Villa With Private Pool, Close To Beaches And Town Centre

Overview

Property

Updated: 11-Aug-2016
Villa in Bandol, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France - Peaceful Location only 5 Minutes Walk To The Beach And Hotel De Ville

Bandol is a little gem on the Cote d’Azur between Marseille and Toulon. It’s a working town, with a beautiful port, a lively market every day in the town square and enough restaurants and bars to not have to eat in the same one (unless you want to!) for at least a month. Check out Trip Advisor and you’ll see a great selection of restaurants to suit every budget and taste. The beaches are safe and sheltered and all have lifeguards in the peak season. There are some lovely shops along the sea front and some of the best ice cream parlours in the south of France. Morningside, or CoteMatin as it’s called here, is a set in a quiet cul de sac and only a five minute walk to the heart of the town. With its own swimming pool and safe enclosed back garden you can relax around the pool or spend a morning or afternoon at the beach - so it’s a great choice for families with young children or a group of friends. There is plenty to do in the area – take the 5 minute ferry to Isle de Bendor (the home of Ricard Pastis) and walk around the island, visit the art gallery, swim off the rocks or take in a lunch at one of the beach restaurants. Take a boat trip along the famous “Calanques”, the stunning cliffs that lie between Bandol and Marseille. Visit the many Bandol vineyards – Bandol has its own microclimate and AOC and produces excellent whites, roses and some of the best and most expensive red wines in France. In summer you can try waterskiing, banana boat and donuting or parasailing. There are plenty of schools where you can learn to scuba dive or just snorkel. The Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet for petrol heads is 20km away – far enough so you can’t hear it at all but can drive up if you want to watch a race. Only 5 minutes out of town is the Dolce Fregate golf course, one of the top courses in France with one of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe. For the kids (and adults!) there is Aqualand in nearby St Cyr sur Mer with over 11 wicked water slides for everyone to enjoy. And of course there are lots of places to explore – Les Gorges du Verdon, the perched villages of Le Castellet and La Cadiere (think Russell Crowe in A Good Life when he helps out as a waiter in the restaurant – they really are like that!). And within an hour’s drive you have Marseille, St Tropez and some of the best known resorts in Provence. Getting there – you can fly to Marseille and rent a car or take the airport bus to Marseille station (St Charles) and pick up the train to Bandol. The train runs twice an hour and takes 40 minutes. Morningside is a 5 minute walk from the station in Bandol. Or you can fly to Toulon – Ryanair do flights from Stansted. If you fly to Nice you can either rent a car or take the train along the coast – a beautiful, sedate route along the coast which will take just over 2 hours. And for the first time from May onwards there are DIRECT trains from St Pancras in London to Marseille St Charles so you can do the trip in only six and a half hours.

Great villa and lovely town.

  • 5 of 5

Really nice, well appointed villa. Good location within Bandol. Easy walk down hill to town/port/beach. Villa is well equipped with everything you'd need and its nice to get beach towels as well as house towels provided. The terrace is a real sun trap but there is plenty of shade also. The pool is a good size for cooling off or having a splash around. There are several good beaches around the town, an easy walk. Bandol is lovely. A food market every morning means you can purchase all you need. Great selection of restaurants but the villa has a really good BBQ too. And the local rose wine is excellent. Overall was great villa in very nice area.

Superb accommodation

  • 5 of 5

A well-appointed little hideaway in a beautiful seaside town. Perfect for a small family or couple getaway, Bandol is a very 'French' resort (as in few English/Dutch/German voices heard) which suited us down to the ground. Martin was incredibly helpful and maintained good communication through the booking process and beyond. The resort had everything you'd want in a relaxing seaside holiday - perfect weather, good child-friendly beaches, pretty fishing boats, great shops, a fabulous market and a choice of good restaurants. They neighbouring resort of Sanary sur Mer is also worth a visit and don't miss a visit (via boat or hike) to the Calanques National Park and the amazing inlets and to the pretty medieval village of Le Castellet which is only hop skip and jump away from Bandol.

The house is modern, light and airy. Bedrooms are small(ish) without being cramped but all have excellent storage space to stash away your suitcases and clothes so there's no clutter. Building design means the house doesn't get too hot in the sun and the patio and pool are just perfect. The living area is open plan with plenty of comfy seats and a very well put together kitchen area with all the cooking kit anyone could ask for.

In all, an excellent holiday home in a great little resort. We've holidayed in France just about every year for the past 20 years and for the price, this accommodation is up there with the best we've used.

Private yet central and beautifully decorated

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this villa for a week in August and really enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious enough for a family and beautifully decorated. It's very well equipped, with plenty of everything (towels etc...). Our 5 year old loved the pool and the house is very well located, meaning that everything is on your doorstep. Bandol is a fantastic resort!! We would highly recommend both Bandol and this gorgeous property.

French charm with beautiful decor

  • 5 of 5

Light, airy and very roomy.

We arrived and stayed as a four using, two in the upstairs bedroom and two in the downstairs; plenty of room and very French with classic shutters on the windows.

Great facilities and we put the BBQ to good use, having picked up local meat and delicacies from the market in town.

Would recommend to families (Bandol has so much to do!) or couples looking for a great chance to get away in a beautiful location.

Location

From the Owner

This property is right in the middle of this lovely town that we have been visiting every year since we first discovered it over 15 years ago. What led us to book into a hotel here for 3 nights, with our family, all those years ago was its proximity to a distinct wine region. We didn't expect to find a delightful, photogenic, friendly, busy, sunny and interesting place. As a family we had (due to personal circumstances) had to take our family holidays by car. This meant we would use any excuse to call in for a day or two either on the way or on the back from all sorts of locations that we holidayed in around Europe. As is (sort of said) we liked the place so much we bought a house there! We have had the interior professionally designed so we love it!

Facilities

From the Owner

What we like about our house is that, although in the middle of the town, it's actually in a very quiet tucked away place, so is very tranquil. Lying on the sunny (south facing) enclosed terrace is very pleasant, with a nice pool to cool off in when the day heats up. But within a short walk you have a classic French small town with a traditional square with its daily market, numerous restaurants (not just French cuisine), several bars looking out over the harbour, the ferry to Bendor island (with its swimming and diving), mini cruises to the Calanques and other locations, excellent shopping, particularly clothes and fashions, tasty ice creams, all the usual food shops, 3 superb and very clean beaches and many other activities too numerous to mention. All this in a part of the Cote d'Azur that is far less manic (and dare I say better for it) than what's down the coast towards Nice and Cannes.
