Cottage in Marrick, Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire, England - Peaceful End Of Village Location. Situated On Wainwright's Coast To Coast Walk

Park Lodge is a south facing detached cottage in it's own grounds situated at the edge of Marrick Parks, ideal for chilling out, walking or cycling ( there is a Bike Centre in Fremington just 2 miles from the cottage should you wish to hire). Marrick is 3 miles from Reeth which has shops, pubs,cafes,post office, museum and garage. We are also 10 miles from the historic town of Richmond with it's Norman castle, cobbled square, Georgian theatre ( the oldest in the country ) swimming pool, restaurants and supermarkets. There are many small shops, Edwina's cake shop is a special favourite and the shops at the converted Station are well worth a visit. Market day is Saturday.

Leyburn is just 10 miles from the cottage, a typical Dales market town with it's shops, bars etc. Hawes, a little further afield has it's creamery, made famous by Wallace and Grommit, the cafe and bar are well worth a visit.

I don't appear to be able to give a 5* review, but would if I could! probably one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed in. Very comfortable and ideally situated with stunning views and walks from the front door. I could stay a month and work my way through the books!!! Would highly recommend and will stay again - thank you Janet! Ps there is a whopping wasps nest in the air brick vent under the bay window!!!

Very peaceful and amazing scenery.

So quiet and beautiful amazing views!!! Great walks from door! Surrounded by fields and animals!!

Large house with well equipt kitchen!

No phone sugnal but does have Wifi. Kid and dog friendly! Had BBQ and lovely gardens!

Beautiful setting for a relaxing break.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at the cottage. The setting is beautiful. It was lovely to be right out in the countryside with the beautiful views & to see & hear the sheep in the fields next door.

The cottage has lots of room & the bedrooms are all really good sizes. We had plenty of room even with 4 adults, 3 children & a baby.

We had a lovely time & would love to go on holiday to Park Lodge again.

George & Janet were very helpful & always contacted us promptly with any queries.

Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings

My family and I enjoyed our stay in Park Cottage. It was so peaceful and the view of Swaledale was just beautiful. The cottage itself is large and comfortable and has all of the conveniences that you need in a holiday cottage. There are some lovely walks from the cottage and others of a more challenging nature just a short drive away. Access to the parking area was a bit challenging when we first arrived with the car loaded down with luggage and passengers. Once the weight had been taken out of the car I had no problems for the rest of our stay. Tip: off-load outside the front door before parking the car at the back. It is a lovely cottage and we would go back again.

Great cottage

We had a great spring holiday in Janet and George’s comfortably appointed and perfectly situated period cottage.

The house stands at the south eastern corner of the pretty village of Marrick so it’s peaceful without being isolated, and easily accessible by car. Inside, the house still displays some features of its long history and had everything we needed; all the usual features were there, plus some nice touches like an eclectic mixture of books to read. The spring and summer heating arrangements consist of a huge gas fired Aga in the kitchen and electric heaters in the other rooms, and these proved perfectly adequate to keep us cosy in the cool evenings. The Aga also makes the kitchen a comfortable and welcoming focal point of the house. Again because of the situation of the house, there are fabulous, sweeping views out over Swaledale from most of the windows.

It was reassuring to find an incoming phone line so we were contactable in emergency, despite the customary lack of mobile signal in the Dales. If you need the internet the BT broadband proved fast and reliable.

The weather was generally very kind to us so could appreciate the large, flower-filled garden to the full and admire the superb view it affords south over Swaledale. The surrounding fields were packed with this year’s lambs so we’d definitely picked an ideal time to visit. The cottage is an ideal centre for a walking holiday with the coast-to-coast path running literally right past the front door, and a superb network of other paths leading in all directions.

Marrick is a friendly and welcoming village, but being small lacks any shops or a pub. Reeth and Grinton at the bottom of the hill are, however, within walking distance and offer excellent, traditional shops, pubs and a highly competent garage (ideal if you have a bad car day!)

If you do have any questions or snags Janet and George are easily contactable so all in all we’d highly recommend Park Lodge and are really looking forward to going back.

Lovely cottage in beautiful location

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Park Lodge. What a gorgeous cottage in the perfect location. Very peaceful and stunning views. The aga was a treat, we cooked on it most days. The garden was lovely and interesting. Will definately return as there is so much to see in the Dales.

  • Notes on accommodation: Up to 2 well behaved house trained dogs are welcome, no pets are allowed upstairs or on the beds as this creates extra cleaning. A baby gate is provided to help with this. Please clean up after your dogs in the garden. Park Lodge is a non-smoking establishment, any cigarette ends must be removed from the garden. Outside: A beautiful secluded garden with a spacious patio. Table and chairs are provided and also a barbecue. There is a lockable shed to store bikes if required. Parking for 2 cars on the driveway. Front and rear porches for muddy boots, coats etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The cottage is cleaned weekly. Electricity, bedding and towels are included although we do not provide cot bedding.
