Cottage In Country Setting, 10 min walk from beach, less to Old Village & Parks

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Nov-2016
Quiet Location, child friendly, 5 mins walk to The Old Village, 10 to beach.

Clematis Cottage is tucked away on the edge of the picturesque Shanklin Old Village, on the south eastern corner of the island. The safe, sandy, award winning beach is only a 10 minute walk away whilst the Heart of the old village with its pretty thatched cottages, tea rooms, and pubs are just a few minutes walk. Shanklin Chine and Rylstone gardens, with crazy golf, bandstand and tea rooms and Big Mead Park are also just a few minutes walk. Big Mead has a large area to picnic or play, plenty of room for ball games, a duck pond and is next to St. Blasius 12th century church. This is all on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, as is a large area of the Isle of Wight. There are many stunning coastal and country footpaths, some can be joined at the end of the road. Clematis Cottage is a 3 bedroom cottage providing self-catering accommodation for up to six guests. The lounge has patio doors opening out onto a decked patio area, with outdoor furniture, and looks out over the enclosed private garden with little tikes play area and children's play house. There is ample parking in front of the cottage. If you don't wish to use, or bring, your car there is a bus stop within a couple of minutes walk, The Train also stops in Shanklin town, there is nearby cycle hire and plenty to keep you busy within walking distance. Clematis is child friendly, equipped with stair gates, high chair, travel cot, toys and bed guards if needed.

About the Owner

We have owned Clematis Cottage for five years. We are both lucky enough to have be brought up on the Isle of Wight.

We chose Clematis Cottage for its great location, close to the beach, the old Village, parks and countryside, perfect for our family.

We have three children, one boy and two girls , they all love Shanklin and the beach and can't wait to stay in the cottage.

Being a close family all hands are on deck, our mums are a great help, we have lovely housekeepers and their families who also help, and two very willing gardeners who turn their hands to almost anything.

Knowing how much families have to take with them on holiday we have tried to think of everything so that all that needs to be had is a good time!

We really hope you love the cottage and The Isle of Wight as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Yet another fantastic stay in Clematis cottage, weather was amazing too, we will most certainly be back soon never seem to manage to get all the things we want to do done no matter how much we plan things, still I guess thats part of the charm that keeps drawing us back to the Island, thanks for once again providing a first class house for us to enjoy the Island from.”

Wright Family

“We had a great time on the island, and the house was exactly what we needed – thank you. ….

…., thanks again for all your hard work and attention to detail – it really shows.”

Calder / Hallet Families

“…. We were very impressed with Chestnut Mews. I spent a lot of time trying to think of something you hadn’t provided – couldn’t think of anything. It was also beautifully clean.

If we come back to Shanklin in the future we would book with you and also will tell other people how lovely it is.

My granddaughters loved the red squirrels. My daughter bought them a cuddly one each as a reminder. ….”

Bradley Family

“Had a great time at Clematis Cottage. We all said we felt so relaxed as soon as we arrived, we really felt at home and wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend you.Hope to be back some time in the near future.”

“EXCELLENT PLACE TO STAY.”

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 days ago for a stay in October 2016

If you are considering self catering holiday accommodation on the Isle of Wight, then look no further than Chestnut Mews. The booking process was simple and efficient, the cottage was first class in every way, so comfortable and very well appointed and the welcome pack we were greeted with on arrival was more than sufficient. The location is ideal, just outside of the old Village, private and peaceful and well situated for travel around the beautiful Island. We could not fault it. Many thanks to Peter and Mandy for a very enjoyable holiday.

We stayed in Clematis cottage in September. We could not fault it. So lovely to be able to walk into Shanklin for an evening meal. We were delighted to see a red squirrel sitting on the garden fence most days!! We have recommended the cottage to family and friends

Very enjoyable Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Clematis Cottage, the Cottage was very well equiped and clean and tidy.We were three generations staying and our 18th month Old Granddaughter loved the Garden and the toys provided. It is a lovely area with plenty to do for every age. The Cottage is near enough to walk into Shanklin, which has plenty of tea shops and restaurants to visit. The booking was easy and Peter was very helpful to deal with. We would certainly recommend to anyone to stay in these cottages, especially with young children.

Excellent accommodation in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

Clematis cottage was everything we had hoped for. The accommodation is excellent and the location is very quiet & peaceful, although it is only a short walk into Old Shanklin. It is very well equipped & is particularly suitable for young children. The owners are very friendly & helpful.

Perfect!!!

These cottages are like home from home, very comfortable, with everything you need. It's in a great location, in a quiet part of Shanklin old village, but in good walking distance to the coastal paths, pubs and restaurants that does great choice of meals for every one. To me these are the best cottages in shanklin and I've been going to the Isle of Wight for many years. Love them!!!

“Beautiful, excellent, superb!”

  • 5 of 5

This was our first family holiday with a 1 year and 4 year old. Clematis Cottage was above and beyond our expectations! It's cleanliness, how well it was equipped, from kitchen equipment to toys and DVDs for the children and the personal touches for the children and the adults. Advice, directions and history of the Island in the house pack was very perfectly detailed. It's location was perfect for accessing Shanklin and its beautiful beaches. We had a fantastic time on the IOW not forgetting to mention the weather was sun, sun and more sun! We will definitely be returning to the IOW in the future and most certainly will use Chestnut Mews again.

Thank you Peter & Mandy giving us fond memories!

Location

From the Owner

We already owned honeysuckle and Jasmine cottages and were finding it hard to book a week for ourselves, Clematis became available, it didn't take much thinking about! we love Shanklin and the old village, the cottages are in a great location, plenty to do near by and an equal distance from both of our families, it has proved to be the right decision for us.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The Cliff Path and Steps leading to Appley Beach, the quieter end of Shanklin’s Beach, is approximately a ten minute walk away. Or alternatively, you can stroll along a tarmac path, via the Old Village and park (easier for prams and the less agile) which also only takes about ten minutes to get to Shanklin’s main Beach and the esplanade, with its gift shops, coffee shops and amusements. The sandy beaches at Shanklin hold the water quality award, for its clean shallow waters and safe bathing.

Travel:

Wightlink car ferries cross from Lymington to Yarmouth in 30 min's, Portsmouth to Fishbourne in 45, foot passengers can use the catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde in 22 min’s. From Ryde Pier Head you can board the train to Shanklin.

Red Funnel car ferry sails between Southampton and East Cowes in 1 hour. If on foot there is the the Hi-Speed Red Jet between Southampton and West Cowes, in 25 min’s.

Hovertravel is the fastest service, for foot passengers, from Southsea to Ryde in just 10 min’s.

Further Details:

The nearest newsagents is less than a ten minute walk to the top of the old Village, as is the nearest grocery shop. Ten minutes walk will take you into the seaside town of Shanklin where you will find Banks, chemists and many other shops. The nearest pub is less than 5 minutes away, restaurants, coffee shops and tea rooms are dotted about throughout the old Village and Shanklin. The Island has a Tescos, Waitrose and Sainsburys that will deliver to the cottage, there are also plenty of places that will deliver a takeaway if you just want to stay in and relax! Details of some are in the cottage, as are recommendations from previous guests.
