Dolphin Cottage is a Seaside Cottage Almost Sitting On The Beach at Whitehills.

Dolphin cottage is a historic fisherman's cottage almost sitting on the beach in the pretty seaside village of Whitehills. It is aptly named because passing dolphins can sometimes be seen from the windows. The cottage has 3 double bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 6 or 8 if the sofa bed is used in the lounge. The cottage benefits from two lounges one of which is cosy with a solid fuel stove and the other has breath taking views of the sea. Both lounges have large televisions so no problems with programme choice or with gaming and television viewing or indeed with peaceful dolphin watching! The kitchen is a mix of beautiful antique pieces and bespoke free standing units. The table can comfortably seat 8 people. There is a large belfast sink but also a dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is a pretty fridge, a separate freezer, a microwave and a range style electric cooker. The kitchen has the original Victorian fireplace with a solid fuel stove. Also on the ground floor is the twin bedroom with matching single beds which can on request be converted to a large super king bed. Upstairs there are 2 double bedrooms. The first has a king size bed and cottage style roof windows. The master bedroom also has a king size bed. There are twin aspect windows with beautiful uninterrupted views up and down the coast. The master bedroom also benefits from an en suite shower room with a further walk in shower and wc and sink. Completing this floor is a modern bathroom with a slipper bath which echoes the cottage's Victorian heritage and a large walk in shower, wc and sink. Most of the rooms have sea views. Outside there is a patio with beautiful uninterrupted views out to sea.

O miles! The cottage almost sits on the beach!


Aberdeen is the nearest city and is only 45 miles south. The city has an international airport, railway and bus stations providing onward travel links throughout the UK and beyond. The highland capital of Inverness is the next nearest city and like Aberdeen has an airport and good train links. It is advisable to have use of a car to fully appreciate what the area has to offer. However the village does have a local bus service to Banff (4 miles).


To the west is Portsoy which boasts the first harbour to be established on the Moray Firth coast in the 17th century. There are several other coastal villages which are worth a visit. The nearest towns of Banff and Macduff (4 miles) offer more choice of shops, restaurants and leisure activities. The Marine Aquarium in Macduff is well worth a visit as is Duff House Art Gallery and the Scottish Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh (23 miles). You could also discover the Whisky or Castle Trail.

Further Details:

Within the village all the basic services are provided. There are a couple of grocery shops, a post office, butchers, bakery and of course a good local pub which serves food. The nearby towns of Banff and Macduff will offer a wider range of shops and services.

  • Notes on accommodation: The washing machine is a Washer/Dryer. In addition to the fridge there is a freezer. The heating is electric heating complemented by 2 solid fuel stoves. The cottage has modern insulation so is easily heated. There is no private parking but parking is very close by and free. A cot and high chair are available on request. Outside: There is a good sized patio with beautiful views out to sea. There is a pull out drying line and in side the cottage there are fold up garden chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The beds are made up with fresh white linen for your arrival and towels and tea towels are provided for use within the cottage only. The cottage will be cleaned before your arrival and weekly laundry is available thereafter.
