Great apartment, handy location, obliging owner.

I spent 5 nights here with my elderly father during the European Football Finals in 2016 - come on Northern Ireland! :-). The apartment itself was spotless and spacious with a large balcony and all mod cons. We arrived late at night, tired and slightly disoriented to be met by a very friendly, helpful agent: Nishi, who supplied us with details of the local shops, landmarks and public transport options etc. The apartment is located in a quiet, secure, gated community, right next to the town's traditional French shopping district containing lots of wonderful little charcuteries and cafes. The train station is about 5 minutes brisk walk away. My father (who travels at a more leisurely pace these days) and I still found it very easy to explore many places along the coast from this location. My personal favourites were the beautiful city of Nice, the historic town of Antibes and Villefranche - a classic cote d' azur seaside village. The booking and payment process was made easy by a very personable owner Barbara, who responded to my numerous queries in a prompt and friendly manner. Before our departure my father stated to me that he had a wonderful holiday, the memories of which he shall always treasure, as indeed will I... Many thanks Barbara and Nishi.

Just fantastic

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful apartment in a great town. It is very spacious ,very well equipped with superb appliances and spotlessly clean. It is 10 minutes walk down the river to the beach. Cagnes Sur Mer is the best place we have ever stayed in on the Cote d'Azur. There are three parts to the town;the beach area , the town itself where the flat is and the old town on the hill which is ancient and authentic (castle ,restaurants, churches). The middle town, where the apartment is, has the virtue of being a genuine French town, not a tourist one. It is full of great bars, restaurants ,bakeries and a real Provencal market almost every day. The train station is a five minute walk from the flat and connects you with all parts of the Riviera. The apartment owners could not have been nicer to us in all ways . I can recommend this apartment with no reservations whatsoever. If you are going to the Riviera - having been there a lot - I would stay here.

Cros-de-Cagnes 0.5km, 10 minute walk. Free shuttle bus from town centre to beach runs in the summer.

Nice Airport 8 km.

Calais 1,214 Km.

Car hire plentiful at airport.

Car not essential - excellent and very cheap bus service, with stop directly outside Residence. Train station 10 min walk from Residence.

Nice Airport - 15 mins bus ride (1,50€).

Central Nice 9 km

Antibes 11 km

Cannes 21 km

Monte Carlo 37 km

Further Details:

There are excellent local shops and restaurants within a 5 minute walk - including bakery, pharmacist and large supermarket.

To the west along the coast explore Antibes (with its picturesque old town and harbour of millionaires' yachts), Cannes (with its Palais des Festivals, pavement of stars' hand prints and palatial hotels) and St Raphael (where the cliffs turn to a magnificent red).

Inland, you are a short distance from both Vence and St-Paul-de-Vence (as classic perched medieval village built on a rocky outcrop behind the coast). Also worth visiting is Grasse (the home of the perfume trade).

In winter, skiing is good at Valberg - less than an hour's drive up into the mountains behind Nice

The old town - Haut-de-Cagnes is a delight. It is a maze of small, steep, pebble paved streets, vaulted passageways, steps lined with pots of exotic flowers and sudden views across to the sea. There are artists' studios and quaint houses and the town is crowned by the Chateau Grimaldi. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Protection contains some beautiful frescoes dating back to the 1500s and gives a wide view south over Cagnes-sur-mer and the Mediterranean.

Renoir spent the last 12 years of his live in Cagnes and his house at Les Collettes, surrounded by olive and citrus trees is a great place to visit. Inside is the Musee Renoir including his 2 studios and 10 original paintings.

The Cros-de-Cagnes is a mixture of the old and new, side by side. The old fishing port still operates small boats out from opposite the fishermen's church. Meanwhile water sports can be all year round including windsurfing, water skiing, diving, and sailing. There are many beach side restaurants.

Cagnes is renowned for its flower production and has an annual Flower-Expo in April. There is also medieval jousting, a festival of the sea, a chestnut festival, a country fair, a programme of theatrical events and concerts.
