About the Owner
We have lived here for 30 years, and Rob has done all the building work himself. Nothing had been done to the house or the outbuildings for years, and it's been a labour of love to restore it. Originally a Market Garden, over the years the land was sold off, and when we came it only had an acre left. The house was built in 1703, and rumour has it that the original barn was burnt down during the Peasant's Revolt. The Roman road which led from Richborough (where the Romans first landed in Britain), runs directly in front of the house. The cottages are set in a pretty courtyard. We are on-site to give you as much (or as little!) help as you need to make sure your stay with us is memorable. We always welcome our guests personally, and will do all we can to make sure you enjoy your holiday.
Guestbook comments from the owner
We had originally looked at staying in the stables, but when we went to book, only the Gardners cottage was free. It was perfect for us. It has a lovely cosy feel, but with plenty of room. Very clean, every modern convenience and we loved getting to grips with the coffee machine and grinder! Just the thing to set us up for the day. Anne has the knack of thinking of everything you may need...even to the reading glasses in the draw! Would recommend and location for us was excellent to visit all the sites around. We look forward to a return."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Gardener's Cottage, even though it was only February. The cottage was lovely, very well equipped and immaculately clean, and well placed for visits to Canterbury and Sandwich. We found our hosts to be very friendly without being at all intrusive, and would certainly recommend the cottages for anyone wishing to spend time in this lovely part of Kent."

A welcome pack and fresh flowers are an added bonus. There is also a lovely garden. We had a enjoyable stay and would highly recommend this cottage."

From the Owner
“We always knew we wanted a house in the country, set back from the road with a big garden, but couldn't afford one! So we bought a wreck and Rob worked his magic and it turned from an ugly ducking into a swan!”
Activity and Interests
We are about 15 minutes drive away from the sea. The coastal towns of Deal, Dover, Folkestone, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Broadstairs and Thanet are all within half an hour from us. Dreamland in Margate is opening up again as a vintage theme park in June.
Gatwick Airport is about 1hour 20 minutes from us, with Heathrow and Standsted about 1 hour 45 minutes. We are 25 minutes from the port of Dover, and 40 minutes from Eurotunnel in Folkestone. We are on the main bus route from Canterbury to Sandwich and Deal, so you don't have to have a car to stay with us. We have had guests from Holland who cycled all the way, and backpackers from Australia!
We are 20 minutes from Canterbury by car/bus, so visiting the Cathedral, St Augustine's Abbey and all that Canterbury has to offer is very close. We have an organic farmshop 3 minutes walk away, with a village shop selling a wide range of items 5 minutes by car. Dover Castle is 20 minutes away. Leeds Castle about 45 minutes, and Sissinghurst and Scotney Castle about an hour away.
We have a wide range of good pubs within 10 minutes drive, serving very good food. We are well served with Sandwich being 5 minutes away in the car, which has banks, supermarkets, and a good supply of restaurants. Canterbury obviously has a much wider choice.
