Enjoy the perfect holiday in La Belle Grange, our newly renovated beautiful stone house, which sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms - 2 doubles and 2 twins - plus a small child’s bed and cot, and has 3 bathrooms.

La Belle Grange has been sympathetically converted from an ancient barn into the perfect holiday home. Set in very quiet and beautiful countryside, with panoramic views over a delightful unspoiled valley, to distant wooded hills and small farms.

La Belle Grange combines the beauty of this historic building with the luxury of modern facilities, without losing any of its charm, or unique character.

The magnificent two story entrance hall with double glazed doors has a cathedral ceiling showing the massive three hundred year old oak roof timbers, and a beautiful oak staircase sweeping up to the minstrel gallery on the first floor.

The house is flooded with light, from all of the large double glazed windows.

In order to make La Belle Grange into a luxurious open plan living space, we removed an internal wall, creating a large kitchen/living/dining room.

It has been furnished with a very chic combination of quality antique and modern furniture, including chaise longue, comfortable sofas, and chairs. There is a striking 3 meter oak table which seats 8.

For your family entertainment we have a new flat screen television, with English and European channels and WiFi is available.

The modern, extremely well equipped kitchen has everything you will need. You will enjoy using all of the new kitchen equipment, such as the washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, cooking utensils, toaster, and cafetière. Whether you are an expert cook, or just want some easy food it will make your holiday dining effortless and perfect.

The ancient granite fireplace has a new extremely efficient wood burning stove and full central heating.

La Belle Grange is insulated to the highest possible standard, so you will be cool in summer and toasty warm even in the coldest winter.

Sitting in this tranquil luxury, with the faint sweet smell of burning apple wood, and perhaps enjoying a delicious glass of wine, can be the perfect end to a day. Just relax, and enjoy smiles, happiness and good times, which always come as part of your holiday at La Belle Grange.

All bedrooms have very comfortable beds to ensure perfect sleep, and luxurious, high quality Egyptian cotton bedding. The double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, on the ground floor, has easy access through French doors to the garden.

The master bedroom on the first floor has a lovely en-suite bathroom. It has a large roll top bath with shower, antique art deco wash-stand and a free standing oval sink. You can enjoy a relaxing bath whilst gazing at the stars through the window above. Or enjoy lying in bed watching the morning sun rise filling the valley with light and glinting on the small stream.

Also on the first floor there is a twin bedroom, with en suite shower, and beautiful views over the valley. The smaller bedroom on the first floor has bunk beds and is ideal for children.

Outside we have a very large deck area with table, chairs, sun umbrella, sun loungers and barbeque. Stroll in the large grounds, in an orchard of apple, pear, and plum trees.

Enjoy the lower terrace, by the beautiful small sparkling stream below the house, with table and chairs, which makes a perfect spot for lazy lunches or afternoons in the sunshine listening to the sweet tinkling sound of the water. As the stream is only 6 inches deep, it is not ideal for fishing.

There is virtually no light pollution here so the views of the stars on a warm evening, are magnificent and magical.

It feels as if you are deep in the heart of the French countryside, it is so quiet, and peaceful, but it is only 5 minutes from Brécey, a small and pretty market town with everything you need to help you enjoy your stay. Brécey has 2 supermarkets, a newly opened quality restaurant Le Gourmand, lovely patisseries, for delicious homemade cakes or perfect fresh croissants for breakfast.

It has two Banks with ATM machines, bars for a drink or relaxed meal, boulangeries, charcuteries, a chemist, hairdresser, garage, hardware, and all of the usual French small town shops. There is a market in the town square with local produce every Friday, selling cheeses, fresh vegetables, and stalls with delicious hot food.

Local attractions

There is a supervised outdoor swimming pool for adults, children’s pool and paddling pool just a few minutes down the hill from us. You can buy crêpes here for about 1 euro. There’s also a small children’s play area with slides there.

Near the swimming pool there is a river, and a pretty lake, surrounded by a footpath perfect for picnics, or relaxing easy walks. The equestrian centre, opposite the lake, has gymkhanas, jumping and cross-country competitions.

There are lovely walks from the house, in the extensive beech woods 5 minutes walk away, with small streams, pools, and shady quiet areas. If you are lucky you will see kingfishers, woodpeckers, squirrels, trout, deer, a big variety of fungus, some edible (if you know what you are doing) or more rarely, a French farmer driving a small three wheel tractor along the many wide tracks in the woods as there are still one or two cultivated fields on the edge of the woods. It is very easy to spend hours there in the lush tranquil green spaces, ideal for a picnic, a paddle, or just some quality peaceful time, and so accessible.

Places to visit.

Avranches, 20 minutes – an old market town perched on a hill, has great views from the Jardin des Plantes towards Mont St. Michel.

*The second most visited place in France, the beautiful Mont St Michel, is 40 minutes. Go on a weekday if possible!

*William the Conqueror’s castle in Caen is an hour. Caen is also a very good shopping centre. There is a very large and renowned World War 2 museum on the outskirts of the town.

*The D-Day beaches, and Bayeux tapestry are about 50 mins, and well worth a visit.

*Explore the famous “Route de la Baie” following the coast near Mont St Michel, and enjoy a delicious meal in one of the cliff top restaurants. Enjoy the views or visit one of the many spectacular beaches.

*Nearest long, sandy beaches about 35-40 mins – one of our favourites is Carolles.

*St Hilaire du Harcouet 20 minutes is a lovely market town with a large, local market on Wednesdays. Perhaps the best market in the area. It has a large church and lakeside park.

*Enjoy walking along a disused railway track footpath from Paris to Mont St Michel,which is easily accessible from St Hilaire, or Mortain, both about 20 minutes away. It’s good for walks or cycling - you can hire bikes from Neufbourg, just before you get to Mortain.

* Abbeye Blanche – a lovely old Abbeye about 15 mins away and the waterfall walks are very pretty and not too taxing.

* Fishing-15mins, at a trout farm in the Val de la See, or 20 mins. at a very large lake at Lac Clement.

*Go Karting- 20 mins, on the Mortain road.

*Le Village Enchante-15 mins, at Bellefontaine on the Mortain road, a small theme park with many various activities, horses, rides, zip wires, and more.

* Parc L’Ange Michel-30 mins. A larger theme park with over 30 rides near St Hilaire.

* Swiss Normandy 20 mins north on the A84 towards Caen, very good for walking, exploring the small towns and has spectacular views.

Extremely comfortable, well equipped and wonderful, tranquil country setting

We've stayed at La Belle Grange several times now at different times of the year and back again this summer. We love it ! It's a truly relaxing setting, with well appointed, stylish and generous accommodation. A perfect venue to take in as much or as little of the area's many attractions, wonderful food, culture and countryside. Highly recommended, private, perfect for enjoying alfresco dining or equally a stunning sunrise.

Fantastic family holiday

We had a truly special week at La Belle Grange. The property was beautiful with so much character and perfect for our family of 5. The garden was fantastic with lots of space for the children to run around. The kids loved how close the cows came to see what was going on. We really appreciated that a paddling pool and a few beach toys were there to use as we could just relax on the property without having to go very far. We made good use of the local outdoor pool as well which really is just down the road but it doesn't open until 2pm. Just as a note, the small pool is free for under 5's but you pay to go into the bigger pools. We were very lucky that the weather was brilliant and made a few trips to Carolles beach which was actually a lovely drive to get to. The property was quite well equipped although could maybe do with some child friendly, plastic cups and bowls etc. Obviously not something that would stop me going back. Leading up to the holiday the owners were easy to get in touch with, great about answering questions and always replied to messages. I would definitely recommend it and hope to go back one day.
