century....

There are numerous picturesque walks of varying difficult, direct from the door of the property. More difficult walks include Sheffield Pike and the challenge of Helwellyn with the walk around Ullswater to Pooley Bridge providing gentler terrain.
