About Lynn Chamberlain

An artist and scientist by profession with 30 years experience as furniture makers and antique restorers. As serial renovators this french based couple wanted a cosy Cornish bolthole to remind them of whats best of England.

Lynn Chamberlain purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Lynn Chamberlain chose South West Cornwall

Perfect location near the harbourside rail and bus stations makes it perect for exporing Cornwall by its surprisingly wonderful and inexpensive public transport system. Its faster and cheaper than by car usually and much less stressful than local roads. We wanted somthing with comfortable and with character but small enough to be warm and cosy.

What makes this cottage unique

The location. Its 2 mins from the sea, the stations yet very quiet. Coming from rural France we love being able to walk out of the front door and into the independant shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and cinema minutes away. We love the fact that Penzance is a real town, not just a tourist spot but just as charming as any but with better amenities.

Whirligig Cottage

This tiny cottage, handily placed for the railway and bus stations, has been stylishly converted for use by a couple as a holiday retreat, well equipped and dressed with care by its owners. we are envious of the 'Ercol' furniture and the accent colour used throughout.

All in all a brilliant stay in a pleasant place with excellent transport links over west Cornwall.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mike for your review. So pleased that you liked the decor.... I had great fun hunting pieces down to give the cottage a retro feel and it's nice to know it was worth the effort. Best wishes. Lynn and Scott

Wonderful little cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful week. Cottage centrally located, easy access to bus station and town. Will definitely book again as accommodation was spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and quirky. Would highly recommend.

An absolutely 'brilliant' cottage in excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

It was our first visit to Penzance and we had a great time. The cottage was excellent with everything we needed for a weeks break. It was 'spotlessly' clean and furnished to a high standard. As we had decided to travel by train from South Wales its location was perfect, being only 2 minutes from the railway station with Europcar Car Hire based at the station car park, which made it very convenient to hire a car for the week. If you like a quiet drink then we recommend the Lamp & Whistle just around the corner which sells a wide range of local ales.

Would love to stay at the cottage again and will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Handy for bus/trains, close to the sea, just large enough for one, close to pubs and 2 minutes walk away from the high street. What's not to like (and how much would the owners accept for it?!?) ?

Owner's Response: Thank you Howard for your great review. Not up for negotiation I'm afraid !!! As we love our little bolthole in Cornwall too.

Lovely cottage for a comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely cottage for two weeks in January. While the weather wasn't always the best we were always warm and comfortable due to the excellent heating, bedding and furnishings in the cottage. It has a nice homely feel and the small kitchen is well designed and equipped. We enjoyed the sparkling clean bathroom for its generous size and light, bright feel. The position is close to the train station and downtown. Highly recommended.

A very comfortable and ideally situated cottage

Wonderfully located within walking distance of the shops restaurants harbour and promenade in Penzance. Beautifully decorated with a retro theme and a touch of French class. The cottage is very cosy for nights in after exploring West Penwith.

Penzance with its mix of Georgian and Regency houses and cosy fishermans cottages is the perfect base from which to explore West Cornwall. The bay and St Michaels Mount make the sea look mediterranean , a feeling enhanced by the tropical planting. This just renovated 19thC fishermans cottage is les than half a kilometre from the rail and coach station making it ideal for those wanting to leave the car at home. It is actually far easier, quicker and cheaper to hop on the train or bus to St Ives, Falmouth, Truru etc than it is to drive and park. The independant cinema, Acorn theatre and hundreds of interesting independant shops are a stones throw away.
