Updated: 15-Nov-2016
Cottages in Millers Dale, Peak District, Derbyshire, England - Peaceful Farm Location. Many Scenic Walks From The Door

Monks Retreat is the overall name for our cottages individually called :- Abbots Abode sleeps up to 6. Friars Folly sleeps up to 4. Monks Memories sleeps 2. They are lovingly converted from a very old limestone barn with many original features and old oak beams etc. but with all modern comforts and facilities. Peacefully located on a south facing hillside with some of the best views and walks in the Peak District directly from your door. You may follow our farm footpaths around our conservation area for views of 7 Derbyshire Dales. We are close by the Limestone Way footpath and a stones throw from the Monsal Trail. The picturesque hamlet of Millers Dale is a 500 metre stroll down a leafy lane to the riverside pub. Quiet and rural but not isolated and central for touring all the Peak District has to offer.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

Our family have lived and worked on our small hill farm for 3 generations, we cannot imagine living anywhere else, the peace, tranquillity and the wonderful views are second to non. The cottages were a dream come true. After converting the barn and welcoming our first guests in 2000 many have become good friends and return year after year to see our hills and dales in all their seasons colours and moods. We live in the farmhouse just 100 yards away and can always be on hand to help and advise if needed. We look after the cottages ourselves to meet the very high standards of cleanliness and comfort. I keep a small variety of chickens near the cottage to lay eggs for family and guests and they are available to you, fresh each morning in season.

Location

From the Owner

Our farm and Monks Retreat cottages are in a truly rural setting but not isolated. Situated on a south facing hillside overlooking Monks Dale and Millers Dale nature reserves with fantastic and extensive views. A short stroll down a leafy lane brings you to the old pub, nestling beside the sparkling and tumbling river, with log fires and serving real ale and food. We are 2 miles from the quaint old market town of Tideswell, home to the famous 'Cathedral of the Peak'. Here are small family businesses of butcher, baker, greengrocer, a minimarket and numerous tea shops.

Facilities

From the Owner

Monks Retreat gives modern comfort and convenience whist retaining traditional charm and features. The rooms within the thick limestone walls are spacious with preserved ancient oak beams and niches, but having central heating Flat screen TV, DVD and Wi-Fi. Each cottage has a south facing garden to catch the best of the sun all day, and magnificent views to dream of. Some of the best walking in the country can be done directly from your door being beside the Limestone Way and just a stones throw from the Monsal Trail. You can use our personally compiled laminated walking guides to walk by towering limestone cliffs and in peaceful rivered dales. We have miles of car free cycle tracks on old disused railway beds and we are very central for touring the whole of the magnificent Peak District.
