About Judy

I live here with my two children, having moved to Cumbria in 2001 to live a rural life in the beautiful Lake District National Park.

Brackenrigg is a wonderful spot; views from the front of the cottages of the Helvellyn range of fells - a stunning uninterrupted vista from far left to far right. Being just 3 miles from Keswick, we have all the amenities on the door step - but live in a beautiful rural landscape. Walking from the door is a great pleasure, valleys, or stiffer climbs to suit the mood, and being located in the very heart of the park - most areas of the Lake District are within an easy drive.

We love the gardens, woodland; and wildlife here - badgers, red squirrels, deer, owls, song birds and birds of prey, pheasants.

I am delighted to welcome you to this beautiful place

Judy purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Judy chose Saint John's Castlerigg and Wythburn

The location is right in the heart of the National Park, walking from the door, but easy drive to all parts of Lake District - whether Borrowdale, Ullswater, or south to the Langdales, Ambleside. Only 3 miles to town centre of Keswick

What makes this cottage unique

1860 barn retaining many original features. Lovely gardens and woodland, home to much wildlife. Bird & squirrel feeders close to your cottage to enhance your chances of seeing red squirrels.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a lovely stay in this warm, clean and quiet haven. We heard Tawny Owls, and Red Squirrels. Great weather, beautiful autumn colours. Fab time all round, thank you!

Quite idyllic accommodation with beautiful views of the Helvellyn range.

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property, perfect for the two of us and our two four legged friends.... special request granted to take two small dogs.

We met the owner Judy who was very accommodating and pleasant.

Property is located approximately 3miles from Keswick And close to the lovely village of Grasmere .

We particularly enjoyed the walks around the house.

The accommodation had a wealth of information on recommendations for places to eat, places to visit, maps and much more.

We would definitely return.

We throughly enjoyed our stay in this cosy cottage. The owner Judy kindly let both our dogs come and visit. We had a great time in The Lake District. We packed a lot onto our day and a half but next time a week would be better.

Ideal and great location. *****

  • 5 of 5

Having visited the lakes many times before, this was the first time bringing our dog and boy did she enjoy it. The cottage was perfect for what we wanted, Easy when you have a dog, very affordable and a great location for the central and north Lakes.

We didn't meet Judy until our second day which was fine as she had arranged prior to our arrival where we would find the key. Judy was very friendly and helpful, couldn't ask for more.

The cottage is open plan, spacious and has a fabulous view of Helvellyn. The kitchen is basic but perfectly adequate and we cook on a few occasions throughout our weeks stay. On the other nights we ate out, twice in Keswick (only 3 miles) and twice at the Travelers Rest which is a nice pub on the road to Grasmere (less than 3 miles) and they do great stake !

We were blessed with great weather, did lots of walking and all in all had a fantastic week. We will definitely stay again. Thanks Judy

A very happy, Dunk & Bron.
