Overview

About the property

3 bed/bath village house with plunge pool in beautiful, ancient village of Goult

Maison Du Four occupies a prime position in the heart of the delightful conservation village of Goult, one of the Luberon’s most atmospheric settings.

A former bakery, this ancient house has been carefully restored over several years to provide a mix of comfort and character that make it a perfect base for a Provencal holiday. Replete with original features, from the oversize stone fireplaces to the exposed oak beams, the house stands as one of the most distinctive addresses in the area.

The house is comprised of three bedrooms and two living rooms, along with kitchen, study, dining area, and utility room. The second living room leads directly onto the terrace.

Located near the top of the village, adjacent to a charming public garden and reached via a no-through road, Maison Du Four offers a wonderful sense of peace and quiet, while being only a few steps from the many amenities that the village provides.

Goult is a perfectly preserved medieval village that surely must rank among France’s most beautiful. Dominated by the seventeenth century chateau, its winding lanes and stone-hewn alleyways provide a magical setting for a holiday. Crucially, Goult remains a bustling and vibrant working village. A weekly market in the main square offers a wonderful place to stock up on local produce, while the village shop, baker’s, butcher’s and deli will provide all you need to cook up incredible meals back at the house.

If you’re looking to eat out, then the village provides several options. The popular café attracts crowds from across the region, drawn to its French classics served in the sun-drenched main square. Nearby is the Auberge de la Bartavelle, offering exquisite fine dining in tasteful surroundings. In addition, a handful of brasserie-style restaurants mean that you will never be short of dining options in the village. The surrounding area is littered with fantastic options from Michelin starred establishments to simple, rustic gems.

About Julian Harvard

We are a professor of medicine and a psychotherapist from north London. We have been enjoying the maison du four with our family for three decades and continue to come every year with our sons and their children.

Julian Harvard purchased this house in 1987

Why Julian Harvard chose Goult

We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it. When we first bought it, it was a complete ruin and we relished the opportunity to restore it to its former glory over time. We love the Luberon and this was the perfect base form which to explore it.

What makes this house unique

Nothing beats breakfast or drinks on the terrace, looking out over the Luberon.

A very happy holiday.

  • 4 of 5

The house is quaint and quirky. The pool was a delight.

The village is beautiful and unspoilt surrounded by many other medieval towns and villages which give the Bastide towns of the Dordogne a run for their money! The village bar is legendary apparently and the restaurants are excellent.

The Luberon Valley is beautiful and the French Riviera is within driving distance.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this wonderful house in Goult. The weather was unseasonably hot for the first couple of days, so having the plunge pool and the outdoor sitting/eating area was a godsend. Loved being able to eat breakfast outside on the terrace, shaded with grape and wisteria vines. It felt very homely. Had all the amenities you could want. The village has everything you need for a relaxing break. Small shop and plenty of restaurants. Perfectly located to tour around the other villages and sights of the Luberon.

Lovely traditional house in a friendly interesting village

  • 4 of 5

We were warm and comfortable and the house is charming. It has no oven which was a little disappointing but the village cafes and restaurants were a great compensation. Thanks also for helpful instructions bs notes on the area.
