About Lynn Chamberlain

An artist and scientist by profession with 30 years experience as furniture makers and antique restorers. As serial renovators this french based couple wanted a cosy Cornish bolthole to remind them of whats best of England.

Lynn Chamberlain purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Lynn Chamberlain chose South West Cornwall

Perfect location near the harbourside rail and bus stations makes it perect for exporing Cornwall by its surprisingly wonderful and inexpensive public transport system. Its faster and cheaper than by car usually and much less stressful than local roads. We wanted somthing with comfortable and with character but small enough to be warm and cosy.

What makes this cottage unique

The location. Its 2 mins from the sea, the stations yet very quiet. Coming from rural France we love being able to walk out of the front door and into the independant shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and cinema minutes away. We love the fact that Penzance is a real town, not just a tourist spot but just as charming as any but with better amenities.

Whirligig Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This tiny cottage, handily placed for the railway and bus stations, has been stylishly converted for use by a couple as a holiday retreat, well equipped and dressed with care by its owners. we are envious of the 'Ercol' furniture and the accent colour used throughout.

All in all a brilliant stay in a pleasant place with excellent transport links over west Cornwall.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mike for your review. So pleased that you liked the decor.... I had great fun hunting pieces down to give the cottage a retro feel and it's nice to know it was worth the effort. Best wishes. Lynn and Scott

Lovely cottage for a comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely cottage for two weeks in January. While the weather wasn't always the best we were always warm and comfortable due to the excellent heating, bedding and furnishings in the cottage. It has a nice homely feel and the small kitchen is well designed and equipped. We enjoyed the sparkling clean bathroom for its generous size and light, bright feel. The position is close to the train station and downtown. Highly recommended.

A very comfortable and ideally situated cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully located within walking distance of the shops restaurants harbour and promenade in Penzance. Beautifully decorated with a retro theme and a touch of French class. The cottage is very cosy for nights in after exploring West Penwith.

Gorgeous cottage and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from a week in Whirlygig Cottage with my 14 year-old daughter and 12 year-old son and we had a wonderful stay! We came down to Penzance by train which was so easy as the cottage is literally a two minute walk from the train station. During the week we managed to walk to St Michaels Mount, take an open-top bus to Land's end and the Minack Theatre, enjoy a train ride to St Ives and a ferry to the Scilly Isles. I was so glad I'd left the car at home!! The accommodation is lovely and cosy and I was particularly impressed with the bathroom. Only drawback for me was that I had to re-learn the art of washing up as I've become far too dependent on a dishwasher it seems! Thoroughly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that you had a good holiday car free. When we visit from France we often leave the car behind as we find it so easy get around too and located close to the station was one of the reasons we bought the cottage. Thanks again.
