Enjoy time with family or friends in this newly renovated, spacious Edwardian villa, light and airy, with high ceilings and period features. It sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms.

Enjoy a game of pool or table tennis or play the piano in the games room.

Relax in the lounge, watching Freeview TV, DVDs, playing on the PS 3 console or listening to CDs.

The kitchen is well-equipped and open-plan, with space for all to socialise and dine and lovely views onto the garden.

Book shelves are well stocked and there are lots of board games, jigsaws and kid's toys throughout the house. Children can enjoy the jacuzzi bath with toys provided.

There is plenty of space for everyone to get away, with large, comfortable bedrooms, a sun-trap patio in the garden and a first floor balcony overlooking the hills. A real home from home. The house has high speed wifi throughout.

All bedding and indoor towels are provided, including tea-towels, please bring your own beach towels. Cot and high chair are provided but no cot bedding.

There are great views, looking across Shanklin town centre to the hills beyond. Immediate pedestrian access to the coastal path with panoramic sea views. Under 10 mins walk to Shanklin's huge bay of sandy beaches, pubs and cafes.

The seafront has three crazy golf courses, an amusement arcade with indoor soft play, and an outdoor amusement park with mini roller-coaster, zorbing and boating.

There are attractive, thatched pubs in the Old Village, with neighbouring Rylstone Gardens attractively perched on the cliff with bandstand, crazy golf and space to sit and picnic.

For those interested in water-sports, there is a specialist centre at Lake beach, which is situated between Shanklin and Sandown and is an easy, 15 minute walk from the house.

For keen walkers, you can access the beautiful St Boniface Down, overlooked from the house, from the Old Village, and walk over National Trust land to Ventnor, perhaps returning to Shanklin via Bonchurch and the enchanting, wooded, landslip. Other interesting walks are to Wroxall along the disused railway path, or through Sandown and Yaverland to climb to the top of Culver Cliff.

The bus station and train station, shops, supermarkets and banks are all within very easy walking distance. There is a convenient Co-op store, open long hours daily, a couple of minutes' walk from the house.

About Caroline Buxton

My brother and I were brought up in this beautiful home on the Isle of Wight and our families have come to love it just as much as we do. We have renovated it to bring it up to date but still retain its original character.

Why Caroline Buxton chose Shanklin

My parents grew up in London, but left city life behind to move to this property in 1972. They were attracted by the beautiful sea views from the end of the road and by the house’s proximity to beach, shops and public transport links to the mainland. They also enjoyed its easy walking access to coast, woodland and hills. I spent an incredibly happy childhood here and, when I am away from the Island, still hanker after the sea, fresh air, tranquillity and the sense of space.

What makes this house unique

The house is a few minute's walk from Shanklin esplanade with its sandy beaches, cafes, restaurants and pubs. It has great views looking down over Shanklin town and across to the Downs. It has many beautiful Edwardian features but in a modern, comfortable setting. The cliff path at the end of the road allows very convenient access to Shanklin, Lake and Sandown.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely holiday home! We all had a great time! The house was perfect for us and was fab to have the toys here for the kids. We have had lovely weather and spent most of the time on the beach. We especially enjoyed going to ‘The Hideaway’ on the cliff path down to the beach for milkshakes and bedtime hot chocolates, watching the boats and warships practising. Definitely recommend the Hideaway.

This is what we liked doing:

Kids – Videos and the pirate fun fair on the beach. Rock shop and Sandown Pier. Table tennis and pool!

Adults – Playing in the waves, taking the bus to Godshill, doing the quiz at Godshill, table tennis and playing pool.

A lovely house with loads of character, well suited to our family get together requirement. Adequately furnished and a lovely games room. An amazing choice of reading material in the lounge together with tv and quality sound system. It seemed a pity to go out!

We had a lovely family time in the property and Shanklin/Sandown.

Boniface Lodge was marvellous. Spacious, warm and characterful. A real family home. The owner, Caroline, was easy to communicate with, friendly and attentive despite being on holiday herself. The facilities were excellent and the whole family enjoyed the games room with its pool and table tennis table. This became our dining room too for our special meal - our family had hired a chef and waitress for the Saturday night. Kevin Hendy produced a wonderful meal aided by Chloe. He said that it was rare to have such good, clean equipment to work with.

Our grandchildren were over the moon to be able to use the games console and they became “experts” on the piano in just a few days!

Perfect property close to the sea

Wonderful, warm, luxurious stay

We loved our stay! Really quick to get to the beach and we had surprisingly unseasonal sun to enjoy too, so thank you for the weather as well as the location. Although there was a biting cold wind outside, with the clear skies, inside the house was incredibly warm and cozy. It is very spacious, even though we were a party of 6 adults it didn’t ever feel crowded. It was also really clean throughout. Highly recommend this to anyone thinking of staying in this area. Looking forward to booking it again.

Fantastic cottage

We loved our stay here. It has all the facilities you probably need. Pool table, table tennis and Piano was real good time pass. Loved it no issues at all, highly recommended.

Very close by foot to Shanklin and Lake beaches. Easy driving distance to Sandown, Ventnor, Bembridge and Godshill.


The car-ferry terminals at Fishbourne, East Cowes and Yarmouth and the passenger ferries at Ryde and Cowes vary from around a 25 to 40 minute drive from the house. The passenger catamaran between Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier Head links with a rail service directly to Shanklin.


Shanklin town and beach are on your doorstep. It's a 15 minute drive to Sandown in one direction and Ventnor in the other. It's an easy drive to picturesque Godshill or Bembridge. It's a 10 minute drive to Morrisons supermarket and petrol station in Lake.
