A network of packhorse bridges and further a field more popular walks and cycle trails such as Dovedale and The Old Maniford Trail await your discovery. Many historic houses and stately homes are also close by; during a visit to the idyllic market town of Bakewell why not explore The glorious Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall; the medival house used in the filming of ' Jane Eyre'. A further car journey will see you to Lyme Park, Calke Abbey or Kedleston Hall. The Spa town of Buxton is a short car distance from the farmhouse, where you are never short of things to do; Opera house shows, Go Karting, Underground Caverns and the Pavillion Gardens just to name a few. Other local attractions include Alton Towers Theme Park, The Chestnut Wildlife Centre, The Heights of Abaham ( Matlock) and Trekking Centres. After discovering the thrills of the Peak District guests can return to the cottage, relax infront of the open coal/ log fire, or enjoy the summer nights out in the garden listening the the birds sing, and gentle sound of the river dove in the valley below. Local country pubs provide good quality traditional food and ales, nearby pubs include The Knights Table, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese and The Staffordshire Knot.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a perfect escape from the world. The cottage is stunning, we would move here tomorrow if we could. We have had an amazing time and will certainly be back here many times more. Castleton is beautiful- Old English at its best - visit if you can. Wish we had stayed longer.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! :)

Away from it all

  • 4 of 5

A lovely stone cottage set in stunning countryside with far reaching views. Well kept and clean with plenty of fuel provided for the open fire, all the utensils you will need in the kitchen. Both bedrooms are beautifully decorated and the towels provided are pleasantly soft. The claw foot is just calling you to relax in the bubbles with a glass in hand ! Outside you will be greeted by Dolly the donkey, Zara and her daughter Flicka so remember to take plenty of carrots and apples with you as they are very demanding although very friendly too. All in all a really good rental house for getting away from it all with lots of walks nearby. The Knights Table pub (around a mile) serves good food too.

Lovely home away from home

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely couple of days break here, had a great stay, the house is really nice, clean and well looked after. We arrived in the dark and the fire had been lit and a bottle of mulled wine left for us. The kitchen had all the utensils, pots and pans you could need. We were left plenty fuel to keep the fire going to be extra cosy. The pub up the road was closed on the monday and tuesday so we went a bit further along the road for a lovely meal.
